The most compelling part of homelanders character compared to his comic counterpart is that genuine care for Ryan, to be the father he never had. He knows what not having one did to him which is why he kill noir for keeping that chance from him. You can see that HM was born a good soul but years of torture and isolation on top of corporate handling have turned him into a monster. It sometimes feels like his son could redeem him like Luke to Vader which if Vader could be HM could considering the death counts
More like "The child is the possession". I also wouldn't be surprised if he has other children, prior to Ryan and after him because Satan dad most likely forced himself upon other women, besides Becca (not counting Starlight nor maeve) and he favors the children with the supe moms. Homelander is all about control... He'll hate it when Ryan starts to get mouthy at some point. We'll have to wait and see what happens.
@@Aquamarinix_ well as a ultra famous superstar he prob just had sex, tho I'm sure he committed rape before regardless in the scene with the doc it's clear this has never happened before and that HM was made sterile. The chances a laser eyed kid is out in the world without HM or Vaught knowing is highly unlikely on top of the unlikely chance of having a child after being made sterile. Homelander is about control but in that convo with the doc you can see a genuine hope there's someone like him, some actual family, and throughout the series he's been trying to win Ryan's favor through traditional means like catch or tucking in rather than the force n intimidation hes known all his life and Ryan has already "betrayed" HM and cooked his lover yet with no anger he sticks by his son. Any parent would be upset with their child going against them or being spiteful and saying "satan dad" is a simple view of a very layered character. My original point was nuture vs nature, yes he is evil but he didn't start that way and even now isnt a black monster, there are some dashes of grey
Not likely Homelander has killed children with no remorse and forced a person who changed their mind about suicide to be forced to do it he may have been human once but that time is long gone all that remains is the devil.
I liked that it showed the reason behind Homelanders out of character respect for Black Noir until this point I thought he only liked noir bc he couldn’t say anything against him and always did what homelander told him it also shows that the reason noir never try’s to go against homelander is because he saw what he was capable of before anyone else when he saw what he could do to a group of people on “accident”
@@MrFredstt Could also be Hughie and he does it as a mercy kill... I mean if it re-aligns itself with comic just a little. Butcher will be killing Homelander, and then Butcher will be on a wild rampage now trying to kill all people who has been in contact with compact V all at once, and Hughie is forced to stop Butcher finally killing him.
Homelander is such a tragic and nuanced antagonist. Had he been raised in a home with loving adopted parents, he could've been a true uplifting parody of Superman and Captain America.
@AlaEddin-lb7vl'Sigh', getting real tired of people saying bullshit like this, when they clearly know nothing about character writing, or the characters themselves.
@AlaEddin-lb7vlImagine thinking Cap and Superman are one dimensional. You've either never read any good Cap/Supes story, or you're completely media illiterate.
@AlaEddin-lb7vlYou need to start actually reading comics because both these characters happen to be among the most compelling. Being a paragon does not equate one dimensional.
@@grimsgraveyard3598 Same tbh, S4 EP4 was the only time I ever glazed Homelander. His childhood doesn't excuse his actions ofc but now we get why he's like this.
Just realized, as bad as stormfront was she didn't give her daughter compound v as a child. Just goes to show how bad some parents were to give their kids compound v .
Considering the lvl of Stormfront's zealotry about creating a master race with V, i'd say that it was completely within the realm of possibility that she did give her daughter V.
@@knaanman7670pretty sure compound V isn’t passed down to kids since we see Victoria Newman giving her daughter a permanent V injection but on the other hand homelander calls ryan the first naturally born supe so maybe it can be passed down if it’s strong enough but we could also attribute it being passed down in homelanders case to the fact that he was heavily experimented on so maybe the V intertwined with his genetic code instead of just his blood cause it’s also been said that soldier boys radiation blast “fried the V out of kimiko’s blood”. I think homelander being so strong because the V is all the way in his genetics not just his blood and it can only be passed down like that is the best theory
Its kind of sad cause you can clearly see thats these were basic crimes against humanity and human violations against a kid that turned him into the irredeemable and utter monster that is homelander. Basically Homelander Had the potential of being a superman like figure but with voughts shenanigans and being cursed with being the strongest in the world of the boys he basically became a monster that at this point definitely needs to dis
It's ironic that people say that "Homelander is what Superman would be if he was a normal person/realistic" as if HL didn't have one of the most comically traumatic childhoods in fiction and was basically groomed to be a sociopath by a megacorporation from the moment he was born.
