It is lame and when I watched it as a kid in the 60s and 70s, I thought it was great, but now I view it all as lame except the Cavindish ambush.

P.S., what I mean is I find the Cavindish ambush fascinating.

Russell Roesner. I've no idea if Moore spoke like that on purpose (maybe directed to do so?) or what but you're right about how he sounds..flat monotone, etc. Who knows, maybe he or the director thought this type of delivery was appropriate to the strong silent western hero. You see this tendency with quite a few western hero types in old westerns. John Wayne tends to use slow flat delivery (the strong silent type), sometimes to the point that you wonder if he's being intentionally ironic or if he is even poking fun of the stereotype, but Clayton Moore takes it further than any old western star I've seen. My best friend & I loved this program as kids, mostly because we loved horses & Tonto. Ourselves Cherokee, we didn't see many Indians in films, as almost all were played by Italian-descent actors (or by Jeff Chandler) who didn't look any more Indian than an Anglo-Am. actor would've, so we were thrilled to see Jay Silverheels as Tonto. Too bad Silverheels was forced to be monosyllabic & to use such a silly accent, but even so, he seems more alive than his friend. If anyone in charge of the program had bothered to allow the Tonto character to be more than a shallow stereotype, they could've asked Silverheels to use an Indian accent, as he would've been familiar with the accents of older Indians who'd learned English as a second language. Besides, there is a common Indian accent still heard today, an accent heard among many native peoples. But silent follower or not, Tonto was shown as a kind, good, brave man, a man of honor who helped others & who kept his word...unlike most film portrayals of Indians in the '50s & before. (My best friend & I went to the movies every weekend so saw a lot of westerns, most of which showed Indians who were ruthless killers & savages, so Tonto was appreciated.) Besides, Silverheels looked a lot like my older brother & some of our cousins.

You obviously don't know what the hell you are talking about. For those of us who grew up watching The Lone Ranger, Clayton Moore was a hero. His voice was made to sound that way for the role he was born to play. He brought the character to life. The Lone Ranger was a hero and a pleasure to watch. I am 55 years old and I still love The Lone Ranger to this day. Please don't post any more assinine comments like this again.

The actor's name is Jay Siverheels and he was a full blooded Mohawk born on the Six Nations Indian Reservation. First Americans in the Arts honored him with a lifetime achievement award and he has a star in the Hollywood walk of fame. Not cringeworthy at all and seemed like a cool guy!

This show glorified respect and cooperation between the white man and the indian. Mr. Jay Silverheels was in fact the real deal, great actor, athlete and Native American. Modern woke douchebags mock the show as racist….that could not be farther from the truth.
