My husband and I were just commenting on how great quality your videos are. Never shaky or anything just really good quality. Great work. Keep it up . We're enjoying your adventures. :)
First, I just want to say thank you so much for sharing all your adventures. I am a solo female hiker with dreams of doing some long trails once my youngest is in college, but I confess that as it gets closer, I am finding that I am starting to feel a bit nervous about going alone. Watching you getting out there going on all these great adventures is inspiring and it's easing a lot of my fears, so thank you!! I also just wanted to let you know that they do make small resealable packages of freeze dried fruit and veggies (at least in the NE they do). Check in the candy isle, by the nuts, or in the organic section. One of my go-to hiking snacks is dried seaweed. It's super light and salty and goes great with cheese. Enjoy the trail!
Whoa, spring has sprung on the trail! Food would be the toughest part for me. I have never had peanut butter and tortilla and I don't feel like I am really missing out on anything. ;)
Coffee+Nature=Happiness❤ Getting tired of the same food/snacks does suck…I have friends who can seriously eat the same things day after day but I can’t do that…I have 2 different food dehydrators…one for meats and one for veggies and my brother has a freeze dryer so we make our own dehydrated food for camping and backpacking…nice to be able to use healthy ingredients and control the salt level…I do like what you were saying about having hiker friendly food station/shop/food truck…Made In Minnesota Spam is fine but best warmed up!
Your a wonderful camper and strong willed ! I’m learning from you . Thanks for all your effort to record and post as I know it can be difficult at times .
Hey Maddie I just resubscribed because I realized for some reason some of the channels I thought I was subscribesld to I wasn't! Your journey is really inspiring to me! Keep up the great work!
I hiked the smokies back in April. That second day is crazy hard! The section between Spence Field Shelter to Derrick Knob Shelter wiped me out. Good luck on your hike and keep up the great videos.
You're doing great, Maddy. Your happy disposition makes your videos a delight to watch. PS: if you can get yourself a wee titanium pan, you might find spam is more palatable fried.
If I'm not mistaken the Fontana Hilton was built in the late 1980s. When I thru hiked in 1990, there were I think 450 starters and 261 finishers that year and it was the highest number of finishers to date. I had Pop Tarts, Snickers and beer for breakfast usually. LOL Your idea about dehydrated veggies is good. I did that in 2002 for my hike but I dehydrated 1/2 a quart zip loc each of peas, carrots, tomato's, celery, corn and green beans and I just added a small handful of whatever I wanted to my meals. They added a lot of flavor and nutrition and lasted about 3 weeks before running out. I also cubed up some pepperoni and cheese, added a couple of packets of Italian Dressing from a hoagie shop and cold soaked my Ramen all day as I hiked and in camp, I mixed it all together for pasta salad. My name and FB site is Jim Adams. My profile picture is me in a purple fleece with my backpack on and my cat on top of the backpack. It is from my 1990 hike. I you want, drop me a note with a Post Office or Hostel you will be at in the future, give me about a 3 week plus lead time and I'll send you some dehydrated veggies. If you don't want to, I understand but the offer is there if you want it. geek A.T. '90 & '02, PCT '08
I have heard that you can soak a tent in a tub with vinegar and lemon juice for a few hours. Then let it air dry, before packing it away, to kill mildew spores.
We brought Spam on the trail for the mornings we woke up to ice. It was delicious fried. Mmmmmm.....😋 We tried it again once we got home and didnt like it at all. 😂 So funny how the trail can make some things extra delicious.
Your videos are so great! If I ever hike the AT again or want to do it fully, I think I'd start in ME and head to GA. The northern section looks so much harder than the southern section and I think I'd want to do the northern section while fresh.
I have a picture of the spot with the view where you ate just past Spence Field. It’s my background picture on my computer. It constantly begs me to come back. I have. Many times. - Jimmy Dean
I just want to get out and hike for miles after watching your AT videos.... (Mind you, this one also put me in the mood for BBQ!) Love seeing the signs of spring - all the spring beauty (little white flowers) and the way the trees in the valleys are green while they're still bare on the ridge tops. So cool!
Maddie.. Enjoying following you. Your video technique is excellent. A little thing : I enjoyed the way you keep recording the sound as you occasionally speed up the video. I enjoyed watching you carrying that coffee. Better balancing than I have. I talk to animals too. 😂. The goose. You seem to be having a wonderful time. Real. Thanks so much..
You are still doing amazing! You seem to be keeping your spirits pretty high overall. When we are traveling I do a terrible job of keeping track of days. Don’t be hard on yourself. Keep on trucking Maddie!
From Double Spring shelter north the moss rain forest is my favorite part of the southern Appalachian Trail! Enjoy 😊 Please listen to your body and don't push big mile days if you are tired. Overuse injuries will end your hike.
It's too easy to confuse days while you are out on trail. Be sorrowful to your friend but don't let it bother you, you have too many other things to fret about, especially in town... like Ale or my favorite Lager... preferrably a bock beer! Cheers Ranger!
Hey I don’t think you saw it but at the time marker 14:18 you walked by this really cool tree it just like stands out and looks super magical!! It’s amazing out there Maddie keep up the big mile days
😂😂😂hahah this is DEFINITELY a great episode to watch after watching a bunch of your near end videos ! Wow you are so upbeat and perky here and your backpack is so white! And your shirt 😅
I hiked Spencer mountain to Franklin section by myself in 2022. I want to do Smokies Newfound Gap to Franklin. Your video fired me up for getting off my butt. I’m 62 and it’s very tough finding people to go with so I go alone.
I hear some folks dehydrate their ingredients for soups and stew and fruit/snacks… and Mail supplies ahead to themselves. Suppose you could be that person who does it for others as a business 😊
Enjoying the Smokys vicariously through your lens. And yeah, forgive yourself for mistaking the dates/times withy your friend. Don't let it take away from the experience.
I’ve had so much practice with it now that I realized it’s all a matter of staking it just right! Before I was doing the guy lines (or whatever the strings are called!) just tight enough to hold the tent up, now I do them super tight and at just the right angle!
@@BeerinBeautifulPlaces thank you so much! I’ll check them out 😊 it’s really good that you wear a hat to protect your face from too much sun. My face and chest is where I have to keep getting treatments for pre cancer spots. I think back-of-the-hand protection is important as well. All my best to you!
@BeerinBeautifulPlaces well that's literally the smokies. Black bears and the families of that ran away with their AWOL husbands trying to escape the Civil War. That's the full trip.
I like following other hikers but they are way too “positive” most of time for YT and you seem much more “REAL” … you show all the different emotions of doing a thru-hike … thanks
