The Thomas Model is owned by Mattel and is Under Lock and Key in their storage. This shows that Mattel truly wants to display that they Own Thomas & Friends. Not just the character, but a franchise as a whole.
I think they're only keeping it under lock and key, is because they don't want it stolen by people. The perspex Thomas is I think the most sought after. What Thomas fan wouldn't want that in their collection?
It’s in chains because Thomas is the main character and is thus the most valuable one. They don’t want it to end up like the season 4 Rheneas and Duncan models.
If he’s been in there for a long time, and I mean like a long time that Thomas must be dirty and dusty I don’t know if they clean them because I don’t work for Mattel
I think Mattel should show Thomas’ original Perspex model for something special, maybe an 80th anniversary event. I would absolutely go there, and Mattel would DEFINITELY make lots of money off of it.
@HitlerLovesAnime The Missing Coach was a filmed episode for Series 2 featuring Donald & Douglas but it ended up being scrapped as they thought the storyline was too confusing for children...they replaced it with Thomas Percy & The Coal. Down The Mine is the original pilot episode of Thomas The Tank Engine but it was re-filmed as the version we know from Series 1
@@TheFunnyDictatorThe Missing Coach was supposed to be the episode where they feature the scottish twins, but the release was canceled and they replaced it with thomas, percy and the coal, but soon made an episode titled Donald and Douglas (which was supposed to be the missing coach). Although, some of the footage of the missing coach was leaked.
@geelong2280 considering how the models were treated in drayton manor, many think he was saved but will never be seen again, it would probably be a long while before we see that toby again, kinda like how the ruby slipper were stolen.
@@FlyingFishProductions Not too mention the various props, including some buildings, road vehicles and other minor props from Series 1-5 and some props from TUGS during and after production of TATMR due to the poor handling of the airport staff.
@@GothRailfan If you’re referring to the photos I think you’re talking about, they were all thrown out. There’s images of the nearly destroyed close-up modes next to a large dumpster outside the storage unit. There were some parts salvaged though, not many unfortunately.
When production wrapped, the models were just "garbage" and had no use. Employees were allowed to take them home as souvenirs and ultimately as those employees either passed away, needed money, or just didn;t want it anymore, they ended up transitioning into the collector market. This has happened with Hot Wheels too. Bruce Pascl, a legendary collector, owns tons and tons of the original blueprints, model sheets, and artwork for the original redline cards from 1968. He got them from being friends with the original designers and artists of the cars and they just gave him all that stuff as presents over the years. Eventually, Mattel has come to HIM for help when they want to re-release old model cars because they no longer have any of the blueprints or designs, and he has them all. lol
Basically almost every model: OWNED BY MATTEL! Luckily old iron, rusty red scrap iron, little green caterpillar, and wooden box were saved by collectors.
I hope Mattel plans on restoring City of Truro's model but to its original look. It's rather sad seeing it as a scrap engine. I also hope that Mattel will one day show the models in storage to the public again. BTW, what about the models you didn't mention. What happened to Neville, Molly, Flora, & Hank?
@@JosephRailwayStudios2000 Yea, trying to restore that model to what it looked like back in 1991 would be hard it not impossible. We don't know the condition of the perspex, and if sanding off the brown paint and rusted appearance is really worth the effort. Making a brand new City of Truro model would be more feasible, not to mention have it run. The original model was never made to run. It was set dressing from the drawing board. So restoring it is pointless.
"As of 2023, Thomas' original model is owned by Mattel and is under lock and key in their storage, and has not been seen by the public in 16 whole years" Further proof Mattel doesn't care about the heritage of the show, as if All Engines Go wasn't enough evidence.
I am so happy to hear that the models at Drayton Manor are going to be relocated to a better place and can’t wait to see how the new layout will look thanks for sharing this video of my childhood favorite show 👍❤️
So if Thomas’s original model is in Mattel’s Storage, would this mean that they would’ve had the authority to use it for that fantasy sequence that we were to get in the planned series 25?
@@TheFunnyDictatorif we actually got a season 25 instead of All Engines Go, there would've been a time travel episode where the CGI episode would go back in time and meet his original model in a dream sequence.
@@MrWolfSnack I suppose so, but considering how pristine the other models look (City of Truro notwithstanding), it really makes it stand out a lot more. Makes me wish Mattel would purchase it back and fix him up
If I had the money, I’d try to purchase all of these original models, mechanically restore them, outwardly backdate them to their original debut appearances and take them on exhibitions to raise awareness for a little project called the model mania museum; a special museum dedicated to the preservation of props from Thomas and other similar shows such as tugs or the Thunderbirds. Giving a home to these legendary pieces of history that made countless memories for children all over the globe.
`Arry & Bert and Splatter & Dodge were my favourite characters for some reason, pity seeing that they'll likely never see the light of day again :< would've been nice to see them in Project Tiger Moth or something
Henry's shape changed when he had to go to Crew to us regular coal not Welsh. You can even see this in your video 1:23 So It could not be the original from series 1 that retired in 2007.
It is the original model, the new shape parts that were added to Henry's model could easily be added on and taken off afterwards. There are even photos taken after Season 2 with Henry in his Season 1 condition, and you can find them with relative ease.
Weren't the prop models rebuilt for Magic Railroad and used in the series after from the sixth season? Instead of looking glossy, they changed them up to have matte finish paint jobs.
