This unorthodox yet simple approach yields an extra CAD$3,789 (US$2,751) in annual savings from passive income on this part 2 of 3 video series (therefore no need for a side job to afford the boat), in addition to the CAD$3,960 (US$2,868) in yearly savings as demonstrated earlier in part 1: "Jack of all Trades" video. The combined savings are applied against my annually recurring boating expenses, providing me with the opportunity to enjoy boating sustainably all summer long for years to come on my beautiful 340 Sea Ray Sundancer :-)
The combined savings add up!
Shoutout to ‪@BoatingWithBoogaboo‬ for great boating videos including methods to save on boating expenses.

Wonderful video! This was super informative. Very cool how we can save money with different aspects including solar ☀️!

Glad it was meaningful to you and, indeed, sometimes we have options around us that we otherwise wouldn't think about that help us achieve our dreams, like I acheived mine.

The Kill A Watt meter is a great way to see just how much electricity we waste. I may have to get one of those myself! I am thinking that some things stay ON even when turned off so maybe I need to unplug them when not in use.

Absolutely correct my jet friend, phantom electricity there is. It all adds up and sometimes tending to it is like finding $100 on the ground once a month, or more in my case. The phantom electricity taken care of, plus solar panels, equates to my bill this month of negative -$18, lol, credited towards winter months. Makes for wealth preservation and higher purchasing power without additional effort. It’s like getting a raise. Means I can afford boating that much more :)) Let me know what you find if you decide to experience the kill a watt! Cheers!

Great video. I might buy one of the laser heat guns. We have a lot of cold spots in the winter. How much did the solar panels cost to install and how long before that investment is paid off with your savings?

Thanks! Yes, it's less costly to locate and then patch the sometimes unsuspected yet impactful cold zones instead of buying a heat efficient furnace. CAD$47k for the entire solar array, including $6k for the install, with tax, in Ontario, Canada. The way I look at the ROI is that the cash was sitting in an account, erroding away fast from inflation (losing its purchasing power) and I didn't want to risk it in the stock market, so it ended up on the roof as a hard asset (becoming a hedge against inflation) in the shape of solar panels that will keep generating safe and constant returns beyond my years, and it's in a form that I can't spent randomly like cash, lol. In my mind I've let go of the $47k and so, in that sense, solar is already paid off (for me). In addition, it will continue to generate revenues after it's paid and I don't worry about potential electricity cost increases (great peace of mind to have). But otherwise, roughly 12 yrs since inception before it's paid off, or in my case 5.9 yrs because it permitted us to switch from a gas vehicle to a used EV to charge at home, which saves us another ~$4.2k/yr (in gas and oil changes), which will be part of my 3rd and last video of this series.
