Thanks for your kind words. When it comes to calling coyotes around calving cows I am a little protective of those techniques. Those sounds and technics I only use at that time. Ranchers want coyotes killed especially during that time. I don’t want those sounds to be used by other people in the area that watch my videos so they become educated to them. I just spent three days hunting a ranch to rid coyotes because their killing the sheep. Unfortunately others have been in there calling and have made it almost impossible to call up and kill them. I was able to call up and we killed 5 but I pulled out some new tricks to get it done. I love to help others out but sometimes I have to protect some things so I can still kill coyotes for ranchers.

I’ve heard there’s not a lot there. Wolves probably kill them off.

@@OutDoors406 I’m sure if I made time and put forth the effort I could find them. There aren’t too many places around me that I can see 100 yards but I know it’s kind of an excuse. Maybe by next year I will have some sleds and can winter hunt too. I have seen a few wolves just driving around.

@@OutDoors406 As I mentioned above, the value of shade as camouflage that you discussed in the video applies directly to tight cover as well. Wind in tight cover can be a complete crapshoot, especially in the desert; you get a lot of swirling currents through the brush, and the wind shifts naturally from dawn through morning to midday. I have had so many coyotes come in from locations that I would swear that they never would come in from due to where I thought my scent would be blowing, that I had to learn to change my game up quite a bit. I used to set up with as long of a shooting alley as I could get, even if that meant sitting in an open/unshaded spot, but got busted frequently as they would spot me no matter how good my camo is. Once I learned to move the game call in to extremely close range, usually 20-50 yards, and get up against some cover in the shade/shadows, that has been a game changer. I also actually shifted much of my hunting over from a LPVO scoped AR to a lever action with iron sights because of this (I'm sure a shotgun would work excellent too, but I only carry one long gun and I need it to fill multiple roles.)

We use the 22-250 usually shooting a 50-55 grain bullet. We have a lot of wind and this caliber seems to be pretty effective.

On years their fur is worth decent money we will sell them. This year is not one of those years. They literally aren’t worth anything or vey little due to the fur market. The birds of prey get to them really quick and clean them up. We hunt them because we enjoy the sport not because of the fur prices.

@@OutDoors406 What about for the general removal of a pest?

Normally Remington nitro magnum 3” #2 lead but we have not been able to find any for a year or more. Hornady BBB works about as good but it’s hard to get as well for some reason. When I can’t find those I’ll shoot #4 nickel plated buck. 27 pellets in a round. Not nearly as effective at longer range like the other two, but under 50 yards works well. Im not paying the crazy prices for the fancy stuff, I miss to much! 😂

Great Video! I must say your tactics would not work as well in the NE. Most of your techniques are perfect for western or prairie hunters. In the Hardwoods of the NE one must be at the ready with maybe one quick shot opportunity! There is rarely time to “read the body language “. Personally the Eastern Coyote will rarely make a field entry (daytime) . Hunting the hardwoods will get you a shot much quicker than trying to get them to cross an open field. I’d also recommend leaving the e-call home if your not hunting a honey hole. Definition of “Honey Hole”= an area of private land that one coyote caller has sole rights to call. Generally this caller will maintain a honey hole by calling and killing most of the virgin ears he calls. An Eastern hunter must have confidence in his/her story(calling sequence) without reading body language from 1200 yds. away. We (NE coyote callers) must look to the biology of the coyote to configure the proper sound sequence as per the time of year! I will say a coyote is a coyote, but to say your particular tactics would work well where I’m from just aren’t true. Terrain dictates a lot! Very Entertaining video !

@@jkd0114 I believe I said some of the tactics may work for tighter areas. I know it’s two completely different types of country to hunt. The reason for the video was to teach ways of using an e-caller and giving some tips that others are not willing to share.
