I remember that game, it was one of the best where England warned New Zealand that they would have a big defeat, England's formation and the gestures of their men say everything.
In case you missed it, Enlgand stood in a reverse wedge which is the battle formation you'd take up when faced with warriors who have let them selves get bunched up. Wait for them to advance, then close the jaws of the flanks. A cheeky way to face warriors as warriors
Very well and cleverly played by New England since half of it's best players are Maori. AB couldn't get one right today and "England" capitalised well on their mistakes, winning at every phase of the game. Congrats future champions. I remember in highschool here in America we had a football game (American Football that is) against a school with many Tongan kids who traditionally did the haka for their pre game ritual but we had several Samoans on my team and we did a haka back to them as a sign we weren't going to back down. It was probably the most intense thing I've been apart of in sports.

As an English man living in NZ, I can tell you, there is nothing the fans and players love and respect more than a "challenge" from the opposing team. It's what it's all about.
no, your not aloud to pass your opponents half way line when they are performing there pre-match 'ritual' or 'dance' thats why its an incredible response, because your legally not aloud
@Azzury Street t is some token amount but the rules have been in place for some time now if you cross the half way you get fined. That is why the All blacks stand on the 10m line so they don't over step it or encourage the other team to overstep it. Prior to those rules being in place you would get teams going face to face and sometimes fights would break out before the 1st whistle....(What is the ref to do? sin -bin players before kick off?) England either knew what would happen and ignored it or were completely ignorant of the rules

Tbh, NZ against Ireland was the best rugby I've seen in a while. If you give them space to play they're incredible. We gambled today with high pressure defence and it worked only because this England side is immensely fit and driven. All blacks will still mince any world team given the space to play.

In case you don’t know, it’s the fact that some of the English players were in front of the halfway line, which is not permitted before the match. You could see the referees trying to get them behind it. England got fined around £1000 or something

I disagree I think the Māori Hama is extremely disrespectful to their opponents, expecting grown tough men to stand there and look at this nonsense without retaliation. Also the haka is getting pretty old, come up with something else NZ or give it away.

This is (in my opinion) the most spine tingling haka of all time. The Maori war cry's were terrifying at the start.. perenara absolutely nailed it. This version of the haka beats ka mate kora hands down. The crowd were electric. The response from England was superb. Just the best haka I've ever seen.
The V shape makes it difficult for the Haka dancers to inflict their intimidation on a central target because the English players in the middle are all the way back, and the ones on the end are far to the side.

England has a population of around 55 milion to draw on for their team. New Zealand around 3- 4 million. I'm in awe of the Kiwis ability to punch above their weight. Beautiful country, lovely people, great sportsmen ( and women).
NZ have probably been the most consistent cricket side In the last 6-7 years too and they have less players than all the major sides India alone have more cricket players than the whole population of NZ a very sporty nation.
England have a greater population yes but we're up there in most sports, you've sacrificed some sports and concentrated on rugby. Our national sport isn't rugby so to still do well is great.
For those searching for the response, the new Zealand team made an arrow formation for their haka and England created a v making a counter formation basically saying we got you covered, hit us
Who ever asked the English rugby players to adopt that opposing formation knows battle craft. That is the perfect formation to challenge and envelope an opposing army. Encourage them into the centre, envelope and attack from the rear and both sides. England won the haka challenge and the game.
Why are teams not allowed to chalkenge the haka anymore and have to stay behind the white line? Who gives NZ the right to demand that opposing teams stand back quietly and watch their "war dance" without trying to rile them up?

The position England took up by surrounding the haka made the haka look less significant. In fact I think England made the haka look fairly tame by their positions. They were that wide the kiwis didnt where to pull the faces. and Farrell's smirk was him just laughing at them. ..fair play england. Irish man here delighted with the result.
Yes I agree. England were very prepared and were very strong. The smirks were just examples of their extreme confidence. The Haka doesn’t scare teams into losing or make them “cry” utter BS. Less competent teams lose against the ABs it has nothing to do with the Haka.

Pretty sure the battle of Cannae was just a normal flanking manouvre, the impressive thing about it was that it was done on a larger force, if I'm not mistaken.
I don't watch rugby but many New Zealand Haka videos keep getting suggested to me. What I want to know is after all that chanting, face making, and chest thumping does the New Zealand team win? Are they the winningest team? Or do they just have the best pre-game chant?
New Zealand is the most successful international rugby union team of all time they have held top ranking more times than the rest And won the world cup 3 times which along with south africa is the most. So yes they are the winningest team