The fact that HM tried to be a good father but didn't know how is tragic. He was trying his best but everybody else got in the way of his happiness, at least from his perspective which is understandable but not an excuse. I also kind of feel bad for The Douche because he does genuinely care for marine life and being forced to eat his best friend must've been absolutely horrific.
pretty sure antony was wearing a wig for season 2 and 3, there’s interview footages of him with dyed hair after season 1, but not 2 and 3, he’ll be dying it again for 4, apparently
The spin off show "Gen V" gives huge insight to why so many supes end up fucked up mentally And homelander got that treatment from day one because he didn't have the benefit of having parents (Officially anyway)
Not even that. Gadolkin university, celebrity/social media thing aside, is very tame in comparison to the true crimes against humanity that happened to Homelander.
@@mrplayfulshade I mean pretty much it's woke as shit and quite patronising but it does give more insight to why most supers are fucked in the head, because the only other insights we have are Homelander and Starlight
@@xxxjuicyjaylovesyouxxx437He means that Soldierboy has PTSD from his experience while Homelander does not have PTSD from it Homelander is overall more messed up but he is more stable than Soldierboy,
@@monkebrainedfish3130 he is in no way more stable than soldier boy. Physically maybe but mentally hell no. He is one bad day away from layering New York to the ground
hearing how HomeLander could've been a good guy is like hearing about Anikan becoming Darth Vader, the transformations are completely different but it makes you feel the same like, what could've been. this is the whole point, ik, and makes his downfall that much more painful and great to watch.
Homelander, daydreaming about killing people in a crowd: "Nah, that'd be horrible for my image" Homelander, after actually killing someone in a crowd, the crowd in question cheering: "Damn, I HAVE been lied to my whole life"
Same but I don’t think it’s completely all from that as he goes to Ryan whenever he was stressed n wanted to see him… I think it was also the lying from everyone(Stilwell, Members of the 7, Vought, Stan Edgar, other) and them going behind his back n stop his control over everything drives him insane as he just wants to run the show and the whole world himself and everyone stand behind him while he realizes they wanna stop him now by end of season 3… and now he only has The Deep and A-Train because they haven’t really fought and gone against him YET and they might all side with the boys just to kill homelander as they realize he’s the real threat to the world n SoldierBoy is just a walking tickingtimebomb that gets set off and doesn’t really have any intent to take over the world or any ill-intent.
It wouldn't have worked, he didn't have a connection to a mother, that's the basic of empathy, which is the basis of human relationships. He never had a chance to be anything but a psychopath.
@@asdfghjklim5662 not necessarily, they still call them superheroes so probably no copyright issues. I don't think anyone had patented the term anyway
Yes, a "first natural born supe" -stormefront. All suppers are "made", only Ryan was actually born a supe, so he should be wayyyy stronger if he gets an injection(all the suppers have been made with v injections when infants and as seen with A train, if you're a supe it just works as a form steroid/s to them) 😮 A nicer, stronger HL. LOL, well, that's what I think It'll kinda be funny and lame if he can't handle the V. Anyways you are correct, he is the first natural born supe, no injections.
@@notrockman7896 The type and magnitude of power someone gets depends on genes, eg Translucent's son is also invisible, and Andre from Gen V's dad also has magnetism powers. But they arent born with the powers, they need to be injected
The world is very lucky the crowd cheered for homelander after killing that man. If the public turned on homelander completely he’d have nothing to lose and go AWAL. Probably resulting in the death of millions
I think if that was the case it would be revealed already.. but I still hope that happens because it would be hilarious to see Homelander react to that lol
@@B-zk9bt 🤣😂🤣 It’s just my theory. I think it would be a great twist and a Mind F for ole Homie if he found out that the egg fertilized by Soldier Boy came from Liberty (Stormfront). She was so dedicated to the cause, I could see her being willing to contribute.
@@yourhighness927 I missed it. Did they identify the egg donor? I saw that a random woman carried him, and he killed her by burning his way out; but who gave up the egg?
John being concerned over Ryan when he was having a meltdown over the crowd? I won't ever forget that.... he's a monster but I just love that scene so much.
