cool...would have never thought of smoke...carb spray mehhh...I'm a little scared, have heard too many horror stories about crap going wrong...you can add soapy water and spray it on your general leaking area...thank you for posting this Klowny...very helpful

Try doing a compression test..that would rule out a few things..ive seen freshly rebuilt engines with alot of issues..

I was thinking more of a loss of compression due to a timing chain slip or something...ok at this point i would need to know a few things about the motor...is it a high perf build? Were the spring pressures correct for the valves? Try putting a dial indicator on the spring retainers to see if ur lobes arent wiped out...u also might want to get someone else to look it over too

My understanding was that manifold vacuum should be highest at idle. But on my vehicle, at 650 rpm it measures -17 in Hg, and at steady 2000 rpm it measures -19 in Hg. Normal response to snap throttle. IAC recently cleaned. No leaks I can find, and definitely no leak to the crankcase. Are those numbers close enough to be considered normal?

Thanks for the video lots of methods here to use I have a rebuilt engine 390 FE from a 69 Ford I have a slight missfire at idle you can feel it and see the motor shake slightly it's only at idle if you drive the truck it runs good no stumbles or back fires mixture is right , could a worn dist gear cause this maybe too much play left and right in the rotor ? I thought maybe the rings have not fully seated and there is some oil going past the rings, I checked with a timing light all cylinders are firing although the number 5 had a erratic spark I'm using Taylor street thunder wires and a pertronix 2 module I'm just looking for possibilities to check it's driving me nuts it ran good for a day or two after breaking in the cam then it started missfiring . I have about 200 miles or less on the motor so far it's the original autolite dist

Did u check the computer for any codes? It may be a sensor or electrical issue..ex: iac,tps,maf ..not to sure about ur exact setup but look there first

im trying to fix an ignition rattle on my gdi engine nissan hr15. I changed the fuel pump amd fuel filter and also changed the injectors and injector rail now im gonna check for vaccume leaks. the engine sounds weird when pulling of and thats where i hear the ignition ping like a the glass ball in a paint can. when i hear it if i accelerate the engine sounds fine and the rattle stops if i jus back off the x pedal a little it rattles like crazy. going crazy trying to fix it

Klowny1969, lemme ask you about having vacuum pulling from the passenger side breather hose from the valve cover to air cleaner. When I have the air cleaner off and the pcv hooked up on the drivers side valve cover, I have noticeable vacuum being pulled in from the breather hose. I’ve been dealing with a stumble lately and suspect a vacuum leak. Obviously if it’s pulling from the valve cover then it would be leaking from the lifter valley side. I’m perplexed though since I only get the suction from that breather hose/tube when the pcv is hooked up on the other valve cover. You think this is normal? I am thinking no matter if the pcv is hooked up or not that I should have pressure/ventilation exiting that breather tube. Thanks man

I did a comp test, and the rings are fine.

i got a holley 4160 i had to replace all the gaskets seals etc because they dried up from lack of use i took the carburettor off and the bit on the base plate with the pcv pipe broke off in my hands must of had a hair line crack i replaced the gaskets and blocked off the broken bit with feul resistant sealant and put the peice back and stuck it all back with the sealant but ever since the engine is running really bad its off song and getting very hot , and a strong hi pitched whistling sound is coming from down in the carburettor the base plate looks well sealed but im guna have to tey better repair that broken bit of the base plate i have jb weld can i repair it with out finding a good base plate???

my 350 only has 26k miles since the rebuild. it does run rich at idle idk if that effects vacuum though.

I tried everything you suggested but i still cant find any leak. all the while i still pull a low 15 of vacuum

Thanks for the video my check engine came on and got it. checked they said it could be a vacuum leak but don't know where to check when I'm driving the car shakes and takes effort to go full sperm on that highway like rough idle

Get a small propane take for plumbing and put 2ft long hose on end of nosel and start car and turn propane on low and run hose around motor till motor runs better.......😎

Sounds fn the ballpark for a regular car..and unless u notice any issues at idle or any lean or rich conditions then u should be ok

its a simple 300Hp 350 mild cam headers nothing fancy. ill buy a cheap dial indicator at harbor freight.

It can be a different reason why ur pulling low vacuum..are u sure u have no obstructions anywhere? Maybe wiped ur camshaft out? Valve timing is waay off..stretched chain..worn piston rings...if urcertain u have no vac leaks..u should start looking elsewhere

Never spray starting fluid any where near the distributor or any flammable liquid while a car is running the can could explode I seen someone do this not a good idea the can of either or starting spray misted over the distributor cap it blew up in his hand caught his hair on fire,he was down on the ground rolling all around trying to put himself out.
