When we were a great nation with pride & manners & respect. We were reasonably safe. Oh, to turn the click back from this wicked world we live in now. God Bless us all.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the 1960s was the most explosive decade of the 20th century, including the Civil Rights Movement, urban riots, protests, cultural revolution, Vietnam War, Space Race, and at least 3 political assassinations: John Kennedy, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. I could go on but let's just say you have an impressive set of rose tinted glasses.
I always think that this being 1960 having endured the First World War and being a mere 15 years after the second world war it was a bit of a breather for the country, it must have been a great relief after such horrific sacrifices that we not only fought off invasion but we had persevered our way of life and you can nearly feel the relaxed vibe of people enjoying the hard fought peace, great video on how we used to live 😊
Fabulous! That garden at the end of the film was spectacular, much like our late Dad's garden and many of our neighbours. I'm afraid I did not inherit his green fingers.
Looks like one of the Oxford colleges, Anne Hathaway's cottage, Stratford upon Avon, scenes around the Queen Victoria Memorial in the Mall and the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. The past IS another country. They do things differently there...
Oh to be in England now that 1960 is here. Clean streets, well dressed British folk (who had families going back generations). This was when the police were Bobbies, a sensible uniform, only carrying a whistle and a truncheon and used a phone box to call the local nick. No need for stab vests, pepper spray, radios, tasers and firearms and one constable could patrol on his own. Its a pity that life in Britain could not have stayed that way.
THE START OF A NEW ERA, AND NEW HOPE. I STARTED A NEW JOB, ( THAT LASTED TILL i RETIRED,) I MOVED INTO MY FIRST HOUSE, JANUARY 4TH, IT WASN'T ALL ROSES, BUT NOW IN MY 80'S, ON REFLECTION, LIFE HAS BEEN GOOD, BUT , THIS NEW CENTURY, IS A DOWN-HILL ROUTE TO NATIONAL DESTRUCTION. I WORY FOR THE YOUNGSTER'S FUTURE.
Excellent scanning work and overall production. Do you mind sharing the scanner you used? I have hours of European 8mm home movies from the 60's mostly.
Born in 1961 I was Lucky today's society is non existent no manners pride or thought for anyone except themselves and then there's the Muslims of course 😱👍🏴🦊
@@maltesetony9030 there was no goosestepping, if you recall that generation defeated the nation that goose stepped, can you say the same about this generation and Putins Russia.
Nope it was far worse, almost no central heating (and the climate much colder so winters were often bitter and long), insanitary slums in most cities, foreign travel only for the privileged classes, women paid less for doing the same work, domestic abuse rife with no social services to speak of, bland food with boiled soggy vegetables and 2 grainy channels on a black and white tv if you could afford one. Oh and deeply racist language was common parlance and gay people suffered extreme persecution if they were exposed. You head back to 1960 if you want to. I will stick with 2024 warts and all.
@@gerardmackay8909Don't forget cigarette smoke and white dogshit every plus chimneys spewing out crap everywhere. Three of my four grandparents didn't reach their 70s. Died in their early and mid 60s.
Im@gerardmackay8909 I'd sooner be in I960 Than today, murders, stabbings , crime, no respect for each other, less traffic and we did have warm summers and cold winters like nature intended.
