You read my mind bro ahahahah. I don't think these kind of lyrics suits 'em perfectly, but I'm glad these song sounds almost like early Ensiferum (there's only more clean vocals, but it's ok)
This song reminded me of twilight tavern, glad to see they are sticking with their roots yet putting a little twist on the new sound. Excited for the new album!
Pekka (Montin) is a great fit for Ensiferum. I really liked his clean vocals on this track! Go, Pekka, go... \,,/ Preordered the boxset + one of the limited vinyl editions through Levykauppa Äx (ltd to 100 copies only).
@@Kionage I thought the same exact thing! That tempo/key change towards the end was very similar to twilight tavern, looks like they are staying with their roots.
Damn that's a fast one! Absolutely epic as always, can't wait to hear the whole album. Already preordered the CD boxset and the numbered golden vinyl before hearing this single.
@@TruueMetal go listen to wintersun if you want "true" classic ensiferum. Its literally their old singer/songerwriter/guitarist who was practically the band.
@@eh8432 I consider classic Ensiferum to be the first 3 albums. And Markus contributed much more towards the songwriting in the first two "Jari era" albums than Jari did.
You guys are marvelous as always. Do not worry about lyrics, everyone knows how beautiful your touch on songs; with warm hugs from Turkey!! keep hammering!!!
I love this band it was my first metal band ever and i listen to them to this day they are the best band ever thye give me a unique energy. They put me happy when im in a bad day love them
@@Nopeahuoli1 These Clean Vocals are definitely a fine new Element. I was surprised of it. The Track is in my opinion the best since Years. I still love the First 2 Albums the most
It's cool, it sounds so different somehow from older Ensiferum. I guess they're evolving in a different direction. As for the lyrics though... lol. I mean, of all the topics to do a song on.
I am not a fan of the principle of letting journalists piss you off enough to influence your way of composing songs, but the fact is that this song kicks ass ! A "From Afar" wibe ! And as "From Afar" is one of your best albums for me, it is really cool !
@@cthuludreams1 Yep, especially a drinking song. But I have to agree with Erwin : i still feel as if the verses were lacking something, as if they didn't mean as much as the chorus does. Imo the song remains good though, but I was expecting a bit better from Ensiferum
Perfect timing on this new release! I like it...its always been a toss up if Ensiferum or Wintersun was better...but Jari has a good thing going there and I can't wait to see how he counters this! We need Time part 2 lol 😎
I never understood why people say "today's music sucks" or something along those lines. If anything I think we're living in the golden age of music because we have access to all the past music, plus we have Ensiferum.
it really looks like Ensiferum met Alestorm an entire weekend and recorded some of their jams. It feels a little strange because I miss something like "eternal wait" or like any song from Iron or Victory Songs. Anyway, it's a pretty good
Been listening to Ensiferum for over 10 years, I don't understand how anyone could say this doesn't sound like classic Ensiferum. Sounds like it could have come from Iron/Victory Songs era.
Missed this sort of stuff from you guys. Alestorm inspired lyrics? But the music is totally Ensiferum (and a bit Rhapsody of Fire in the middle there?)
This song is pretty good tbh, can't wait for Väinämöinen Part 3, I hope it sounds much more like the first album instrumentally it sure seems like it!
@@umosay Strange you feel that way. From Afar used an array of orchestrations and One Man Army had a terrible mix and a completely different approach to the recording/ production process. This album marks a return of keyboards which we haven't really heard since Unsung Heroes and the return of the same producer and studio with which worked upon Victory Songs. Plus the fact it's essentially straight up Power Metal which was most evident upon Victory Songs.
I wasn't too thrilled about the last few albums, but this gives me high hopes. Like holy crap! Also, I never would have expected Kotipelto doing guest vocals here.
I've heard this song about 20 times and this will be my honest opinion on it: I'm really happy that Ensiferum are finally sounding like they used to, they really nailed it with those epic and fast riffs. But these lyrics... man... It's just 4 minutes of nonsense bullshit about fighting, self-questioning, rum and women(?). Is this what the music industry demands these days? You can do a lot better than that.
