How to trouble shoot and replace a faulty an electric fuel pump in 1998 Lincoln Town Car. The procedure would be very similar to most modern “ in tank” fuel pumps.
I have watched many videos for replacing the fuel pump and this is by far the best because of the step-by-step and detailed explanation. Thanks for the video.
I honestly don’t recall, I believe I did it over a couple days, with the video as a guide I expect it could be done comfortably in a weekend. That’s without cutting corners or rushing it. I alway plan ahead ( if possible) gather my supplies and even my plan tools such as “jack to remove the fuel tank” ahead of time . A mental dry run. Nothing ever goes according to plan but it helps when things need extra attention. I work alone and learned to utilize things such as cargo straps or even a quilt as helpers for extra hands or a sled for moving heavy objects such as transmissions or weighted fuel tanks . I really appreciate subscribers! And there feed back. Your questions are always welcome.
I have a pesky ground that every three years or so, it gets corroded and faulty. After cleaning and re-attaching, should I spray the screw and ground with paint and and primer?
Pump and Filter I used was Bosch , and the hardware was purchased on EBAY from a Ford dealer , I have one nut plate. kingranch@currently.com Send me a message and I’ll share the package information part # and source.
You don't have to remove the gas tank to replace the fuel pump?Unless the gas is contaminated? All you do is disconnect the fuel lines and unplug the plug on the passenger side then drop the exhaust down and hang it to the side unbolt the screws to the fuel pump and it will slide out with no problem?I been working on my Town car for 13 years?
@@ceciljones1248 there are two other videos showing the engine removal and long block rebuild, and two more coming. That’s why it sat , i didn’t have the time to work on the engine very often.
My Lincoln will start up and run idle well ... but once I hit the gas pedal it act like it's wants to run out of gas any idea what's going on is it a fuel pump ? 😭
Start by testing the easiest parts first, based on your tools and experience that could be up front ( engine bay) or at the electrical connector of the pump. If you find which two wires power the pump, you could connect power directly to the power and listen to it. You could check to see if your fuel filter for a plugged . Etc
Every shop is different, professional shops have a much higher hourly rate to pay for the overhead , nice pretty building and all the property taxes etc. Small shops charge much less . You can call around ask they can give you estimate. Are you certain it’s the fuel pump, not a relay ? You can barrow the equipment from major auto parts and test it. It’s not a difficult job I would recommend doing it on a weekend or long weekend would be better to help reduce the rush. Prep it on Friday evening and begin early on Saturday and finalize everything on Sunday by midday
There is an adhered foam rubber seal on the fuel sending unit that is “not removable” yes it was reused as per design. It is sold as a unit with the sending unit - in other words if it’s leaking the sending unit must be replaced. Unless an after market manufacturer began selling it.
