Thanks man! yea I tried that but I think the models where too low polly for auto smooth and I couldn't find a way to make a subdivision surface modifier work on only specific parts of the model but ill definitely have a look next time
@@CGWillB You should be able to select regions on the mesh, and subdivide or use poke face directly, if it comes down to it. It would likely be completely fine, but to be safe, if you don't like the outcome, just save the model that you're doing this on as a new version from the original.