My thoughts exactly. Thought I was listening to Alestorm for a second. I do like that they brought back their sound though. Let's see how the album turns out.
The biggest difference separating 'Thalassic' from the rest of Ensiferum's catalogue comes from the fact that it's the first of their albums to be built around a theme. "The idea of it started to brew in my mind when I was doing interviews for 'Two Paths' and many journalists asked if it was a theme album, and I noticed that I was answering all the time that because of the way we compose it's almost impossible to make a theme album. This really started to piss me off and the decision was made: the next album would have a theme. At that time, we already had a few songs almost ready for the next album, and I started to listen to the demos much more from the feeling aspect instead of analyzing them musically. For some reason, all of them took me to a seashore, and the theme was found: something related to sea or water. So I started to read about history, myths and legend around the world that had something to do with the theme, but even though all of the lyrics are obviously inspired by this, I tried my best to keep Ensiferum's heroic mentality in them. In the end, there were too many ideas for lyrics, because I didn't set myself any boundaries - like all stories would have to be Nordic, etc, and one of my favourite songs on the album tells about Andromeda from Greek mythology. I can't promise that this way of lyric-writing will be the future of Ensiferum, but at least we did this once." - bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka
@@metalbladerecords I think you're missing my point. I am not criticising the fact that Thalassic is a theme album, I am actually very fond of that idea! What I am criticising is the fact that the lyrics and title for this song in particular seem to be very plain, as if someone just said "Well, let's just write something very basic while including some keywords that seem to work for other folk metal bands". I'm not against songs about women or drinking (I really love both things), actually "One More Magic Potion" is one of my favourite Ensiferum songs! But that one makes sense as a whole. On the other hand, after commenting I took a look at the titles of the other songs in the album and they look very promissing! Can't wait to listen to Cold Northland! Please don't take my comments too personally. I really respect your work (Metal Blade and Ensiferum) and I'm sure you know how to write and produce an album 10000x better than I do. Just felt like sharing my opinion and I can't wait to listen to the full album (and hopefully attend a Thalassic tour concert). Stay safe and folk shit up!
How so? Sound is exactly like Ensiferum...If we go down that road then what about Whispered finnish band singing about samurais? Dark Oath, portueges band singing about vikings?
@@Vahisofficial I wasn't talking about the sound, but the lyrics and it's not about bands of different countries singing about stuff from other countries. I was referring to the fact that Ensiferum usually have lyrics about battles and Finnish mythology. Therefore these lyrics came across relatively strange to me. However I admit that the whole album seems to revolve around the sea and pirates, so in this case the lyrics make sense.
Shitstorm should have been what Alestorm called its new album as it's a giant steaming pile of it. This new single has me really looking forward to hearing the rest of the album now.
@@davesbirdoscrittersandbits235 I'm not into this jolly folk metal that Alestorm is known for, anyway, so I will definitely skip their new stuff, anyway.
Well to be fair, this isn't the first time Ensiferum has gone elsewhere with their lyrics. They went American Wild-West for a few songs in From Afar and Iron.
Wow! Everyone knows that first album is fucking goddamn masterpiece, even with Jari on "Iron" they couldnt do the same that they did on "Ensiferum", but last album is very good too! So if new album is same cool as "Two Paths" it will be awesome!
Ensiferum was the first metal band I ever heard by an accident xD I wanted to buy some medival rock and liked the cover of their "victory songs" album , so I buyed it - without knowing what kind of music this is - and loved it - glad to hear them coming back to their old style :) but I absolutly dont like the clear vocals in it ^^*
This title contains the 3 WORDS that we worship we the pirats, the vikings, the rockers, the cowboys, the tavernists, the rebels, the die-hard, the womanizers, the drunkyards & the metal heads
*makes a rum drink* Hey, rum with pure lemon juice is actually quite nice! I think I'll have another one. *a few drinks later* RUM! WOMEN! VICTORY!!!!!
Lyrics could be more innovative, but it's still awesome and some of their best riffs/solos ever, hopefully a back to the roots album for these guys \m/
