Great Review. I’ve owned the 100 watt version for 4 years and do not regret buying it. I’ve had many Marshalls and still find this better. No boost needed as you indicated. Again, great job
Euge, you are fast becoming my favourite amp reviewer. I love how you give a background and review of the features. The fact that you always run through the same setup gives consistency and allows us to hear the differences in the amps, rather than a different cab / pedal combo every vid. Hats off to you - oh and your album is killer!
I had a powerball, savage 120, and 2 blackmores. Loved them all but the Savage 120 has a special place in my heart. Engl definitely has its own original voicing.
The Engl is such an underrated amp. I never thought much of them until I was standing in front of Mick Box of Uriah Heep’s Engl at a festival a few years ago and man, his power chords could make your ears ring for a week! It sounds much smoother but and whilst it’s inspiration is clearly Marshall, it seems to have its own thing going on. The high gain channel is just nuts!!
Indeed 👌. Speaking of Mick, he has actually played with my Bad Boy when they’ve toured in Finland with Heep and if I understood correct he’d inquired the possiblity from the Rental company (which has rented it from me) to buy it but I said no 😎. He is not the only one who’ve tried to buy it from me 😊.
I owned the Artist Edition 100 for 5 plus years now and its been my favorite amp. I've gone through roughly 40 heads and this one stays. Is it the best? Whatever, its my favorite. Cheers!!!
That Engl sounds really good! every time I watch a demo vid of one of their amps someone always says how tight and articulate it is! I just bought a savage 120 Mk II...waiting for the speaker cabinet to get here gaaaaah its taking forever!!!!
Awesome vid and amp Euge. It does have a lot of balls like the 800s baby brother,I really like the guitar playing from your Red Wolf album. Take care and Thank agian for the professional content.🎸👍💥
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that it was the Blackout Artist Edition ! Engl should sponsor you cause I have searched wide and large for a demo but to no avail ! Well done ! Cheers from Morocco
Oh, ich sehe grad, dass du höchstwahrscheinlich deutscher bist: bist du immer noch zufrieden mit dem Amp? Was für Stile hast du damit gespielt? Irgendwelche besonderen Downtunings?
Excited for this. Love the engls in amp room and amplitube 5, but I like having context for them. Comparing things to a Marshall helps me understand them better, because I get what 800s and Plexis are. Keep it up 👍
@@EugeValovirta230Vengls are clicking for me now. it's like a boosted 800 with 6l6s. I can finally dial them in right. Great compliment to a Marshall in stereo. Try the one in amp room, it's awesome.
Hi Euge, best amp reviews on youtube !! I am deciding between this head and the evh 5150 el-34 one. Personally, which one did you like more between these two heads ?
I always liked ENGL, but I never got to own one. Cheaper than MESA, but more expensive than EVH in the USA. Michael ROMEO uses a ENGL Powerball. The Artist 50w you demo'd here seems capable of getting any tones I would want. The lack of knobs to adjust everything limits it's use on-stage, but this amp is more for studio recording work. More specifically: high-gain lead tones. Great demo, and I like how it compared to your Marshall's. It sounded great to me! I look forward to you doing a video with the EVH 50watt Stealth! Have a great day Euge, see you on the next one!
If this behaves like the Engl Blackmore head (which is very similar to this), with the right footswitch you have selection of 4 levels of gain (the 4 'channels'), plus two separate, totally independent master volume levels. The master volume levels are not tied to channel modes then. Really great for live shows for boosting solo levels :) I agree, the gain difference between channels 3 and 4 is huge. Channel 3 is my favourite on the Blackmore, more dynamic and tighter attack. The Blackmore head too can be quite Marshall-esque, although having more pronounced lower midrange, while Marshalls have more pronounced high mids.
@@EugeValovirta230V Yeah, it's not really useful for solo level gain switch; working the volume pot of the guitar or some midrange -oriented overdrive + switch to higher master level is the better tap-dancing tactic :) Nevertheless, the two footswitchable volume levels is something all amps should have (I do forgive the old classic amps though for not having it ;) You do great gear presentations, or actually content in general, keep up the good work!
The ENGL Amp with his modern sound, sounds really great, but the JCM 800 is my all time favorite Amp. At 07:10 min I thought you would start playing "whatever you want" by Status Quo 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👍👍
Thanks for this! I'm very interested in the Engl Artist Edition E651 100; not sure if it will sound different enough from my Engl rack rig (with 6L6GC power tubes) to make it worth it? Great tones, great playing, as usual, cheers!
EUGE there's definitely no acting when it comes to your Love and Passion for Everything music. ATTENTION 2 DETAIL U ALWAYS NAIL IT. That being said U would make a great HITMAN ON SCREEN . THANKS 4 BEING SOLID AND STRAIGHT UP WHEN IT COMES 2 U SHARING UR TIME AND EXPERTISE. JJ ONTARIO RESPECTED RECKLESSNESS
Great demonstration as always. The ENGL sounded great, until you played it back to back with the 800 😎 Thanks for the video my friend. Have a good week 🤘🤘
Great video, mate. To be honest, I like your Marshall tone much more. Especially for this song. Marshall is much more aggressive, bright, has some bite and ballsier. Engl is like "eh, yeah, nice high gain" till I hear your JCM800's tone. Thanks for awesome content.
