I really enjoyed the film, and credit to Malcolm for trying to be diplomatic, but I really think he could have handled this a lot better! Yes, putting his hands up is to show he's unarmed, but if I had to walk into a group of hostile apes, I sure as hell would not be making myself look bigger (the standard threat display for a LOT of animals). I think calling out long before I got close (so I don't surprise anyone or get mistaken for trying to sneak up on them), ditching the poncho once I got close (makes it easier to see I'm unarmed and makes me look small and non-threatening), getting down from the moment that first gorilla came out and asking to speak to the leader (since they've already shown they understand English), not trying to stand unless told to do so (shows respect and makes it more difficult for me to attack) and bringing some kind of gift (food or some kind of non-weapon metal tool they might like) seems like a better way to ask them for a favour than blundering into their home and continuing to blunder forward even when they're obviously not happy to see me.

Looking back at Dawn, Kingdom’s writing fell short. It wasn’t bad but, and for those who didn’t watch, spoilers ahead: The timeskip confused me. Was Noah just a random chimp who just happened to be destined for leadership of his clan, or was he Caesar’s descendant? I like him as a character, but his placement is pretty ambiguous. The times Caesar was mentioned also felt like a blueball. Proximus himself would’ve been a better villain if the connection to Caesar was more pronounced, like how did he learn only about Caesar’s war feats and not other things like diplomacy and mercy, and Rocka being killed off for shock value was an ungodly terrible decision in my opinion. Rocka following Caesar’s compassionate and merciful side and Proximus only paying attention to Caesar’s warmongering side was an interesting idea, but it also felt like a concept that didn’t take off.

Honestly, the best part of the second movie was this intro… then it became a cringe melodrama. Also, goddamn. Apes when they actually evolve ARE superior to humans… they’re can scream very loud, they climb better than us, they don’t need clothes and they don’t get sick easily.. and ofcourse they’re physically stronger than us.
