David, The Impreza is certainly bigger inside than a Corolla hatch. In its defense, in some markets the Corolla is available with a 50 mpg Hybrid AWD powertrain. Of course, no Impreza comment is complete without a reference to the Levorg wagon that Subaru refuses to sell here. 🤩

I would give my first born for a Levorg wagon. I thought the WRX wagon was so cool when I was younger.

Best to keep comments focused what we have here in the US market. If Toyota had any intention of bringing their gems to our shores, they would have done so five years ago.

As a 6.5 man I confirm. Impreza is bigger inside than Corolla. Toyota makes cars for average height only

Hi David, I own a 2018 Crosstrek Limited. Aside from the 5 recalls which occurred early in my ownership, the car has been extremely reliable and superb fit and finish.

David, thank you very much for this thorough review of the Subaru Impreza RS. Looking forward to a test drive soon.

Great video! The biggest advantage the Impreza has, in my opinion, is the symmetrical all wheel drive. Year round, it gave me confidence in the Impreza I drove for six years. If you don’t go crazy with options it’s a steal.

Great short video. Well said. The GR Corolla is as stated, a totally different animal. So as far as the comparable SR or XSE hatchback, it does not compare to the Impreza RS or Civic Hatchback. The Impreza RS CRT holds the revs before the simulated shifting, so may seem slow on acceleration if not in WOT to get that speed. It should be offered with a manual transmission to make this an even greater package. I believe it has the same 180 horsepower as the Civic Sport Touring Hatchback at the same price, albeit, the Civic engine is a 1.5L turbo. The less expensive Sport Hatchback has the 158 horsepower N,/A 2.0L engine. Both of those Civic Hatchback trims are available with a 6 Speed manual. I was looking at getting a new Honda Civic Sport, or Sport Touring Hatchback, but was wowed when this Impreza RS came out. I wanted a dark blue or bright blue one with the option package, that would be the same price as the Civic Sport Touring Hatchback. The consideration against getting it, no matter how much I liked it was the AWD system, added potential maintenance and repairs down the road and expense of tire replacement of all four tires instead of just one. I live in Honolulu, HI, so I don't need the AWDAnd secondly, some reports of glitches on the infotainment displays of previous models. So I was going to get the Civic Sport or Sport Touring Hatchback, until the new HR-V Sport came out, which is better get and more practical for what I want and need to have slightly better utility to carry talker cargo than the Civic Hatchback. But if I got a second car, I would still want it, especially the Sport Touring Hatchback, that has the different engine, Bose Stereo, and more creature comforts.

Steering feel!! Fabulous Dual Pinion does wonders!! Love the feel. I hate the 3 cameras taking up so much forward visibility, feels like a sun visor constantly down right in the centre!!

I think Honda nailed it with the interior sytling. I would still get the Impreza between the two because of AWD, cargo room, and price. Plus from what I understand at most Subaru dealers you can special order what you want with no unwanted dealer add-ons at MSRP, not sure if that's the case with Honda, or Toyota for that matter.

Not all Subaru dealers (at least in Canada) - plus dealers will be dealers...they're still underhanded and sneaky! I ordered a Crosstrek 7months ago (was told 6-8months wait) - They've offered me 2 CTs cancelled by the owner, that came in but stated that those cars had $2400 installed extras (ceramic, underbody and seat protection..the usual overpriced stuff) I'd have to pay for. I was in the dealership for the first and I overheard a salesman saying they are sending the cancelled CT for ceramic the next day. Then the saleslady I was dealing with came over and I asked if the ceramic and other stuff was already installed, and she said yes. - They are claiming the customer ordered that stuff but THEY are adding it because they know demand is high - Oh what a world we'd live in if people didn't absolutely HATE going into dealerships

I have seen a few of your videos where you measure panel gap. Is there a car you have measured that was considered "bad?" The reviews I have seen, they have been good. I never thought much to consider measuring the gaps between door and fender. Curious what cars you think fail this test.

It did seem odd that the manual was fully discontinued so suddenly, especially after the sti was discontinued and the top trim WRX was CVT only. Its not like they had a hybrid/performance version lined up like Toyota did when they discontinued the manual in the Corolla hatch xse Has there been any word on a reintroduction of the manual transmission, maybe they're reworking theirs for it's likely final iteration? Was theirs still a 5 speed, or am i misremembering that?
@thatoneotherotherguy
@thatoneotherotherguy 10 месяцев назад
For the Impreza (non-WRX), at least in the US, the available manual was, curiously, a 5-speed unit straight through 2023. Their other remaining manuals, those in the Crosstrek (now gone), BRZ, and WRX, were 6-speeds. The 2023 Impreza might have been the last 5-speed manual available in the US.
@markcoopers1930

@@thatoneotherotherguy I mean the Tacoma had a 5 speed forever as well, but it's strange to think that was even possible with fuel economy regs.

