Ensiferum - Victory Song Reaction!! 

FINALLY!!! The greatest Viking folk Metal band of all time!

"This has been done before" Yeah. By these guys lmao. Them & Finntroll dropped their demos in the late 90s, then soon after in the early 2000s is when the other folk metal bands started to surface. (Korpiklaani, Turisas, Equilibrium, etc.) These guys really helped pave the way for folky, medieval-sounding metal.

This is the best song ever! I love the build up, you can practically see first a peaceful village, then enemies being spotted, people running to get their weapons, then finally horses galloping at full speed and arrows flying and swords clashing :) At the end people are telling stories around the fireplace for the next generation and sparks are rising to the night air. The song has it all; from the peaceful beginning and end to the thunderous action sequences and a blazing solo and the part in Finnish tugs the heartstrings like no other. I like to think the song is about Finland's history, the crusades and the winter war against Russia come to mind, so that adds to the emotional punch. This is one of the rare cases where such a long runtime is absolutely justified. Not a second is wasted.

ENSIFERUM - "HEATHEN THRONE I" + "TUMMAN VIRRAN TAA" + "HEATHEN THRONE II". These three songs should have been released as a single song IMHO, because they're a conceptual trilogy, and listening to them in sequence is an epic time!

AMORPHIS - THE BEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shoulda scored higher from Sori since her reasoning was that the theme had been done before. This was one of the XU essentials. These guys were one of the first bands to really do the viking metal as we think of it nowadays and still one of the most well known and recognized in that slice of bands that hit this style. Though when we did the folk metal vote I was really hoping for Skyclad who was THE first folk metal band, they just aren't as well known nowadays. If you look at when Ensiferum started, they were really one of the first to that "viking metal" sound. This is probably my second favorite from them (Deathbringer from the Skies is probably my number 1) but it really completely captures what the viking metal sound and thematic vibe is all about. Definitely a folk metal classic!

Ensiferum are one of the greatest Metal bands on earth!!!! They are also a killer live band! You should react to their brand new song " Rum, Women, Victory", it's pretty awesome and fun!

As far as "this has been done before" - Ensiferum were pretty pivotal for viking metal. They weren't quite first wave viking metal, but first wave viking metal was very steeped in the sound of black metal, where this is where the genre started getting away from that and having richer production and perhaps a bit more melodic focus. Ensiferum are an important band to the genre. And now for a recommendation for something new that I've been digging a lot recently. Fluisteraars - Nasleep

Classic folk metal. I love the first two albums with Jari, but hands down Victory is their best work. Speaking of Jari, we need some more Wintersun! Time (live rehearsal) or Winter Madness would be SICK

Also I am super happy to see you reacting to them, this is the album where Petri Lindroos took o we as a vocalist after Jari left to dedicate himself to Wintersun. Yeah, a better song to listen to for Ensiferum is Into Battle. Epic guitar work and riffs. Victory song is great, but long and complex and takes a bit of getting into.
