If you like the bass and want a racing stripe, then you've already got your next mod project & video idea. ✌️ I suggest masking tape to mark off the stripes, and using acrylic paint. Vinyl stickers look great, too.

Sticker could be a good try!

@@NotThatCoolKid you can get adhesive vinyl in either removable or permanent varieties, and in nearly any color you can imagine. You can cut it yourself in any thickness you desire. The downside of vinyl is that it can peel up. The downside of paint is that it can chip off. I've had good results with both.

Well done. I am mainly a pick player on bass (the thumb rest like yours would be in the way for me) but on my hot rodded Squier (early 2000s, Duncan Designed pickups, gold/copper aftermarket pickguard, Fender Hi Mass Bridge, CTS pots, Ace Hardware chicken head knobs) on my purple sparkle bass, I decided to add a thumb rest because I have flatwounds on it. I am a bit of a "Bass-ic Bitch" when it comes to bass (I am mainly a Rhythm guitar player and singer) so I mainly just keep to root notes (guitarists love that, I wonder why) and play in the pocket with the drummer (they love it too, go figure). So on my bass (Squier Precision Bass but with P/J pickups and a Jazz style neck, yeah it's stock) the Duncan Designed pickups fit (with some filing in the J pickup cavity) but the P pickup did not really like me using that as a thumb rest. So my thumb rest went right above the P pickup at a slight angle (looks good and it works well when playing on a strap) because I just got used to doing that since I have two P Bass style basses. The advantage for me on this is that the thumb rest is out of the way if I want to use my pick. I tend to move where I am picking around (towards the neck it's warmer and towards the bridge I get more attack and bite) to tailor my sound when playing live. So right above the pickup was the sweet spot for me. Fender DID (not sure if they still make them) make pickguards with the extra holes drilled into the pickguard for a thumb rest (but not the body) but the few times I saw that in the past (late 90s, early 2000s) they were not in areas I would have used it. My Bass is named Honey because the pickguard changes colors from good to copper depending on the angle (pearloid) and it definitely brings out the yellow hues in the rosewood fretboard. The Duncan Designed pickups came off of a newer Squier Jaguar Bass and even with flatwounds, Honey can growl! I can still nail that Motown James Jameson sound on her and give it "a bit more bullocks" as the English like to say!😉👍✨

@@NotThatCoolKid Thank you. I actually think that playing bass too has made me a stronger rhythm player overall. How about you?🤔

I would have suggested that you learn better technique and practice first. I did the same thing as a beginner but realized as I progressed that it was unnecessary and just got in the way
