One thing about Thomas that always stood out to me is that the characters have distinctive faces.

I didn't notice most of these when I was a kid, but I do remember seeing Henry with Gordon's face in Peter Sam and the Refreshment Lady. Some of these you notice when you are a kid, some you don't notice until adulthood, and some you don't notice until you watch this video. The one where Edward has the Scottish Twin's face was one I never noticed until now.

I thought Henry with Gordon’s face from “Peter Sam and the Refreshment Lady” was so cursed! I still can’t get that out of my head any time I watch that episode.

W Video and I get why this happened. It’s probably because the crew making the series were in a rush to make each episode so they must’ve confused the face masks on some of the characters.

Personally I think the one that Henry has Gordon’s face is funny as a kid cuz I remember watching it and I’m like “Henry? Why are you wearing Gordon’s face?” 😅

2:46 It’s actually from a dvd So for some reason some dvds edited the engines with swapped faces (Examples: Edward with Thomas’ face, James’ face on Thomas, etc)

As a Thomas the tank engine kid, as long as they were moving and working, I didn't care. It's a show for children and we wanted to see their expressions in the various situations they were in. Will always be the best show to me, bless your hard work and games, Thomas and Friends.

Nice collab! I wanted to mention that thomas was percys tired face isnt really a goof in a way. Thomas goes fishing is episode 12 and percy runs away is episode 17 (the first time percy being seen with his tired face.) The reason this isnt really a goof is percy probroaly because percy had no tired face so they used it as a thomas worried/tired face in thomas goes fishing but since percy had no tired face for percy runs away they instead of making another used the face on percy.

Thomas with Percy's tired face and even Percy wasn't introduced yet until "Trouble in the shed".

I also noticed Duke with Sir Handel (Falcon)'s face in You Can't Win, when Peter Sam (Stuart) was right in front of Duke.

Henry with Gordon’s face terrifies me. I can’t even interpret it as Henry anymore, it just looks like Gordon but green. I have no clue how that one got mixed up 😂 And I swear the Diesel/Cranky one was on purpose. I refuse to believe someone could genuinely mix those up

Where is the clip of Edward with James' smiling face? Is that a freeze-frame? A DVD cover? I don't recall seeing that in one single episode of the classic series. Only the one with James' sad face in his first episode whereas James wouldn't be introduced until five stories later. The same goes for when Percy wouldn't be introduced till after Thomas Goes Fishing when the latter is wearing his friend's face and in the opposite case which was at the beginning of Diesel Does It Again from Series 3, Thomas' tired face actually hadn't been seen or used since the episode "The Runaway" in Series 2 so I guess they recycled it on Percy but still got confused but it's rare they would use it for that last time. As for Donald or Douglas' face on Edward in "Saved from Scrap", Edward passes by so fast it's like a blink and you'll miss it moment but the twins wouldn't be introduced until 12 episodes after that one so it's weird that it would be used that early in the series but then again there was a deleted episode of "The Missing Coach" which got canceled during production so who knows? Maybe it was made before that other episode from Edward's book.

The only ones I spotted when I was a kid is Henry with Gordon’s face, Thomas with Percy’s face, and James with Edward’s face

I absolutely noticed Henry with Gordon’s face as a kid. I remember watching that episode as a kid and thinking Henry looked super weird in that one shot, but I think in the very next shot he has his correct face again, and I think one time I kept backing up the VHS tape over and over comparing the two shots trying to figure out why it looked so weird and couldn’t figure it out. Then one day like years later, I was watching that episode again and I was like “OH MY GOD, THEY PUT GORDON’S FACE ON HENRY!” and I was so excited that I had finally figured it out.

throughout the narrow gauge centered episodes in the hit era there are more than enough instances of skarloey and rheneas using each others faces, some hiccups looking more obvious than others. Not to mention how there's a scene in thomas and the big bang where peter sam is wearing duncan's face, and if you haven't seen it yet, it looks as bad as it sounds lol

I've seen all the face mix ups before except the one where Edward has Douglas's tired face and Diesel has Cranky's happy face those are just very odd and messed up to me in my personal opinion.

I’ve always wondered how they messed up with Gordon’s face on Henry, because like you said, they look COMPLETELY different.

Duck was always one of my two favorite characters, the other being Oliver. But Duck's face in the model series always sent shivers down my spine. The pointed cheeks and crescent moon eyes just felt so unnatural. But Duck's CGI face was my favorite CGI face of all the engines. Favorite model face was Toby (particularly his mischievous smiling face)

Actually, the James sad face was used on Edward in the second episode, before they ever showed James with the sad face, I think they were experimenting which faces looked best on which characters. Cranky’s face on diesel however, it’s hilarious how bad it looks
