Engine Knocking Sound Jeep Cherokee Xj The 4.0 making Bad Noises 

Dude i jus bought a wj and thought it started knocking on the way home with it. Statted her up and really listened and sounded like it was coming from the belt area. Turned her off and the fan has some play in it for sure. Thank you!

Amazing. My 2000 is making that sound!! I knew it couldn't be the transmission but I wish you put the camera up so I could have seen how you replaced it because I wanna do it myself and not get robbed by these mechanics out here in NY… Also it makes a chirping sound down there and I believe its one of the pulleys or it could all just be that damn fan!

My mechanic said something about needing to replace camshaft and redo piston rings because I stated there was a rather subtle knocking/click/ticking. He mentioned something with the crank as well... Does this sound familiar to anyone? is it Catastrophic? why did he give such a long list of completely unrelated components? All adding into it?? Please and thanks?!!! Another note: accompanied by an occasional violent shaking at start up that goes away w throttle.

Possible to clean the old one instead of replacing?

To me that sounds like your catalytic converters it sounds like the honeycomb broke up and your Carolina converters and they're rattling it sounds just like a rod knock

Did you have oil pressure problems as well? Mine is knocking but it only does it when the oil pressure drops.

In my xj 2000 I have knocking sound on cold start after 10 mints it reduce and after 20 mints it's almost finish could u guide me what to do

I just started to have a similar sound for like 3 days would have like a belt squeal then today out of no where knocking sound one min sounds like it's in the manifold then next min sounds like it's coming from power steering pump or pulley

Hey man my 2001 Cherokee takes a couple seconds to build oil pressure when starting. No knocks or noises though. Is this normal ?

That belt doesnt look like its the correct routing. Maybe why you keep having to replace that part.

I have owned a 97 ZJ grand Cherokee and it's got a little bit over 160,000 miles now I've had it for almost 2 years but recently it's been making a screeching sound /noise from what sounds like is near the top end of the engine too me , it's mostly noticed at lower RPMs like if idling and turn steering wheel a bit or when 1st throttling from stop to take off from stop light , it's also as if it is hard to start at times or runs a bit rough or maybe even idles around 5-600 RPMs when at stop light but usually idled about 1100RPMs , but no check engine or anything , HOWEVER I did notice that the oil pressure SLOWLY raises at start up to about 30 ish PSI and used to run steady around 40 PSI but I haven't gotten a chance to tear anything apart or inspect the internals but was assuming maybe a connecting rod bearing or something ? Any opinions would help , thanks
