This whole channel is amazing. There is more information for cacti-growers here in several clips then all of the rest of the internet combined. I'm truly sorry authors of those wonderful and informative videos are no longer producing. I can only feel that the great deal of knowledge and experience are being lost...
I have learned so much from this well done video. I had great success in my grafting. I have watched this many times. For those who want it in English press the red CC button on the bottom of the Video the translation is much better. I am so sorry that she passed away, but this video will live Forever in my mind. Thanks for keeping this wonderful video posted! She must have been a great person to know. I loved her like family after watching this many times. Thanks!
@86el By doing this the grafting surface is covered till just before you put the seedling on. This will prevent the surface drying or get infected. But i don't think if you work quick that it is a neccessity.
I didn't understand a word you said, but I learned a lot. I have some pereskiopsis spathulata I'm going to use for rootstock soon - thankyou for the very informative video. :)
@AnTTunTT Yes, but very litlle preassure. Eevn without any preassure the seedling will hold most of the time. But with a litllepreassure the chances are better
If you grow them more in the shade and enough water, the Pereskiopsis gets softer including the spines. You can also wipe them off with a tissue or so before handeling the grafting stock
What light are you growing the pereskiopsis under, and how are you storing them after the graft? I'm currently debating between t8's, and 45 watt LED's from online.
@DRCEVNL - I've watched this video over and over.. am I right or am I wrong: there is no crossing vascular circles when grafting on pereskiopsis? OK, seedlings rarely have 'circle', its usually something of dot size, but it seems to me that Miss(?) Bouwman places seedling in the middle of pereskiopsis. I always cross circles when grafting 'bigger' plants, but my shaky hands give me really hard times when I try to match pereskiopsis' circle and seedling dot....
JEFFERSON SOUZA DA LUZ Hi Jefferon. Persekiopsis is suitable for all type of cacti, but as the grafting surface is small, you would usually graft seedlings or very small offsprings. Grothw is very fast on Pereskiopsis. At a certain moment the Pereskiopsis will fall down if the graft gets to heavy. But very usefull for fast propagation. Opuntia can take seedlings and small offsprings, but growth is condsidarable slower. This helps the graft to keep its natural appearance. So Opuntia is used for growing plants in a natural way. For south amarican grafts i would go for a south amarican Opuntia, for north american you better use a north amarican Opuntia. Hope this helps
DRCEVNL ICOMMON HERE IN BRAZIL 'S CACTUS OPUNTIA COCHONILIFERA IS THAT WAS INTRODUCED FOR CATTLE FEED MORE TO THE NORTH . THERE ARE OTHER Opuntias GROWING NEAR THE BEACHES WITH FEW THORNS . AND THANK YOU FOR PRECIOUS INFORMATION .
@ScipioAfricanus100 I have to find out how translations works. I will see what i can do, but it can take a while because the growing season has started
@AnTTunTT I dont think vascular bundeles are such a big issue on Pereskiopsis in most cases. I myself never noticed any difference (the only difference i have seen so far was in grafting Hatiora on Pereskiopsis, but i did not graft large entities of Hatiora, so i am not scientifically sure) . So i would not care to much :)
@mewtwoftw Sorry, i dont know what species moon cactus is, neither do i know the kind of stock called sme. If you decribe it a little bit more i maybe ableto answer your question. Or send me some pictures
