I'm sure you all know how it feels to learn something new each time we study. This year studying this block, I noticed something special in Omni 1:25-26. Amaleki's words of admonition are very specific to the events of his life. In v. 25 when he pleads with his readers to "come unto God, the Holy One of Israel, and believe in prophesying, and in revelations, and in the ministering of angels," that parallels the events in verses 12-13 when Mosiah and his followers were saved from destruction by prophesying, revelations and the power of God's arm. Then Amaleki specifically references 2 spiritual gifts; "the gift of speaking with tongues, and in the gift of interpreting languages" (v. 25). Why would he specifically use those gifts as examples of good gifts from God instead of any others? Look at the impact those gifts had during his lifetime. How did they impact the interactions and relationship between Amaleki's people and the people of Zarahemla (see, vv. 17-18). Also, Mosiah interpreted the stone of Coriantumr "by the gift and power of God" (v. 20). How special to Amaleki was the information contained on that stone? Amaleki had lived a life filled with testimonies of how important it is to stay close to to God and "partake of his salvation" (v. 26). He watched what happened to his own people who fell away and were destroyed. He learned about the Jaredites who fell away from God and were destroyed. And, he saw the pitiable condition of the people of Zarahemla (Mulekites) who didn't know God even though their ancestors had. To me, all this makes Amaleki's words so much more powerful - "come unto [God], and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him... and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved" (v. 26). It's not just a powerful and true verse of scripture... Amaleki has lived it firsthand.
Thank you so much for making my studying interesting and fun! You really brought these scriptures to life for me. I liked how you tied the Book of Mormon scriptures to the Old Testament and other world historical events in the same period. It helped me better understand why some prophets may have written what they did. I also appreciated that you took the extra time to carefully go through each of the scriptures. There was a lot of wonderful content that would have otherwise been missed.
Fullmer Brothers, One pattern I have noticed is you stressing the importance of reading the scriptures and not taking your videos for scripture reading. Might sound simple but it is essential and a eternal principal. What a grand addition to our Come Follow Me weekly studies.
hey im first that makes me happy thanks for all you do for us its so nice it makes me happy in times like this we dont know what will go on one day to the next but this i know will be here every week thank you
yes, you guys are awesome! Yes you are doing your job right for it makes me want to go straight to the Scriptures and study and you make that very interesting and fun. Thank you for this… Please keep posting your videos. It is great for singles especially.
I didn't notice the part about Mosiah and Messiah. Mosiah has the same ending as Isaiah (which is the Arab or Aramaic form of the name). Where Isaiah or Yashayahu means Yahweh is Salvation, Mosiah could come from Moses (and is similar to Moses in the OT) and mean Moses is Salvation or on whom the people can find salvation. Remember that Messiah means Anointed One. Messiah or MSIH is a name commonly used among Egyptian Copts (Egyptian Christians).
First verse of language of his father. We know the was modified but we also know that when the records of the Jaredites were found it was written in the ancient language of his fathers. So Enos is preserving the ability to read those records.
Hey guys, great work overall. Appreciate the time and effort you put into these. Love listening. I recommend you read "The Lost 116 Pages" by Don Bradley. His brand new research is a game-changer. In it you'll find out that 1) the number of lost pages was likely around 300 pages, & maybe even 400. 2) You'll learn new insights about the age & symbolism of the Sword and Laban. 3) You'll learn about the Nephites fleeing from the lamanites to Zarahemla. & 4) you'll learn more about the Mulekites & Mulek. Plus much more. Things that you'll need to update your content over. Some of your content is now likely errant &/or obsolete. Anyway, highly recommend. If you're serious about the Book of Mormon, you can't afford to not read that book. Cheers.
I appreciate you enthusiasm for Don Bradley's new book. I have read it and we've talked about it on a previous episode. I had meant to mention it again on this episode but had forgotten to do so. Thanks for making others aware of it. Despite the wealth of information in the book, there are many assumptions and exploration of sources that historians continue to debate the reliability of - including Francis Gladden Bishop and Fayette Lapham. Although I am certainly intrigued with Bishop's connecting the Sword of Laban with Egyptian origins (pg. 140-141) and very compelled by Lapham's unintentional insights into the story of Mosiah (pg. 252). Emer Harris' estimation of 200 missing pages (instead of 116) has got better provenance than the series of assumptions that would predict 300-382 missing pages (although, again, it is an interesting thought exercise (pg. 92-96)). These are interesting things to think about but are generally outside the scope of our show. If you think any content from our show is "errant &/or obsolete" I hope you would offer a specific example from the show, especially as it relates to the scriptures. We certainly want to get it right.
