Return during operating hours , insisting to have someone with you while checking a truck , taking pictures and asking for signature ( proof ) that you returned truck in good condition . That is the only way to do business with them .
Who's going to rent from them, knowing this now. Unbelievable. He is not responsible for the third party car lot that the corporation has a contract with. That's ridiculous. He returned it to the location specified and returned the keys. What happens after that is not on him. Brutal business practices.
how does the guy know it was stolen with no evidence ....it could of been the rental place taking it and making a profit on any rentals left after hours.
I was going to rent a car from enterprise in Calgary, Alberta. I noticed damages as I walked around the car and wanted them to acknowledge the damages. They said they would not do a check with me so I bid them farewell and was pleased with "Rent a wreck"
Exactly. He returned it to a lot that Enterprise approved. If they don't like the security there, they should use their own or rent another one. They have ZERO right to hold _him_ accountable.
They’ve been doing this for years. Even after I stood there and watched them sign off my vehicle that afternoon they changed their mind and charged me 3500 they are shady af !!
I had an experience like this in the UK many years ago (before cat theft was common) after dropping a car off before the office opened in order to catch an early flight. The rental agency said it was damaged "underneath". The credit card company (Amex) reversed it immediately and it was over with.
This exact story happened to me. I was told no worries, put the keys in the slot. There was cameras, but Noone got caught. Someone needs to make them accountable!
No it isn't. @ 1:19. ALWAYS , ALWAYS , ALWAYS read BEFORE you sign... That's on him. If he read that, he would of probably not taken a risk and dropped the car off when they were closed and waited... His ignorance isn't an excuse..
@@lameloball2867 Did you even WATCH the video? Enterprise has a legal responsibility to make sure that the customer understands such a ridiculous clause. Enterprise DROPPED the claim and apologized. WHY do you think they did that? Maybe because they knew they didn't have a case?
replacing a cat is not $3500, Even replacing the entire exhaust is not $3500. maybe $600-700. Literally the easiest thing to do on a car, and its the first mod ppl usually do to their cars.
I wonder how many catalytic converters disappear from that lot before employees check in the vehicles. Perhaps the police should start checking company records.
Perhaps this audio mixing works well on TV, but watching this on my desktop computer with headphones, I find the shift between dialogue coming out of the left or right audio channel exclusively to be very distracting. I very much appreciate the investigative reporting CBC does, I just wanted to leave some feedback about the audio.
This is the exact reason why I DO NOT return a vehicle after hours. I'll bring it in the next day or if I'm done early, same day return. You should be honest with yourself and honestly estimate how long you think you're going to have that vehicle and return it when you can put the keys in someone's hands NOT a drop box.
after hour returning vehicle is nothing but a bait for ripping you off. These companies don't care about perception. The market is monopolized enough they get away from all kinda of abuses.
It would have been stolen if he had rented it that day or not so he shouldn’t be responsible and I’ve rented a lot of vehicles and they never tell you about that clause.
CBC has already done a documentary on how messed up the policies are for renting a vehicle from those types of companies. It is incredibly surprising considering how messed up those companies how detailed those were cups are for the information that they are even in business. Sadly this isn't surprising to me at all. And on top of that why are we so surprised that somebody would steal catalytic converters when considering we've had a crime spree across Canada of people stealing them.
We choose not to put cameras on the lot we use? Got to take a little bit of responsibility for their investment in the trucks. A few hundred in lights & cameras & this would never have happened.
One of the reasons I waited until business opened to return a uhaul truck. That, and who knows what other "damages" they'll say were there if you aren't. They even tried to claim I used kore mileage, but I had documented proof I was supposed to have more included. As for this situation, should have just stolen the same part from another truck one night and then brought it in to them the next day "here ya go, a brand new catalytic converter!"
Thank you , if you went to court , that would have been the first thing the judge 👩⚖️ would have said. Why didn’t you drop the truck 🛻 off Business hours.
1. Why won't the truck group's insurance agent pay for this? Was damage insurance not included in a separate contract? Or that one? 2. Also: where is the receipt to confirm the quoted amount is even accurate for any damages discovered? 3. What group claims was stated in the contract is much more specific than what the lawyer highlighted/quoted on her end. Could we please have a translator. ALSO: DON'T BACKDATE ANY CONTRACTS. A contract is VOID if its dates are TWEAKED from the future. Finally: 4. Was dollar amount written in Chinese. Or French.
