Ahhhhh when footballers were real men, not adorned with tattoos, diamond earrings, buzz cuts, dyed hair......just men totally interested in playing and representing their respective countries.... glorious days.. sadly..long, long gone..RIP lads !!!!!!!
Aah that brings back memories of my Dad in the 1970’s when he used to say that footballers in the 1940’s and ‘50s were real men, not these guys with long hair who look like girls and who play negative football, not the positive attacking football of yore
That is our football .Not useless ball possession , running for nothing but only striking matter .The football doctrine is scoring for winning a match .
West Germany and the Netherlands were the up- and-coming powers in European football then and England, representing the old guard, was on the wane at the time, probably lingering still on the memories of 1966. This match always reminds me somewhat of the footballing lessons the great Hungarian team of the 1950's gave the Three Lions in 1953 and '54, something of a shock for England and the English footballing press, but then again, that was no harm. They need a come-uppance every now and again. 😌
Probably true, but England was much more in the fight here than in '53 and '54 against Hungary. In this one, they had been building up for a long time toward Lee's equalizer and it looked like they'd earned at least a draw.
I remember the game on TV. Germany were led by the imperious Beckenbauer and driven by Gunter Netzer in what was probably the most complete midfield performance I have ever witnessed Only 2 years later West Germany won the Jules Rimet Trophy beating a Johan Cruff Dutch side 3 1 in the final, a tournament England failed to qualify for losing to Poland in the qualifying group
I was 7 then, even as a 7 year old I could tell that West Germany were well in control of that match it was the start of England's wilderness years ... we had to wait 8 years for Euro 80 and we flopped then.
Germany WC champs 74 90 14 2nd place 82 86 02 3rd place 06 10 euro champs 72 80 96 2nd place 76 92 08 yup Germany had some success form this point on 😁
@@NuisanceMan It really wasn't. England had no chance. Germany had beat them 2 years prior already at the 1970s World Cup and while England got worse and didn't qualify for any major tournament until 1982, Germans went on to win the 1972 Euros, 1974 World Cup & 1980 Euros.
German dominance ? They won Euro 72 and the WC in 74. Euro 80 six years later. It took another 10 to win their next trophy in 1990. They didn't dominate the WC and while three wins in the Euros is impressive from 1972-1996, they didn't win the other 5.
And your STUPID England has NEVER won anything!!! (except the STOLEN 1966 World Cup with a "goal" where the ball NEVER CROSSED the LINE!!!!@@DannyBoy777777
@@DannyBoy777777 'It took another 10 to win their next trophy.' Wow that is a long time. Remind me again Mr Saddo how many years have elapsed since 1966 and winning sweet F*ck all in the interim period.
@@DannyBoy777777I believe the OP is saying that Germany were almost always there at the business end of tournaments. Two World Cup runners-up finishes (1982, 1986) plus another European Final in 1992, in addition to what has already been mentioned, is not to be sniffed at. They were very consistent back then.
My recollection of this match is that it was a bit one sided and we were given a lesson. Looking at that although only highlights it appears that we were well in the match. We were on the slide though at that time.
At least England weren't one dimensional. they had a Plan B; plan A to lump one up on the six yard box and see what happens. Plan B, let Emlyn Hughes try his luck from 25 yards
I think your answer is not understand here, to much knowledge, to much information. Anyway, thank you very much for your very intelligiant, carefully answer.
And it won't end i grew up with it. Its the English mentality of going out there not to lose instead of total commitment to win. Their mentality is to be weak and spoilt. A foreign manager is always necesaru to stop the nepotism.
The tragedy is that in the 70's England could have been doing the same as the Germans with some thought, better management and more professionalism from the players. Unfortunately none of those things happened. German and English players had a lot in common; physically strong, durable and never gave up but the Germans had better technique and were able to add flair to their other qualities. The Germans did not cross long balls to the far post; they played a lot of one-two’s and angled passes, especially to front players and tried to reach the foot farthest away from the marker.
I really can't understand how you can manage to cut a game together so disastrously. Totally disjointed editing. Cuts that are far too short or abrupt cuts in the middle of action. If you can't do something like that, then you'd better leave it alone. I'll give you some good advice: don't do it in future.
Love to see engerlish get beaten at anything for that matter, but never mind engerland won the ww1 ww2, without Wales, northern Ireland, Scotland,The USA, Canada, Australia, new Zealand, Poland,India, France,or any other country for that matter!
@@user-qk7vv3mx1s If it were for arrogance and ignorance id give england the gold medal, expectancy and self richoiusness in abundance.May again I remind you the World Wars were not won by england Germany lost in a dodgy final in 66 but how they flourished there after, now that's a country that should have bragging rights!
