Enhancing Hornby's A2/2 and A2/3s model railway locomotives 

What an absolute gem of a video. I'd recommend trying Rocket Card Glue for the name plates as a) it's not stringy, b) it doesn't eat into the plastic c) the name plate can be briefly manipulated so it is straight and true d) it's water based so can be removed with water if needed.

Surprised that there's no mention of the other major disappointment that is Hornby's persistence with the toy train rear pony truck. They call it smart engineering, most call it BS.

Very well-done Tony and Geoff on producing enhanced models of the A2 from the donor Hornby engines. Marvelous work by the both of you for running the respective trains of coaches and wagons. So, the burning question Tony is where did the finished Earl Marshall model end up as its home, for the rest of its working life after filming had stopped?

Excellent video. I use undiluted PVA to attach etched plates on my models and any I do for other owners. Not had one fall off so far. To me, Evostik is too messy for this task.

Can you put steam leaks from the Thompson cylinder area ;-) Or in a siding at Little Bytham having failed ;-)

Why oh why was the A2/2 allowed to leave the factory with the livery like it was? I was really disappointed as it looked nothing like the artwork that advertised the models. I sent mine back. The A2/3 was slightly better. Never-the-less very handy tips Tony!

I replaced the nameplates on my Thane of Fife with etched versions, makes a massive improvement, but I am just wondering how easy it is to reduce the length of the molded name backing plate on the A2/2 if you wanted to rename the loco with a shorter etched nameplate?

Is the Hornby nameplate printed on ?

Hi Tony !! In the states we pronounce it DEE CAL [ rhymes with 'bee pal' ] and not 'DECAL' [ rhymes with 'freckle' ] as you Brits pronounce it !! Tho I'm not saying who's right, I would imagine decals are a US hobbyist's invention.. But maybe that's not so, either. Anyway, I enjoy your videos and Little Bytham allot.....

what's the obsession with a matt finish? ex works locos were gloss finish. Swindon locos had many layers of gloss varnish on top of final paint coat.

"Simple things that anyone can do" Yeah but what if you haven't the money for any of the equipment shown or are rubbish at painting?

Color mixing UK style. why make it simple and effective when you can do it conplicated and ineffective Typical British.
