The way how Carter moves from a grouping of instruments (triple duo) to another one is astonishing. This piece is one of the sources of his evolution. Thje issue of dissociation/ recombination has always been a driving factor in his work.

Gérard, You recommended this piece to me last week. I just listened to it and like it very much. I love small ensembles and will listen to it more. It inspires me to go back a couple of centuries and listen to a few movements of the Schubert Octet. You also recommended Messiaen. I chose the Turangalila Symphonie conducted by Dudamel. It premiered a few weeks before I was born. Again, you have superior taste. I have listened to about half of it. The sonorities are astonishing. I am a not a musician but my ears are always open. My pick for you would be the Dvorak 8th, Vaclav Talich, 1951. I was in tears. Recently, with popular music, I love and have fallen in love with (don't tell my wife) Natalia Lafourcade. If you haven't already you are in for a treat.

Thanks so much !!!!!! About popular music, I can only suggest to you to be interested in Bartok's approach in the 1900-1910. In his heart, some form of "social" love for his people and highly complex musical theory mere in an absolutely outstanding way.

Another masterpiece. I'm not a musicologist but the mood of this piece harkens back to Webern opus 6, of which there is a performance by the Ensemble Contemporain.

About Webern, an interesting reference could be his 'Concert' op. 24.

I always find it so amusing in nonsense such as this to watch a conductor flap his wings in a certain traditional pattern (e.g. at 3:32 in 3) with the "music" having no hint aurally of 3 anywhere.
