I swapped all components from a 2000 Silverado 1500 to a 1950 Chevy 3100. I used a new compressor, condenser, evaporator, accumulator, and orifice tube to achieve a discharge temperature of around 42-44F at around 60F ambient (return air temp).

You saved a lot of money doing it that way, versus installing vintage air. Good job!

Beautiful! Great job, brother. I am truly impressed with your mechanical knowledge and skills. You make it look easy. I would love to have a 50's model truck running as a project truck and do some of the things you've done but finances don't permit right now. Maybe one day. In the meantime, I will continue to live out my dream through you. Thank you for the post. God bless and keep 'em coming.

Thanks for watching and the compliments! This is actually a customer’s truck and I’m in the same boat as you, no extra cash or time to build my own stuff. It sits on the lot rusting away. I live out my dreams and imagination through them as they give me creative autonomy. Thanks again!

Nice I have a 77 square body I want to do this A/C swap on. I know they make kits but I believe I can do it cheaper if I use this method.

It is cheaper on the pocket but time consuming! If you do the swap I suggest replacing the evap coil before installing the unit and using a new compressor (filled with the correct amount of oil). I had the unit in the truck and pulled a vacuum and it wouldn’t hold. The evap coil was leaking! As soon as I replaced the evap coil the compressor locked up. I guess some oil remained in the old coil and caused the comp to fail prematurely, due to lack of lubrication 🤷🏾‍♂️. If I had to do it all over I would convince the owner/customer to spend the $$$ for a vintage air unit. Thanks for watching and commenting!

very cool. and very nice work! I've been trying to find a more modern heater box setup for my old s10 so I can flush the firewall. it seems like no one really bothers with retrofitting oe parts. most people just buy vintage air systems which is neat but spendy

Thanks! The owner I built that truck for purchased a donor truck so I took most everything I could take from the donor and swapped it into the 1950, from the body control module to the cruise control and A/C 😅 ♻️

We took a gamble by not going through the entire engine and loss😫! It loss oil pressure and locked up in the first few days out of the shop so the owner ordered a longblock from Jegs and I’m installing it this week. I will do an update video so keep an eye out for that! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hey man love the fabrication!! Do you have pics of what you removed for the ac box from the Silverado? I’d love some more pic/ info. I’m working on a 65 c10 and want to do this kind of system from the junkyard.

Are you on a s10 frame? I'm wondering about clearance of ac compressor vs my s10 frame
@gillrodshop
@gillrodshop Год назад
No, it is the OE frame. I had to notch for ac comp clearance.

How much fabrication to dash to install 2000 A/C
@gillrodshop
@gillrodshop Год назад
I had to trim the lower dash in order to fit the HVAC unit. I also fabricated two a/c vent pods.
@qhands1342
@qhands1342 Год назад
Ok, so basically I need to cut lower bracket out
@gillrodshop
@gillrodshop Год назад
@@qhands1342 yes, I basically check and trimmed, checked and trimmed until I had it in place.