Dude this is so interesting. I felt like I was the only one who wondered about this lol. There was no way I wasn’t gonna watch this when I saw it in recommended 😂
I never understood the difference between the original models and the brass models, because to me they look the exact same, examples include Thomas's, Gordon's, Percy's and Toby's models, they're plastic and brass models look the exact same, no differences whatsoever, meanwhile Edward's, Henry's, and James plastic and brass models have minor differences, but still looking very similar. I need an answer to how people can tell the plastic and brass models apart from each other because to me, they look the exact same
You do know the original Thomas model is at drayton manor under restoration, right? Also the Down the mine models werent remodeled but replaced. No one knows what happend to them
There are 6 Gauge 1 models of Thomas, the original Perspex one I talked about in this video. A Brass copy made for TATMR, Three Brass copies used in the HIT era. Along with a Resin copy which I believe is at the Hara model Railway museum. The Gauge 1 “Down the Mine” pilot models were reused for the show, they were changed a lot though and were given Marklin Chassis’. City of Truro actually reused Gordon’s pilot model wheels.
I remember these Thomas the Train Engine models in the animation on for example PBS this is a serene and nice memory :) 애니메이션과 PBS 등에서 나온 기관차 토마스 모델을 기억합니다.
Probably because they think it would get stolen. I mean, out of all of the original props, the original Thomas model probably would be the most sought after by people. I mean who wouldn't want to have that? That's kinda how I feel as to why we haven't seen the perspex model since the model series ended.
@@StewieJustSaidThat if they dropped it, I’m sure someone would try to fix it. As bad as Mattel is, I doubt everyone who works for them doesn’t give a crap about Thomas and does want to look after the models.
@@joshuaW5621 There has to be at least one person at Mattel that cares about the models. I feel like it would be unrealistic if literally nobody cared at all. If nobody cared, then why would there still be models in their ownership? If literally nobody at Mattel cared about the models, then there would be none in their possession. I would love to own a prop from the show, ever since I was like 13-14 in 2007-2008. But realistically I don't think that's ever going to happen. The people of ThomasTankMerch are lucky to have the amount of props as they do.
The down the mine pilot Gordon looks so… wrong… like it looks so wrong it’s genuinely kind of unnerving to look at. If I had to guess it would be the face.
I admit I need to get a few of these by Bachmann Like Gordon & a bunch of his express coaches Duck especially since I had one as a Matchbox! need Bill too since I got Ben cause it my rl name! think I read they wanted to do the whole story with the Flying Scotsman but didn't cause of what you said!
It was always werid as hell to me City of Turo didn’t have a face. Like he’s literally the only character in the TV series that wasn’t alive. Probably because this saved alot of money as he was never intended to appear more than once but still SUPER weird to me. Like you couldn’t just use an existing mold?
I hope the props that TomsProps have will resurface someday. I don’t want to imagine Rheneas and Duncan disappearing again just because of some drama involving their owner.
There is two models of diesel 10. The first one is his actual model and the second one is the one when he has the long version of the claw that is used for viaduct scene.
Personally, I would just break in and take the Thomas model from Mattel. I love Thomas a lot so I’m taking him I don’t care if Mattel sends the police, the military, the millennium falcon Han solo if they can get a hold of them. Im keeping him until death
Spencer reminds me of the LNER A4 which I am lucky enough to have an example an hour from my home. It is probably my favorite engine at the National Railroad Museum. (It would've been neat to see all six of the surviving engines when they were brought together in York! As would a movie about how they got the two from the US and Canada across the pond and to the museum in York.)
I can just imagine the scene now, entering the boss of Mattel's office. It's dark, the shades are pulled; they're wearing sunglasses, slightly highlighted by the rays of light coming in through the Manhattan skyline and piercing the shades. A nervous man walks into the office, sidled by two larger gentlemen in suits. They guide him towards the desk and the boss. "See that safe over there?" The boss says. "Err, yeah" says the obviously underachieving employee. The boss stands up. "I've got Thomas the fucking tank engine in there, and don't you forget it. If I say I want the quarterlies on my desk by Friday I mean it. Back to your desk, you're more unreliable than Edward."
Hearing that the models of Henry, Gordon, Duck, Daisy, BoCo, and Class 40 are owned by Mattel makes it even worse since they allowed those models to get damaged by Drayton Manor and Tugs The Exhibition. Then again they probably just see these character model as model trains with faces instead of tv props.
just a quick question, ar eyou sure Lady has gone back to mattels storage? i ask simply because a picture you used of oliver at Hara shows Lady in front of him.
Also Duck's model was originally intended to be displayed at Hara Model Railway Museum but was sent back due to damage during Shipping and Stepney was previously displayed at Drayton Manor
"It hasn't been seen by the public in 16 whole years?" Really? I would have expected them to have it locked up longer considering the state of a lot of the props were in other hands. For that, I'm glad it's in storage and not out and being 'displayed' by people who don't understand the importance of these props or think just sticking tack on 40 something year old props is 'enough' to still keep them out. Yeah, you know EXACTLY who I'm talking about. Also, I'm amazed that the og models were used as long as they were. When I heard 1984, I was expecting them to be retired in like 1994 but no, these bad boys lasted until the 2000s, some staying for 22 years! That's AMAZING!
@@SuperCosmicMutantSquid I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that information about the original 1983 Perspex Thomas model is out of date. I’ve heard from people who have contacts at Mattel that the Mattel employees who oversee the models themselves apparently don’t even know where the model is. So it isn’t in storage apparently, nor on display. I have heard rumours that it is in the possession of a former crew member. But we really don’t know. Might make a proper video about it at some point.
so i learned how they were made like a few years ago The island of sodor was discorverd i serched on the wiki and they told me that a kind of magic spreaded across the the island leading thge engiens to have faces LIKE HUMANS kinda a freeky but the most disturbing that there organs are in a diffrent shapes instead of humans
I recall having a debate with someone about wether the toby that was auctioned off was the perspex or brass model I had go explain brass doenst break like that evident by all the damage showed in the photos safe to say I was correct.
