FYI, not only the button adjusts but you can can also adjust the leather on the sides with the provided tool so you are less reliant upon leather stretching and you don't have to worry as much if you take out a card or two
awsome review on the contour the leather also adjusts in and out on all sides for fit own one of these and yes it scratches your top card all you do is put that plastic card that comes with it in front good review
Never dawned on me about the leather adjustment, thank you. I did try it, but also wonder if it's valuable to do if the leather stretches, as a means to tighten it up again? I do wish the card scratching wasn't such a problem as it defeats the purpose of the main wallet window for an ID or access card, but overall really like this wallet.
I did a small mod on my tray vax contour where I hot glued around the hex tool along with some keys on the tray vax card that came with the wallet, and have them conveniently hidden in the back of the wallet (last card) so that the tool is always with me if I need to adjust. It would actually be nice if trayvax could make a way so you could carry the tool with you if need be. I’ve had mine for two years now and it’s been a great EDC wallet! and the patina is beautiful!
@@walletopia I usually like designer wallets, and they can be very pricey and tend to be very delicate. This wallet is a great value for the materials used in it and it can take a beating! What makes me love it, is that it forces me not to pile a bunch of junk in my wallet, and yet , it holds all of my cards (8), my cash , a beard comb and a multitool, all while looking beautiful! The use of leather is so much better than most minimal wallets, because they use elastic materials that wear pretty quickly.
Great wallet - have one myself. The only flaw with it is that when you open the clasp to remove a card and then you hold the wallet upside down (so opening faces the floor), and shake it, all the cards will fall out. I have found that when you remove a card to use it, it’s necessary to hold the rest of the cards inside the wallet, so they don’t drop out.....
Hey I watched your video on the secrid wallet and you'd spoken about the fake/copy wallets which are like $15. Well, my cousin visited India recently and bought a hide and skin brand wallet which is very similar to the secrid slim wallet and it has friction causing rubber inside it too. It was like $8. My mind is blown 🙃
LOADS of knockoffs out there. There are subtle quality and longevity related things between better brands like Secrid and Ekster and the knockoffs. Maybe some of those knockoffs will evolve into a quality competitor. It all started with Secrid and then Ekster thoughtfully entered the market, so we'll see if the market continues to expand.
@@walletopia Exactly! This growth in cheaper yet relatively high quality wallets is a boon for the market. Can't wait to see how a "OnePlus" of wallets will fare ...
Was the gold one you bought actually stainless steel? The yellow metal they sell now is a sold brass alloy. Wondering if they made a change at some point?
I bought the Trayvax Element last year. Carried it only a few times bc I couldn’t get past the ugly metal part at the top of it. Not sure I believe all the reviews out there(other than yours), considering the company gives you $100 credit for reviewing and posting it online.
We have the Element up for review soon. Like you, I already have a hangup about the metal part at the top. It just seems like it would get in the way, especially in the pocket. That pay to play environment is why we only review what we buy. It's an investment for us, but it ensures we can provide a good video product to you and others seeking a truly unbiased review. Thanks Matthew.
I want to buy this wallet but can convince myself to do it. I like to carry anywhere between 3to 10 bills on me. I wonder how much adjusting I have to do and how well will it secure the money in it. Will it fall out? That is my problem.
I put 10 bills (folded twice) with 6 cards and it wasn't adjusted all the way out, plenty of room. If you'd like to see pictures, shoot me an email at questions@walletopia.info
ok np I saw you got the black it's hard to see the adjust lines maybe you can do the carl Fredrick slim wallet very nice wallet for the price handmade from UK very nice if you like learher
Great wallet recommendation! We have their Hatton wallet on our publishing schedule. I love their leather quality, design and construction choices, excellent products!
I´m struggling with this wallet (if i´m gonna buy it or not). I´ve used two Secrid wallets for years now, one of them is a double. This wallet looks way nicer, but how is it to use on a day-by-day basis. And how slim is it with 5 cards and no bills. Does it look akward with the leather at its minimum adjustment?
I just tested it with 5 cards and adjusted the pin appropriately, the cards move around a SMALL bit, but it's not bad. The thickness of the leather ends up being about the same as the 5 cards you have in the wallet. With 5 cards, tightened up it's .7" thick.
I'm trying to convince myself to buy it too. But my issue with it is, I like to carry bills with me anywhere between 3 to 10 Bill's. I wonder how much adjusting I have to do and if the bills will fall out .
Yes, thanks Chase, but that knowledge came after this review. I have a "2nd LOOK" review planned for this wallet due to so many things I either left out or got wrong.
Hey Mark, can you refresh my memory on how come up with the total score. Is there a greater weight applied to any category? I just noticed on this wallet, if you add up the 5 scores you get 18, which is 3.6/5 or 36/50, but you come up with 38/50.
Yes, Quality is 30%, Price is 20%, Features 10%, Usability 25% and Perception 15%. What you’re seeing here is the original review video where it was a 36, but I revised it up to 38 in the 2nd LOOK review.
They're a great company with EDC carry bags and such (their pricing for everything is amazing), but haven't seen much traction from their wallets. Which one in particular caught your interest?
Interesting watch strap. I found myself trying to see what the writing on it might be. Silicone strap on some sort of diver's watch, right? Great reviews on the wallets! I'm glad I found your channel. 👍
walletopia thanks!! Didn’t know that. Although it’s hard to justify 139 for the Trayvax wallet. At least for me. I had a tough time to spend 200 on the Aviator wallet.
Thank goodness there’s no RFID in this wallet. There’s no concern with it being scanned as that’s impossible now with chip and pin cards. If your CC information will be compromised it will be from someone physically taking your information (think restaurant server), there is a skimmer set up on a device you insert your card into (think gas pump) or your number is bought on the dark web, not needing your physical card to steal it. RFID “protection” is a scam, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QL2HEgOFQxc.html
It would have to be a cast aluminum, which is not as durable. And since cast aluminum has a lot of silicon added to the alloy, it’s quite heavy. Aluminum would also oxidize. Stainless steel , brass and titanium currently in their lineup are perfect choices. The stow wallet is aluminum, but pvd coated. It’s meant to be flexible so aluminum works for them. This wallet is meant to be stiff and rigid. Hope that clarifies 👍
Can't answer yet Peter, I haven't pulled the Element out yet for review or comparison. That day will come :), but until then. All I know is the hanger metal on the Element is a distraction for me. I need to give it a chance and see how it works and performs.
Yes, it is, the correct way is with the thumb pushing down. It was scratching cards, but regardless, I explained what I did wrong in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9DIhLkS_xwA.html
Me too! To get there would be very hard for a wallet, or I have an off day somehow :) What usually kills it is the price, which makes sense. An awesome wallet with excellent materials, design, company support, etc. won't be cheap, so the price weight pulls it down. Honestly, I'm waiting for the first 48. We have a 44 coming out in the next week or so.
