I first saw Richardson in Anguilla in 1979 when as a 17 year old he visited Anguilla with the Antigua cricket team. He opened and he did not get many runs. Those were the days when players mingled with the crowd in the old pavilion. A teenager myself, I spoke with him for a long time about cricket and his aspirations and so on. Years later when he got into the big time, I used to be tickled to know that it is the same person who I met in tiny Anguilla and he is now lighting up the world stage. He came to Anguilla many more times after he achieved fame but I never spoke to him again.
just think about it, Carl Hooper underachieved and still scored over 5000 runs and took over 100 wickets and I think over100 catches in both tests and ODIs. Greatness was at his finger tips.
