Yes... I knew that. Law is more open and door is more closed. Another vowel that changes is "i", when it's followed by the ng sound, but it needs to be stressed, as an finger, pink, sink, sing.

IPA is not perfect, unfortunately. It's an approximation, and the sounds people say can differ somewhat from what is written.

Hi! I'd say this refers to the time recently up to now, and doesn't indicate for sure whether it will continue, but it might continue unless something changes.

Not exactly, because the R will affect the vowel sound. The OR vowel will feel somewhere between and AW and an O.

Law can be pronounced using either the AH or AW sound.

The two words have totally different vowels. I'm thinking that you must have grown up in a place where there's a heavy accent and it made you deaf to the difference between 'awe' and 'oh'. /r/ is a vowel and it's a provider of many lovely diphthongs. I'm using 7M Phonetic Alphabet instead of IPA here: 'or' (oh + er) = oar & or 'er' (eh + er) = air 'ʌr' (awe + er) = are 'εr' (ee + er) = ear IPA vowel combos would be: o̞ɹ = oar eɹ = air ɑɹ = are iɹ = ear
