yooooo Enter the florpus was an EXCELLENT movie, and a friend recently lent me some old jhonen vasquez comics (johnny the homicidal maniac and squee) so i was just itching to draw some fanart
it was a fun little challenge to emulate vasquez's style, but ultimately trying to do that as well as color it the way i did made it take FOREVER. if this video does well, it might be a good candidate for a slowpaint-- like and comment if thats something you want!

thank you, that means a lot!! im trying to focus less on the rendering aspect (i feel my shading has gotten a little too busy) and more on the composition, color choices, and texture

Watching all the colors come to life over the sketch feels like putting together the pieces of a puzzle- one bit at a time it all comes together to make the picture. I adore the brushes used for this one, almost like pastels or chalk. A very satisfying speed paint to watch, I like it. The painting is wonderful! There's a great sense of scale, and the expressions are very animated- well done.

I LOOOVE this piece!! So lively!! I also love the heavily relatable moment where you add the light source *after* highlighting stuff. Do you thumbnail these drawings, or just get an idea and then spend 6 hours on it?

thanks so much! i usually have a vague idea of what i want, and then play with the composition as i draw instead of doing thumbnails. i cut a lot of footage out during the parts where i was rearranging the composition

When I was younger I was all like oh I love kiwi’s art... they kinda have only one art style so I should be the same!! But as I grew i found I literally can’t do that and it’s so wonderful to find artists like you who also don’t try to stick to one boring brand!!!

Fun fact: the creator of Invader Zim took only one hour to come up with the show idea! Also: he had never animated in his life before that and had zero experience in cartoons! Only a comic book artist!
