The Enhanced Evolution precon from commander 2020 is all about Sultai and its commander, Otrimi, the Ever-Playful. The deck wants you to jam this amazing mutate commander onto evasive unkillable creatures, and we can completely smash our opponents with just a few simple budget cards.

Silent Arbiter looks like it’s to prevent swarm blocking and keeps wide boards off you. You’re voltroning so you only really attack with one creature. Put menace in otrimi with arbiter out and he’s unblockable. Barracuda definitely take out... and goes right into Kadena

As absolutely far fetched as it seems, I would very much love to see this guy get mutated onto a Vraska, The Unseen's assassin, the one with the ability "when it deals combat damage to a player they lose the game"... Highly unlikely, but I'd still love to see it. Also a fun fact playing against mutate, if Etrata the Silencer gets through and exiles the mutated creature, if it had at least 3 creatures on the pile, Etrata exiles each creature individually with a hit counter and they lose the game then and there :)

Wouldn't the elvish visionary be 1/1 with Otrimi under it cause it's the top creature? So any copies would just be 1/1 with trample draw cards on etb and return mutate from yard on hit. Can you explain how the copies are 6/6?

Silent arboter is acrually pretty legit here. You are into creating one owesome Otrimi to attack with, you dont really care about any other things. It prevents you from getting smaahed with tokens which this deck is prone to. For the same reason propagamda was put here

Yeah I feel like it's cool, but having better removal kinda shores up the "you might get hurt" side of things. Maybe there are good creatures to mutate on with better abilities

Guys i think you repeatedly misrepresented what mutate does. If i have an elvish visionary with otrimi mutated UNDER it, then I have a trampling, card drawing, graveyard retrieving, fricking 1/1, not a 6/6. And if i have an otrimi mutated OVER an elvish visionary, Then I have a trampling, card drawing, graveyard retrieving, LEGENDARY 6/6, that as such can't be cloned. You are correct in the fact that clones are good with mutate, but not in the way you described

SORRY AS WELL THE FIRST THREE CARDS YOU CHOOSE...SAVED MY ASS WHEN PLAYING THIS DECK...before any upgrades...if it was not for the enchantment, i would of died before my deck went off, but it slowed dudes roll, having to pay mana, then when it found an answer to it, i dropped the artifact....which slowed him up, so that i could get another mutate off that i needed, killing one of his bigger creatures to stop my trample, and then using the last card...TO STEAL HIS CREATURE AS A BLOCKER....and when the dust settled, i came out the winner, with 21 points of commander damage.

i took almost 20 cards out, adding more mutate. it needs much better ramp, its ramp right out sucks balls, but you cannot put all your carrots in one bag, mutate is the main win con, but this deck needed 3 win cons. Mutate, infest, and mix of HEX PROOF indestructible, and CANT BE BLOCKED!

I feel like silent arbiter should be here, because this deck is about suiting up one or two big creatures and attacking with trample. They will always get trampled over, and then you won’t get overrun by tokens the next turn.

Does the Hibernation Sliver actually work? He says all slivers have.... But if you put another creature on the top of the pile, perhaps a nightmare, it's not more a sliver,, just a nightmare and gives just this "lord" effect

Correct me if I'm wrong. When you mutate something on top of hibernation sliver, you can't use the activated ability because the creature on top determines the creature type. So if the creature is not a sliver you can't use the activated ability, hibernation sliver has to stay on top which is not worth it imo for the 2/2 body

I'm really interested how strong this deck will be. Compared to the other commanders, this one looks very simple so I'm wondering if it's actually stronger than people think.

@@NitpickingNerds How well do you think it does against stronger decks which typically run more spot removal? Mutate as a mechanic is pretty vulnerable to that I guess (although it can't fizzle at least) so how well do the protection pieces perform?

I think the bad thing about the sliver is that it has to be the top card in order for it to be a sliver. So you're commander has to be a 2/2

You should add the manlands to the deck. They have an interesting mechanic where if you mutate on top of them they stay as creatures even at end of turn and if you mutate under they turn back to lands but are still mutated and have all their effects even when lands. They all have relevant abilities too. The blue green one is a hexproof 3/3, the blue black one if an unlockable 3/2 and the green black one is a 2/3 deathtouch. They're all pretty cheap too I think the most expensive the Creeping Tar Pit at like $4

Ikoria is out here in Japan. I pulled a foil Fiend Artisan and a showcase tri-land that are both going directly into my Muldrotha deck. I did not pull a Death Corona but I will remain vigilant.