Is it better than a Mazda 3? Corolla and Civic hatchbacks don't offer AWD so they aren't viable alternatives to those of us living in Canada.

Hi David, is it true that in Canada our Subaru Crosstreks are still from Japan except for Crosstrek Wilderness trim? But in USA, all Crosstrek models are made in Indiana now? Sorry if I’m off topic 😆

When I hear cvt, imho, it’s a cost saving no focus on longevity and reliability. That’s a deal breaker for me, no matter what or how good the rest of the car is. CVT is walk away thanks. Like MB G L A has a Renault cvt and well, that’s a real doozy, and the costs are still high. Been towed too many times. Wish they’d outlaw the cvt.

You are basically wanting the Subaru WRX. The 2.4 Turbo makes it fun. The trouble with the Impreza RS is that the Crosstrek Wilderness is not much more.

Hi David, I owned a 2010 Subaru Forester for 10 years and I will tell you it was one of three vehicles I had and it had eight recalls on top of that. It was very unreliable and I was very disappointed. I went all the way almost to the top of Subaru to complain because the vehicle was not getting properly fixed , for example the airbag was a nightmare the brake lines that were corroded they only wanted to put corrosion gel on them. Instead of replacing them I can go on, and on it was a nightmare. I would never own a Subaru again, but I guess they have improved certain areas with certain vehicles but overall once I have a bad experience, I never go back, but I appreciate the video and this particular Subaru looks pretty nice I just wouldn’t take a chance on purchasing one in my opinion great video is always David your educating the world in a classy way.🇯🇵❤️🤍🇨🇦🇺🇸🌎

Unfortunately Subaru during those days wasn't the best. However, Subaru now has greatly improved (which is why Toyota has 20% ownership now) and is very well-made and reliable rivaling all the top brands. Their safety system, all-symmetrical AWD, and drive quality are some of the best (especially their safety system as they've won many awards for it).

I drove my 2011 Outback for 11 years with no significant problems. I had 120k on it and had to get rid of it due to family changes. It was a good care but I have heard a ton of stories like yours as well.

@@BID4882 What someone experienced is not translated to the Evaluation of a Brand. First, All Foresters Have been Manufactured from Japan. We drove and Knew Subaru since 1981-82... They were superb, there were some issues but for the Cost! We paid for a Subaru Legacy Late Model L 1992 shifted to Canada from Japan in January 1993... Here the Facts: The Original Timing-Belt was in the Subaru Legacy since 1992 until 2019; The Subaru Tech Lady who arranged for our/my car serviced was wowed and said = "The Timing-Belt was older than me (she... Born 1993); The Winter Rims (R15) and Bridgestone OEM by Subaru last until now... Changed 2 L-R CV-Axles /// Original Brake Pads and still have brand New Spare Signal/Cruise Column and the Bra that covered for the Front Bumper (brand New) as we only used the part one cover the Hood... Flushed/Changed Trans Fluid (Auto) in 2005; and about to have Flushed this year but sadly ─ the Car was stolen in May this year, 2023, in Daylight and Police have done nothing ... They are good for Nothing. I worked for Precision Drilling Services/ Dept Subsidiary Computalog where I used the Car and later with Survey Company went to the Filed that any Toyoda nor Honda Accord could have done so... I changed Coolant Fluids every Winter coming since 2002; The Total Cost of Repairs and/or Maintenance were under 3,000.00 CAD$ Dollar; I have changed Sparkplugs and Cords myself twice; and batteries 3 times = the Original Bat from Subaru last until 2008... Before that My friend and I share the Predecessor. Subaru Alcyone XT which was the Predecessor of The Subaru SVX: We loved it and never had a problem. I also owned a Toyoda Camry V6 LE and Honda Civic DX both 1993; Honda Made in Canada. I would personally take anytime a Subaru over the Toyoda and Honda. (Drove and Own Honda Accord/ Prelude 1987/1975) They are/were all Good Japanese Made, but I like the Cornering of the Subaru over any of the others; especially in Winter Driving Up North to High Level and Fort MacMurray; the Camry V6 Swing like a Drunk Driver... Personally Subaru Made Car for people can drive to the Oil Field and or to the Red Carpet Academy Oscar... That how I feel. We also own an Outback 2008 Indiana Manufactured had HG problem but since Manufactured reimbursement some toward the Repair we have had no other problems; changed Oil 4 times a year for the Legacy 1992 and 3 times for the Outback 2008; never paid for any dime for Dealers nor Mechanics Shops ... The Outback was bought Crossing Border to USA and at that time One Canadian Dullar was 1.08 US Dullar; so we gained big time! 😂😂😆😆 Cheers,