Great amp !!! I love that tight low end response ! This one is really good , but i think the Engl Blackmore signature (100 watt) , wich is very similar to this , is the best amp. ever made for power metal type of music !
Glad to hear! Yeah the ”trick” to heavy sounds is to use as little as you bare ’cos then it sounds bigger & punchier. Most of the times people use way too much and then they wonder why their tone isn’t big & punchy 😎. And mids are really important too 😊.
We all had the Metallica scooped mids gain to 11 syndrome at some point... Luckily I was pointed in the right direction early, a tuberscreamer pedal into a crunch channel dialed as low as you can get away with has been my foundation for a decade+ now, which coincidentally seems to be the same thing the guy running this channel is a fan of too.
Hi Euge, Thanks for your videos. What about an A/B/C comparison with powerball 2 and Fireball 2 like the one with the E650 ? What is the best between those three for Modern Metal sound ?
You’re welcome man! I’ve just borrowed these to do a few videos so not likely but who knows maybe some day again 😎. My favourite amp of the ENGLs I’ve tried was this and the Fireball. Play tight metal and they’ll amplify tight metal, play loose stoner rock and they amplify that 😎👌.
Thanks! Depends how loud you play (how loud is your drummer😎) but the amp is loud so I’m pretty sure it works. And live everything’s mic’d anyways and you can use monitors etc. so it doesn’t really matter.
Great playing, of course! I liked the "small mistake"...it sounded cool! This Engl delves into Mesa territory with a little more mids, probably due to the EL34 power tubes. Sounds a bit "cold" to me. It's OK, but I'll take a Marshall Plexi or 800.
I've never played that amp but it's the same with the Engl Savage, with mostly all other amps I use a tube screamer in front but with the Savage you really don't need one.
Awesome channel! Awesome playing🤘🏻 Really helped me a lot justify buying the SLO 30😅 just couldn’t make it sing the way you can🙈 quick question, which would you pick, the ENGL Artist Edition or Marshall SC20H???
@@EugeValovirta230V which one of the two would you say is the more easier amp to use to get that 80’s & early 90’s tone? It’s so good how you can make the amps sound as close to each other. And im still trying to figure out how you make them amp growl with as less gain as possible😅
hello EUGE !!, greetings from CHILE. Excellent video, as you know I'm sharing it on TWITTER !! he he. By the way I have already ordered the SUHR Reactive Load IR, which I think will arrive next week! I hope it meets my expectations with the interface that I currently have a FAST TRACK DUO. A hug!! Bye bye !!!
I guess it depends what Friedman is in question but this one is pretty damn versatile too. I don’t really use the DS-1 but SD-1 or is that what you meant? 😎
I have a guy locally offering to trade this for my dual rectifier tremoverb. What are your thoughts on the amp from a total perspective. Cleans to modern metal.
Request noticed ;-). The balance sounds good to me in my studio when I'm editing these but I haven't really watched & listened these with any other devices (mobile phones, laptops etc.) 😉. Some people have actually asked me the other way so I guess I’ll just trust my own ears & monitors 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V in the end it might be the same request: ppl turn up the volume to hear the playing louder and then the voice becomes too loud. To make it easier you can take other channels as a reference for overall volume level since ppl jump through videos and kinda like to keep it at the same vol level. Then again this is just a small "quality of life" detail for us, dont sweat on it :)
Damn, went to buy this Album but not available on Amazon.ca, only .com (US) :( I don't do the Spotify thing and am not an Apple guys so never used iTunes....Bummer
That engl tone sounds like engl savage or fireball... Please try all type of engl still wanna hear the sound compared to the 800 Engl is the 2nd amp maker i like but theres no one sell it in my country 😔😔😔 🍻🍻🍻🍻
I have the same opinion. The high gain switch adds too much gain and there should be a separate gain pot for high gain. As far I know a lot of artists used the prototype in a studio environment and not live so it's ok too have it as it is but for live playing it's not usable.
Euge, let me give you my address for the Engl...LOL . I love it I'll swap you an my EVH 100 watt with new JJ tubes in the preamp and power tubes... What do you say? My EVH is in showroom condition? Come on brother.
That worked for all my Framus amps. In my ENGL Invader I have a ecc803 at V1 Position. It makes the sound overall more comfortable to listen to, without dropping the gain that much.
@@EugeValovirta230V awesome video. That is some chunky tone. Did not know that about ENGL. Gotta say though, your Marshall’s pretty much cover all the sounds you need.
@@EugeValovirta230V Thanks you are great guy and wonderful guitar player. When you and your band come to Portugal? The portuguese fans are waiting... 🤘
after hearing him play with active, passive pickups and different tunnings i can definitely say that his tone is in his fingers since it sounds "like Euge" every time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Ah, yeah. The amp that powers Rammstein. I love playing through this amp on AmpliTube 5. Would love to find one locally to buy but hard to come by without shipping and what not.
As much I would love to like this amp, I just can’t. It sounds pretty nice but your Bad Boy Mashall just overpowers it. Engl is nice but lacks the thunder and lightning Bad Boy delivers. Bad Boy is the roaring lion and Engl is the meowing kitty cat. To my ears this is the case with the most of tmodern amps. They have all gain you’ll ever need, but are too compressed.
