In the 1950s New Zealand's population grew rapidly and demand for electricity was increasing. The decision was made to start the Tongariro Power Scheme to meet this demand. The scheme created 3 power stations; Tokannu, Rangipo and Mangaio. Together they make up 3.5% of New Zealand's total annual electricity.

The scheme should never have been privatised and will need to be purchased back by the government with fair compensation paid to the current owners, so that an optimised and consolidated electricity generation, distribution system utilising 100% renewable power can be built for all of Aoteroa/New Zealand.

Overseas and private investors purchased the distribution rights for a good portion of nz's grid. If you want free power chuck in some solar panels

@@alanwalker7342 tax money our taxes from us working government owned facilities paid for by the people so the people can have free power water wifi instead of sending our money elsewhere and the workers paid by government from our taxes people have to stop with the greed if we all worked together we would all have free stuff instead of rich elites dictatorship and owning everything there should be no elites they are the problem