Blaming the customer for using their unsecured rented lot is to do as instructed is like blaming the passengers of the titanic for getting on the ship. If they're so damn concerned about the total lack of security on their lot then they can damn well pay to secure the parking lot! It makes zero difference whether they're renting the lot or not, the fact that they pay rent on it makes the contents of that lot their responsibility, not the customer.
Years and years ago... I got charge $300 on my credit card for stains the car carpets. ( they claim it is grease stains) on the passenger side Carpet under the foot pad carpet.( which we did not check the carpet underneath the foot pad when I pick up the car) and no no one use the passenger side during the 3 days rental. But I drop off after hrs... and Budget had my credit card number and legal document to charge. It is totally hi way robbery... I protest but Budget and my Credit card company did not care... so have Budget rental again in our lives.
Literally had a situation like this with Alamo Car Rental in 2019 of the amount of 1500 , 😳😤🤬 .. Long story short .. take pics + video of the vehicle you get B4 YOU LEAVE THE THY CAR LOT AND DO THE SAME AFTER DROP OFF ! at least you will have some type of proof for them if needed 😔😔😔
@@th3namesadam968 I don't and I've been screwed as well..and it's my fault for not reading enough and asking enough questions. I blame my own ignorance and laziness. This is the world we live in, and it's a world we allowed to be created.
I use to work for enterprise. Its very normal for people to drop the vehicles off overnight due to damage and not wanting to take responsibility. For all we know this guy could have stolen the parts himself 🤷♂️. If the claim was withdrawn then it was due to the negligence of the manager at that location. Enterpise always investigates complaints. They must have gone over previous contracts and noticed that it was done previously.
What’s next, we have take a rental car for an inspection right after renting and right before returning to back ourselves up? Take pictures of every square inch of the car, the engine, the underside, etc? The rental companies should have someone available when the vehicle is returned, or don’t accept the vehicle until someone is available.
They would have to prove the theft occurred between the time of drop off, and staff taking possession of the keys at opening. NO cameras, therefore no proof the theft occurred that night.
Don't leave the lot until you have checked the vehicle for any damage. Also insist that the agent accompany you on that inspection. Once off the lot any damage becomes your problem if you didn't buy additional coverage from them or don't have a credit card rider. They do not have insurance or in other words are self insurers & so they are out to get you and me last month.
Its such a big problem with those being stolen from box trucks that the car dealership I work with started offering to weld in a cage to protect the catalytic converter from being stolen.
Evertime I rent a truck car or even go to hotel when I leave I video the room the condition I left it at and the car or truck I show my self leaving the area after a bit then I stop
Man I had an interview with this company and they are so incompetent I'm glad I didn't get the job but man I need work so bad I was hoping someone does a story so I can get a platform to secure a good job clean license background and driving record I was going to detail cars at the airport they sent me to the wrong location had me driving around town in a storm and almost an hour late and I asked multiple times days and days in advance I have all emails and texts even when I showed up to the wrong one the interview coordinator said it was the right job imagine your only job is to set up interviews for people that want to work and your playing with other people's jobs when I'm just trying to make a living and it's so frustrating unbelievable someone put me to work
Any vehicle dropped off over night at enterprise is still the customers responsibility till it gets checked in when the store opens the next morning. Your best bet is drop it off during business hours
Never return after hours. I always have them inspect the vehicle when I turn it in and have them sign off before signing anything myself before leaving. Its simple people!
• If Enterprise rents the lot, then it's on them. Either they need to find another lot that has security up to their standards, or to get the money from the lot. Either way, they have ZERO right to put it on the renter. They can't rent a lot with poor security then wash their hands of it. 🙄 • Gee, I wonder why they quietly dropped it for this one guy who got a news grew to cover it. ¬_¬ What about the others?
It's incredibly normal for you to be responsible until someone checks in the vehicle. It even says on the drop slot that you are responsible until the next business day. 0:12 This is a story of a man who doesn't bother to read signs and nothing more.