Even if I'm kinda late I'll drop a comment: Cloning a mutate pile is absolutely insane, because it will copy the top card with all abilities of the bottom cards. Definitely what I'll try to do with my upgrade, the only X card that will remain in this deck will be altered ego!

Titan's Nest actually delves colored non-X spells, I thought it worked on X spells too, still pretty nuts: Titan's Nest 1BGU Enchantment At the beginning of your upkeep, look at the top card of your library. You may put that card into your graveyard. Exile a card from your graveyard: Add :◊. Spend this mana only to cast a colored spell without X in its mana cost.

When this deck got spoiled people hate mutate they say its bad. I told them what if you got to cast mutate over and over through out the game for the value it has. I am going bounce because I see the value on these cards even if the target is blown up and it still comes out. I love it.

Masked admirers is a slow way to recur a creature to make sure you always have something to mutate. It provides okay presence on board and can draw 1-3 cards per game.

Guys great video on this one, I was really not interested in this commander when I looked at the spoilers.. but you guys have taken it into a rather powerful route. Will have to keep an eye on this one. Are either of you planning on building one of these new commands for your personal collection? ... Also shout out for Xenagos the POWERFUL... ;)

thoughts on playing Brokkos instead of Otrimi in your command zone? it's less flashy but it seems more consistent.

Eh, they are very similar but Otrimi is cheaper so it basically gives you an extra hit. But also obviously harder to cast next time unless you just make some unstoppable monster anyway!

Insane stuff to Mutate onto! A good place to look for other ideas are Ezuri Claws of Progress or Volrath tiny toolbox nonhuman creatures. Cultivator of Blades Glen Elendra Archmage Endling Blight Mamba Marwyn, the Nurturer Cauldron of Souls Also how does this Mutated Commander and die triggers work. Like mutated under Roalesk, Apex Hybrid? Where do the creatures go? Into the command zone?

I added all the mutations that are in the colors, kept a the "hydra" theme, because a 12/12 16/16 comander damage trample is dirty. Went copy and clone route, with infect. Works so far, spent way too much upgrading the 3 precons I bought.. still have more cards coming.. My wife is not happy lol

How about stuff like Ornithopter? Gives Flying access for 0 mana Mmm.. I'm super hesitant to go with the Mutate route for this deck, gives me Aura Enchantment vibes - if they can play targetted removal when we don't get Hexproof, getting multiple cards for one of their cards.

You can play muldrifter for its evoke cost and then mutate something on top of it to cancel the sacrifice trigger. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure mutate gets stack priority

How would you get the mutated creature on there? It would need flash, but I think the mutated creature even then still has a triggered ability to sacrifice itself

It will gum up opening hands and prevent you from progressing, and that huge downside outweighs the +1 mana upside when you draw it late in the game

The problem with the temple is, that he looks good. For example you have a starting hand with two lands, temple and four playable cards. It looks fine. You will draw the two missing lands and then it's three turns later and you've drawn one land and discarded a ton, cause of the starting four playables in your starting hand, there was only two cards for one or two Mana

just switch the commander to zaxara and add freed from the real or pemmin's aura. infinite mana from the command zone (along with shroud if it's pemmin's aura).

Nitpicking Nerds ...didn’t know about kalamax. Guess we’ll make that 4 legendary creatures. Virda and kinnan both go infinite with the monoliths, virda by making the untap cheaper and kinnan by adding a mana they produce.

I think I'd trade out the ever playful for the legend from ikoria that let's you mutate from the graveyard as it makes it easier to trigger mutate effects

@@NitpickingNerds No lie, since the mechanic was first spoiled I have been obsessively brainstorming ways to abuse it. Not necessarily with what to mutate onto or with, but more in terms of combat tricks or self protection. Rather than bounce a Mutated creature, I recommend flickering it instead. Because all the creatures in the mutate stack come back as individual creatures. So a Mutate deck can function as both a Tron deck *and* a Go-Wide. Additionally, I'm being careful of what cards with ETBs I add, as once I flicker they'll all trigger simultaneously. One I'll be adding is Altisaur because wiping the board with a 10/10 repetitively, with no downside, is pretty sick.
