A student showed me Chat GPT last week for the first time. As a teacher, I thought this was amazing. I thought that this would be so cool if we could use this for instruction and planning. To see this made me so happy. Wow!!! You nailed it.

This is great. I was reminded recently that we don’t even have to use “please” when communicating with AI - of course, I might regret not using manners when it becomes sentient.

I’m just exploring a career change and going into education. I was playing with ChatGPT and this is definitely amazing! It’s what I would call lean and streamlined. The real world recognizes that so why wouldn’t we teach it? I decided to practice making a curriculum map/lesson plan by copying the standards for an Indiana 4th grade core. I asked AI to put the standards in a chart using “I do”, “you do” and “we do” also with a relevant bell ringer having its own column starting with 8/5/24 and expanding five weeks. Then I asked it to add numeric bullet points to the activities. Less than a minute later--wow…there were lesson plans! I entered each subject separate and said “use the same format for these standards”. Then I copied all into excel sorted them by day. Anyone who calls it a cheat hasn’t worked in a field that demands this manner of thinking. Btw, can you do a video for Indiana curriculum maps? I can’t find any that has already been created by a district.

Many of my fellow teachers feel like using AI is a cheat .However, many teachers do use TPT or in colleges professors have TAs. Both of those tools are OK. So I see ChatGPT as a tool. Also it’s important that we teach our students how to properly use this tool as well. I know when I was in school. I was not allowed to do any of my homework on a computer because the teacher said the computer will do the homework for me. How times have changed

I am working on becoming a licensed teacher and one of my professors said TPT is good, but make sure not to choose something just because it is cute because it may lack depth. Chat GPT is definitely not cute but it can for sure build lessons that teach students what they actually need to know!

My students answer all the questions using the ChatGPT even when they are expected to do it themselves.

Thanks your so wonderful!☺. However there is a down side, if we can use AI, so can students. So we will have to have something to counteract that. The information is based on human created input or information that was created by humans at one time or another. If chat AI's can do this, then it is one step closer to replacing teachers. It is not all negative though. When I become older I will have an AI controlled robot to remind me if I already took my medicine and I am fine with that. :)

While ChatGPT can certainly enhance teachers' everyday lives in the classroom by providing additional resources, ideas, and support, it doesn't replace the need for a formal education and a teaching degree. ChatGPT and other AI tools can be valuable aids for teachers, offering lesson planning assistance, answering questions, providing supplemental materials, and more.
