Hey thanks for watching, I appreciate it. I think what I talked about the call sequences, volume etc are still going to apply - obviously you'll be having your call placed closer due to the smaller distances. I'd say try to set up just along or slightly in the tree line of of openings you mentioned with the caller & decoy (if avail) placed somewhere near the middle of the opening. You always wanna play the wind its very important against the canine nose. Ep.3 I'll be talking about that and should be out this Friday or Saturday so hopefully stay tuned for that! There was another channel I was watching where they were in thick bush like what you're talking about too and they were sitting on the edge of an overgrown trail - they used shotguns but aside from that the general concept is the same, they were using a mixture of electronic calls & hand calls.

Great video! I've been hunting for over 40 years but I just bought an e-caller and I'm brand spanking new to coyote hunting. Last Sunday I took my new caller out and sat in the SAME spot with it for about 2 hours with no luck (you know, cuz I already knew it all). Well, if I watched this video FIRST, I would have known that after about 30 minutes I was just wasting my time. This video is perfect if you're that guy that needs to know exactly how to start out coyote hunting. Nice job!
@OutdoorsAnonymous
@OutdoorsAnonymous 2 года назад
Thanks Brian, I don’t have nearly the experience as you when it comes to hunting so I take it all in like a sponge whenever I can from other people. Glad my video was able to provide value to even someone as experienced as yourself! As you probably already know there are always exceptions to any “rule” especially in hunting. Like for example if I’m in a more pressured area or expect them to come from further away I’d probably stay 45-60 mins in that spot before moving.

Tip # 1: Get a hunting App on your phone with wind direction, weather and Maps. Plan your hunting route before you leave home. You NEED to know which way the wind is blowing on the land you have permission to hunt, before you leave hme , that "ideal" spot that you have in mind may N0T even be approachable under certain wind directions. Blowing the wrong way and it may not even make sense to exit the vehicle. Know ahead of time and don't rely upon sticking a wetted finger out the truck window when you first get there. Keep a hunting log with information like a list of which hunting place are/or are not huntable on certain wind direction. This can save a lot of time. Yes, certain calls work well when you first get there. Prey in distress I alway start out at moderate volume for about 10 seconds before briefly pausing then returning to a low volume and gradually increasing through the sequence. In mating season I always start with one brief single howl then pause and wait , later you can howl intermittently. IF ... you have a preset choice selected for after the gun goes off , I alway use pups in distress.

What do you consider moving to another stand location? Say, the property consists of a 50 acre irregular shaped field with timber on the rest. would you move to another property entirely?
@OutdoorsAnonymous

Hey I would probably move to a diff property entirely, property like that chances are they’re hearing your calls so if they don’t answer they’re either not there or you been made.

@pmc9449
@pmc9449 2 года назад
what is the volume you would use on something like the lone wolf??
@OutdoorsAnonymous
@OutdoorsAnonymous 2 года назад
Depends on a couple things, like what’s the area like is it big open fields or are you closer to the woods where they’re likely to den? Larger open areas typically higher volumes vs closed areas since you’re generally calling further out. Howls also naturally are louder than an actual prey in distress, so you’d start at a comparatively higher volume as well. Eg. If you’re in an area you’re usually starting off low volume with a prey distress, then you’d start at maybe a medium volume with a hole in that same area. Generally when in doubt, start low and work your way up.

Most of your tips are correct BUT you need to be on stand for a MINIMUM of 35 minutes. I am a seasoned coyote hunter but I'm no professional by any means but if your hunting Coyotes thats been hunted before you need time and patience to bring them in. Sit a little bit longer and see how many more Coyotes you'll see.
@OutdoorsAnonymous

You’re right. Some stands take a bit longer if they’re used to the hunting pressure
@BuckyLindgren
@BuckyLindgren 2 года назад
Sometimes I go even longer. Up to an hour. When I threw the "20 minute rule" out the window I started killing more coyotes. The majority of coyotes ive killed have been between 30min to an hour. If you are hunting a contest or have a pile of places to hunt the the 20 min thing might make sense.

I agree. I went 45 mins on today’s sit because it’s a pressured spot and because I only had 3 stands today. No yote but got in at 45 min mark.

Hello, new to hunting and just curious. What's the point in hunting coyotes other then thinning out the herd packs. Don't get me wrong I don't have a issue with it. I know it's not for the meat cause nobody eats dog.
@OutdoorsAnonymous
@OutdoorsAnonymous 2 года назад
Hey Chris, some people actually eat em lol there’s a video of Steve Rinella eating one too, honestly once you smell em while your skinning it you probably won’t wanna eat it 😂 But yeah main reasons people hunt them is probably predator control, defending your livestock, farm, helping out a deer population in your area etc. another big reason is they are classified as furbearers and their fur is processed and sold. Most that sell fur though will probably be trapping them as it causes less damage to the fur than shooting and fetches higher $.

I kill roughly a 100 a year. Here’s a sequence for ya on your revolt that you’ll find more successful. Sook long howl 30sec to 1 minute pause Baby cottontail demise for 3 min 30-sec to 1 minute pause Cottonball 3 minutes 30-sec to 1 minute pause TNT 3 minutes 30-sec to 1 minute pause Star long howl 1 min pause MrT long howl 1 min pause Play these 3 pups 1 sequence all in a row. No pause in between Pup pillage Pup chaos Schoolyard brawl You should be playing pup distress to end every stand whether you’ve shot something or not. I’ve probably killed 500 coyotes at the end of s a stand to pup distress. It’s a 100% must do if you want to be a successful coyote hunter. You’ll also make the coyotes more at ease by starting your set off with a howl. If you want to target bobcats target bobcat by getting in close and playing high pitch distress sounds but if you’re coyote hunting start with a howl. It’ll increase your success a lot.
@OutdoorsAnonymous
@OutdoorsAnonymous Год назад
Awesome dude thanks a lot for the insight and sharing your experiences and these sequences! I’ll be sure to give these a try this season. I usually play pip distress right after a shot. Question, what’s the thought process behind always starting off with a howl or two vs just starting with a prey distress?
@Coyotekillaz
@Coyotekillaz Год назад
@@OutdoorsAnonymous Single non threatening female howl. Coyotes are very cautious animals and hearing another coyote in the area relaxes them to outside risk . You go in to prey distress and it sounds like another coyote that doesn’t belong is in the area hunting and eating. Coyotes are very territorial. Your prey distress by howling first can trigger two of the four things that trigger a coyote. Hunger instinct and territorial instinct. The other two are maternal instinct to protect pups and the last is sex drive during mating season. I’ve called in several just to that first howl. Obviously this is for targeting coyotes. My setup and sequence changes completely when im targeting bobcat. Bobcat stands are 30-45 minutes of nothing but prey in distress and are very tight to dense cover. Most of your stands arent set up for bobcat so why not start with a howl when targeting coyotes. You’re not going to call a bobcat 300 yards across an open field. Go follow my tik tok page Coyotekillaz9 . I’ve been hunting coyotes for 30 years
@Coyotekillaz
@Coyotekillaz Год назад
@@OutdoorsAnonymous And still keep playing your pup distress after the shoot. Switch that up occasionally and play coyote fight sounds after the shot. Also a great way to call back the other coyotes after a shot. I never get up before 30 minutes. And if the land has been pressured I’ll stay up to an hour. I killed a cutie last week at the 51 minute mark of the stand.
