The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) presents Engineering Plymouth. A film celebrating how civil engineers have helped to shape Plymouth over the last 500 years.
The film tells the story of Plymouth through its engineering milestones. From laying the foundations for a new town to the introduction of the Great Western Railway and the impressive Royal Albert Bridge. Through the Blitz bombs and on towards new horizons - robotics, artificial intelligence and the use of drone technology - we see how engineers are tackling problems and safeguarding the future for generations to come.
Narrated by Dawn French and featuring music by Seth Lakeman, the film brings to life more than 500 years of engravings and archive photography and features over 25 filming locations in Plymouth and surrounding areas. These images and footage were brought to life by filmmakers Wind & Foster.

This I have just seen in my school. A fantastic overview of the history and impact engineering has had on Plymouth and into Cornwall. I highly recommend it

Thanks to 21 animators, a visionary client and the most amazing media archivists we managed to write, film, produce and animate Engineering Plymouth. It only took a year! - Jevan Chowdhury, Director.

Fun fact: The Eddystone lighthouse that caught fire saw the lighthouse keeper accidentally swallow molten lead. He survived for a short period afterwards. I believe the piece of lead is in a museum somewhere.

Dawn French is very suited for this, she has always lived around Plymouth if not in it.

This film is a wonderful potted history of Civil Engineering in Plymouth highlighting the crucial roles Civil Engineers play in developing the places, we live, work and play in. It highlights the ingenious creativity central to good engineering. Civil Engineering needs to find the innovative engineering talent of the future to solve the problems of our time. If you think you handle a varied career, solving real problems, get inspired, get engaged and get involved!

Great film thank you But who is Stephen Michael Nolan ( little boy at end on ferry) Can’t be the Bucksfizz singer so was he involved in the making of the film ?

And yet we can’t get a decent, road, rail or air link into the city and seem content to strangle the city centre with poorly thought out new building placement and road design.

Yes I agree as an onlooker but try Bristol for size, and the so called Bristol Airport is not that far away.

A superb and informative film! However...Special thanks to Babcock? What for? Taking more money from the taxpayer they haven't earned...

I don't know that Plymouth particularly shines above other towns and cities in the UK but this an excellent video documentary and I can well believe it took a year to make. A great advertisement for the city.
