The thing I noticed with young troy is that after you got the latch unlatched, he apologised and admitted he might of caused it. That is the most admirable trait you could ask for. Honesty even if it could result in being in trouble is a sign that young Troy is a stand up guy. Great to see and Im sure he will go a long way if he keeps that integrity through his career. Well done Troy.

You admit your mistakes and you get told to stay quiet because the "customer doesn't need to know" or your mistake is never forgotten and held above your head for years, prohibiting you from trying to improve because if you messed up say, installing an axle, so nobody will let you try that ever again, even if you messed up on your first try because you "don't know what you're doing". I bet you never spoke up again after being treated like that. It's just not smart as a boss to do that. Not only will your employees feel uneasy all the time, they won't be happy and unhappy workers will never look after your business or your customers like happy ones. And how you explained what you were doing with the bonnet catch ( English) for hood! And not to apologize for learning. Troy not sure of your age or work experience, but you could not have a better mentor than Ray. I really hope you have a great future with Ray. When spin-on oil filters came out in the mid 60's to replace canister filters, they were the greatest things. WHY did they go back to canisters? And WHY do they all take different tools to take off? Car makers can take their late model cars and cram them you know where.
@jw-hy5nq
@jw-hy5nq Год назад
Because of the recycling psychos. spin on oil filters are hard to fully drain and they end up in landfills. the cannister types make it less likely to pollute.
@TheOnespeedbiker
@TheOnespeedbiker Год назад
The EPA made demands that car manufacturers reduced the amount of maintenance and the materials that resulted from maintenance such as spin- on filters and fluids. This resulted in unrealistic maintenance intervals and transmissions\ power trains designed not to be serviced and the end of spin on oil filters. The end result was shortening the life expectancy of cars and expensive power train repairs (even though modern vehicles in general are capable of the same or better longevity than the same type vehicles manufactured decades ago) the maintenance schedules now define the life of a car as 10 years\ 120,000 miles even though with accelerated maintenance they will likely last twice that long). Current engines get better gas mileage and have more power than previous designs, but are not as robust and so require more maintenance (they are especially sensitive to the need for frequent oil changes); some of which has been made very difficult due to poorly thought out government regulations to reduce byproducts of vehicle maintenance which result in shortening the life of vehicles creating more junked cars and demand for replacements which eat up even a greater amount of natural resources. IOW (In Other Words) only the government can mess things up this bad.
@hotpuppy1
@hotpuppy1 Год назад
@@jw-hy5nq That is crap. All filters end up in the landfill anyway. As for not being drained, most all oil change shops I've ever seen have a dozen filters sitting in the drain. It's not like they go to the trash can after each car. There are still a lot of cars that use spin-on filters. There is still no call for having to use many different tools to remove depending on the make. I hate that there are so many sizes of spin-on filters these days too. Used to be just one diameter. Then they came out with the small size. Now there are half a dozen. I have three cups in my box now for the vehicles I have/had PLUS the steel strap in two sizes.
@mikebrookerd5833
@mikebrookerd5833 Год назад
I think the reason for special tools for many maintenance items is to keep owners from doing the work themselves. Along with cannister filters, no dip stick for transmissions, having to remove major items (like intake manifolds) to get to coil packs and spark plugs, and the list goes on. Manufacturers want us to HAVE to take our vehicles to the dealership for maintenance, or shops like Ray's. BTW I would love to take my vehicles to Ray. But, a 6 hour drive one way is not as convenient as it sounds. 😊
@shannonharris
@shannonharris Год назад
@@jw-hy5nq to get every single possible drop of oil out of the old filter is admirable, but the filter is still going to the landfill ultimately, with even a trace of oil left the recyclers are going to toss it in said landfill... Its just like recycling your pizza box, if it has ANY GREASE spots on it, it goes in the landfill... I would tear off the top of the box, greasy end goes in trash, other end goes in recycling... I worked in many shops in my youth and only 1 of them had this oil filter crushing machine, which would compact it and get out every drip of oil possible, but its still going in the trash. After watching Penn and Tellers: Bullshit, it has me wondering if recycling is worth it at all?

Hey Dude, I know you are prolly holding the phone/camera with you left hand, butttttt, it is always better to support the upper end of a long extension with your free hand than let it be supported by the plastic parts of the engine. (I know kinda picky, but I am a Porsche guy). Anyway, good for you to get some gravy work, if you like, you can get a stamp made with your shops name, etc, to be able to stamp the owners service record book, the folks who really take care of their cars like that kind of care. Also you can look up the services in all data, or online so if a car comes in with x mileage you can sell them the service that corresponds, and also whatever work they brought the vehicle in with. Just make sure they understand you are doing the "factory" recommended service and not a "Jiffy Lube" oil change. Anyway helpful tips from the Vault Blue Mule NC

That is a very clean and seemingly great condition malibu and enjoyed seeing the fluid exchange and I hope the owner enjoys many miles of trouble free driving now. Keep Safe Keep Strong 🦘🦘🦘🦘💖💖

You reminded me of my grandfather when you talked to Troy. Grandpa always told me that there were two types of mistakes If you learned and didn't repeat it, it was a good mistake otherwise it was a bad one. Well spoken Ray!

You do have a coolant addition check instrument. You take a voltmeter and you put a probe into the coolant and you put the other one on the ground of the vehicle. If you get up to about 3/10 of a v, it's time to change the fluid. When the fluid becomes acidic it also produces a voltage which is what causes damage to the metal parts inside of the engine especially the head gasket. That's what's called galvanic action and it comes from the differential Metals in the cooling system.

I am a Democrat, but I 100% agree with his policy of keeping sex ideology out of public schools with young children, Adult oriented sexual material has no bussines in pre adult settings. Yes sex education at later teen ages but only on the subject of reproduction and procreation. As for gay and transgender ideology it dosnt belong in any schools at all. In fact it acts of a sexual predatory even bringing up that subject to young children. No sex subject should not be in schools at all to younger children. Yes people have a choice of how to live But young minds are impressionable If you do not feed the idea they won't learn it. Anything past no talking about it is suspicious in nature. I would hate to bring kids up in this day and age we do not need this or any form of it in schools. Children will come ask when they are ready to talk about it and that child's parents should be who they ask. Not somone in power like a teacher in school. This is tottaly wrong. When I grew up no one muttered a word about adult stuff to kids, and those that did didnt have good intentions in mind.

Same maintain stuff, those machines are great revenue generator! The only thing I have to say is when you are shooting that brake clean around you are forcing the brake fluid to go on to the face of the alloy wheels which have either painted surfaces or at least clear coat which can be destroyed from said brake fluid.

Back in the 70s I had a 67 Mercury Comet with Hydraulic lifters. My Grandfather used the wrong oil in it and gummed up the lifters. I put a quart of kerosene in the crankcase ran the engine for 1/2 hour and then drained the oil and refilled with fresh oil and filter. Lifters we’re working great after that.

Interesting way to exchange brake fluid. I used to work at a Saturn car plant. The initial fill on the brake system used a suction on the entire system as the car moved down the production line. Once a certain vacuum amount had been reached, the system would be fully filled with fluid. No bleeding of the system was required.

ATF in the engine is a shade tree fix for lifter tap noise, the detergent cleans the bores and gives a minor recondition to the seals.

When I was turning wrench , MATCO tools had a funnel that attaches right to the oil fill cap location and kind of locks into it. I still have it and still use it. Depending on the size of the hole in the rocker cover, it will handle the flow almost as fast as you can pour it. Well worth the investment

His oversight when working on a vehicle could cause a catastrophic accident or damage. He appears to be a good guy, wanting to learn.
