This video shows how to graft Euphorbia''s. English subtitles. Dutch spoken. Watch the milky juice (latex) of Euphorbia because it is very poison and will damage the skin! Don't touch your face or eyes while grafting! Very toxic!

Been in this hobby more than 30 years, and I've got to say: This is an EXCELLENT video! Both the instruction and the filmwork are top-notch. (The only thing I would add is on the topic of when to remove the rubber bands. Some people get a little nervous about removing them "too soon", or "too late". Well, better to leave them on longer than is absolutely necessary. But once you can see new growth in the grafted plant, definitely remove the bands before they impinge.) Thanks for this!

None of the plants shown look anything like the Euphorbia we know here in the U.S. We also call it Crown of Thorns. Amazing hedges of them in the warm parts of the country!

@pigknuckles211 The light is just sunlight, no atifical lighting. In winter there is artifical heating because it can cool down to minus 15 degrees Celsius outside.

..that I find so appealing in the subject matter. Are your plants subject to forced greenhouse conditons or could this kind of growth be acheived "passively"? just a question of curiosity.

yes the stem that was made to I suppose to insert into the other cacti is there, thats what it looks like to me and it has roots. I wonder without having to use such a large cactus could I somehow make it smaller and add it to a smaller stock as I believe its called. its so pretty the shape is I meant.

Hi Maggie, it is diificult for me to give you a good advice without having a picture of the plants and situation we are talking about. Maybe it is best to put your question with some photo's on a forum
@Cactusinformation
@Cactusinformation 12 лет назад
@pigknuckles211 The first plant that is shown is kept on it's own roots. The second one that is shown is a grafted one. These plants are grown in a greenhouse. I am not the owner of the plants but the person who is cultivating them will not force his plants in any way with fertilizer or so. If that is what you were questioning?
@Cactusinformation

Several places. Depends where you live. For Europe the ELK every year in Belgium is a good place to be. The more common ones can be bought in a Garden center.
@Cactusinformation

Cactus plants are from a different family of plants and will not grow on Euphorbia stock. But there are plenty of good stocks form the cactus family it self. Only Euphorbia related plants such as Monadenium will probably grow on Euphorbia stocks.

What is that song called that you have playing throughout the video? I've been trying to find it for years!
@Cactusinformation
@Cactusinformation 12 лет назад
@lowkeyisme23cliff Grafting is used in cases when you want faster grow or when the plant is difficult to keep healthy on its own roots. Grafted plants are easier to propagate by cuttings, flower often more easily and can be kept by less experienced people. For some of the rare species it is the only way to propagate fast (and thereby help to protect the remaining population in nature).

Hi Maggie you are probably not talken about an Euphorbia. Grafting a large barrel is not such a good idea, beacuse you will need an enormous grafting stem. If you are on the North hemisphere part of the world, probably the best thing to do is keep a dry till spring and not in the direct sun. Do you know what the name of the barrel cactus is?

@Cactusinformation

In general, when grafting, stock and scion have to be close family

this would take a barrel cactus to hold it up a large outside one.I have looked it over after I calmed down and it has about a 2-3 inch pointed stem on bottom and on one side its all dry and it looks like bronze roots.its late here so I have just put it back in the same pot it was growing in.I saw one of these about 6 months back just growing out of a pot so I thought what the heck Its this or doomed I have never grafted one and starting with this large of one I would probably kil both cactus.

Sorry, it took a little whiel to get the right answer. I checked on the expert. There is no need to graft this Euphorbia species. Cuttings are easy to reroot. Every branch will give a good looking complete plant again. If you really want to graft, the shown rootstocks will do and problably the best way is to use a split graft

English subtitles? I'm very disappointed! There are no subtitles. I have picked up a few words (cut, knife, alcohol, quickly, not, yes) only because I know a little German. Is there some way to turn on subtitles? I can't find an icon for it.

Hi Emilyann. At the bottom right you will see 5 icons. Select a low resolution (3th button) if you have a slow connection. The second button should give you the option of turning on the subtitles.

is it possible to graft euphorbia stellata to euphorbia milli ?
@Cactusinformation
@Cactusinformation 4 года назад
Hi, i think it would not be a good grafting stock for this specie. The beauty of E. stellate is partly in the massive root. They are not difficult to grow at all. Just use a larger container and you will see they will grow pretty fast

How do i prune this plant?
@Cactusinformation
@Cactusinformation 8 лет назад
+Sam Singh Hi Sam. I assume it is a big plant. I would be very careful. I would wear saftey glasses and gloves. Keep enough water nearby to flush away the poison white juice. If it is very big you would need tools like a saw. Like when pruning trees watch parts that suddenly break down, you may want to take precautions for that as well. The juice is very poison in some of these species and can work though the skin.