I would like to mention that Emma Smith and Oliver Cowdrey both mentioned in their journals that Joseph would spell the names rather than try to pronounce them. That's why we have Nephi pronounced with an "F" instead of following the Egyptian way with the "PH" pronounced as a "P" and an "H". In short, NEP-HI would mean the good or beautiful child. I see the point you made about Mosiah instead of Messiah. Remember that Messiah is the English way of saying it which reflects somewhat of the Semitic way of saying it. Mosiah (with all letters pronounced) would be the way Messiah is pronounced. In short Mo-syah. Where Mosiah would be the name "follower of Moses". And Moses is like unto the Son of God in that he saved Israel and Mosiah saved the Nephites (as you mentioned). I think it would be nice to revert to the proper way of using Messiah and not the Greek.
He does (kind of), but it's out of print. Amazon typically has used copies, though: www.amazon.com/Other-Heroes-Mormon-James-Fullmer/dp/160861462X/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=other+heroes+of+the+book+of+mormon&qid=1585411919&sr=8-1

How old would Enos have been? I’m a little confused because even if Jacob was born late in the journey through the wilderness and lived to 80 and fathered Enos at 80 and Enos was now 80 I can’t make it add up to 179. Just curious.
We did just kind of gloss over that, didn't we? Well, if it helps, there are two schools of thought on the subject. One is that Jacob had Enos very late in life (Paul Nolan Hyde suggests Jacob was 75: archive.bookofmormoncentral.org/sites/default/files/archive-files/pdf/hyde/2016-08-11/05_paul_nolan_hyde_enos_2015.pdf [specifically, page 10]). This would still mean that Enos would have had to have lived to be over 100. Not unheard of. The second school of thought is that while Jacob tells us that he hands the plates to his son Enos, Enos (in the book of Enos) never mentions the name of his father. This could mean that Enos is not a DIRECT son of Jacob, but a descendent. It's possible, for example, that Enos' father was also named Enos. The short answer is, as it is most frequently when talking about the scriptures: we don't know. There's been no revelation on the subject, and until there is, we'll just have to speculate. Good question, and thanks for watching!
@@jonfullmer4387 Ha! Ha! My father, Keith Nuttall was a golden gloves champion, I met Gene Fullmer as youngster...so just wondering. He was a good man. Thanks for your presentations.
John and Jay, please stop using that fantasy map with the narrow neck of land patterned after the Daniel H. Ludlow and John L. Sorenson map of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, tilted 90 degrees to the right. Your presentation is promoting the Mesoamerican model of the Book of Mormon. The church is neutral on geography. You can't be neutral and promote one theory over the 150 other documented theories on Book of Mormon Geography. Also, note that the narrow neck of land and the east and west sea was not mentioned until over 500 years AFTER Lehi and his family arrived in the promised Land. That is because they landed on the Gulf Coast and retreated northward to avoid the Lamanites who wanted to kill them and destroy their record. Eventually they discovered the Mulekites and the Great Lakes (east and west seas). Like the Jaredites, the Nephites ended their civilization on the same hill Ramah/Cumorah. Ether 10:20 completely destroys the Mesoamerican model. The Jaredites built a great city by the Narrow neck of land where the sea divides the land--a perfect description of the Great Lakes. Mesoamerica is just the opposite where the land divides the sea. 20 And they built a great city by the anarrow neck of land, by the place where the sea divides the land. Also remember that the Jaredites spent 4 years gathering the people for the final battle. If it happened in the area around the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, they could gather in a few weeks or months, not 4 years! The Book of Mormon is True and it testifies of Christ and it happened in America!
I appreciate your passion Bruce but I think your comment should be tempered with the statement that you yourself made - "You know the church is neutral on Geography." That is why we use the Church's internal map from the seminary materials. It is safest to use Church materials while also understanding that they are just intended to be a tool and not a final statement. You seem to be insisting on a final statement - your belief. We will continue to stick with Church materials.
Like we often says, if walk like a duck, quack like a duck, it must be a duck. There are more physical evidences in USA than anywhere else for the BoM location.
The fake cartoon map only makes the BofM look like fiction as that map does not exist. We know hill Cumorah is in up state NY and that the Nephites moved eastward after 4th Nephi towards Cumorah. We know that the land had a great change at the death of Christ and all of the geographic descriptions were made before that.
I appreciate your frustration but it's important to us to use Church materials for our lessons (you can find a link to the map in the description). And, I think there is wisdom in using the internal map until the Lord reveals more about where these events took place. Yes, we know where the plates were hidden and Mormon describes the lands of the book 3 hundred years after Jesus Christ visits. Those are all important clues. If you are interested in a scriptural overview of the Church's map that we use, here is a video I made on the subject: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9Y4Pex90IbI.htmlsi=AaMBQOvkUoenMAKt