People are saying that if homelander was raised in the same circumstances as Superman then he would be a good person. But in any real life scenario there would be no way he could have a normal life like superman. In any environment Homelander would accidentally kill people like he does in the lab. Can you imagine if he accidentally killed someone playing school baseball or football? Or if he just accidentally killed a student or students during school in public site? Someone as powerful as Homelander needs to be in control because the risks are just too high for him to destroy the world. Ironically him not having a normal childhood is a major reason why he’s crazy and will probably destroy the world. This is why you just don’t want people this powerful in our world. Even if they’re good people like Superman there’s always a chance they may go insane.
Homelander never learned restraint though. He was constantly tested on his powers, but never taught how to just be normal. Superman had years and years of practice both using his powers and supressing them, whereas homelander never had that kind of training and was kind of just thrown out to the wolves.
Homelander is far more powerful than the Seven. Billy Butcher claimed that superhumans can swim across the Sun, where it can be over 27 million degrees Fahrenheit. Billy has also claimed that some Supes can outrun tachyons, which are theoretical particles that move faster than light (100,000x faster). Homelander is stronger than Tek-Knight, who destroyed an asteroid the size of Texas weigh over 4.6 qunitillion tons and entry speed of 11,200 meters per second, it can destroy the moon twice over (59 exatons of TNT Moon level).
Wasn't that in his head? Techknight, the last part. And that's only mentioned in the comics. The dude that made the comics has said that he didn't like the comics, but now that he feels he can do the story better, he wants to do the show differently, so that's why the show is different, basically like the mcu, it will take stuff/characters from the comics but it won't be the whole comic storyline. Hopefully, it doesn't end up like shii, like the mcu is heading at this time.
That's all BS Tek Knight also didn't do shit, He died from a falling brick, He dreamt the asteroid thing And the comics make it perfectly clear, All the "feats" the supers do are made up by Vaugth Even Homelander and BlackNoir who were the strongest were easily damaged by heavy grade gunfire, Depleted Uranium shells easily penetrated them, They just had a high tolerance to damage, A nuke was said to easily kill Homelander
Honestly, it seems that Homelander is genuinely forming Ryan to be a good guy version of himself, kind of like homelander knows how unhinged he’s become but he just does not care because of what humans did to him, the lab tests.
It is interesting how it seems that Homelander is genuinely trying to be a good father to Ryan, but can't due to literally not knowing how due to his messed up childhood
@@jdam3131All the heroes were frauds But Solider Boy hated how Payback was always #2, So he slept with Homelander to try and get into the Seven Homelander never intended to let him in, and it's said he has sex with him every year telling him next time he'll get in for sure
Yeah, even little cricket's mom from Gen V felt like a better parent, at least she seemed to be intrusive out of genuine concern for her daughter's health.
@@shame2189Who's the little cricket? If you're talking about the girl who turns small mother, you should remember that it was because of the mother that she is how she is.
As unhinged as Homelander can be I feel bad for the guy at the end when his daddy denounced him and his grandson. Talk about a victim of circumstances.
Crazy that Homelander is only 6 years older than me and if all this were really a thing, knowing how my mother was when she was younger, she'd probably have sold me to vought in a heartbeat.
Mostly garth ennis he is mostly parodying the American thinking so in other countries perhaps supes could be fine i mean the vough american has concern only for its American heros image in other countries they don't care so much
If they treat being hero as a job then yeah ✅ but if they genuinely are a hero without money then maybe they would be like Avengers or Jedi (the best version).
Just imagine you were one of the soldiers in that cabin, and homelander is violently shouting "WHERE IS MY SON!" yeah, I feel like their deaths were neither quick nor painless.
If the son/daughter of supes are natural born supes, then wouldn't that make Stormfront's daughter a supe and she should've been younger or same age as her mom during season 2.
I almost feel bad for Homelander, but he’s gone so far past redemption. If they had actually done their job right and not make Homelander into a psychopath, they probably would have an actual Superman. Vaught really set themselves up to fail
If homelander actually wanted he could wipe out everything he desires but still doesnt do so. Something inside him is still good. We see that often when he talks to his "Evil self" in the mirror. Hes sometimes afraid of himself until he completely adapts to it. If someone literally anyone that he cares about would have told him that he didnt have it easy, didnt have a childhood, should be better then the people who tortured him, then he actually would still have had a chance to be good for the sake of others. But literally NO ONE did that, no one. Its no wonder hes the way he is. Hell i wouldn't even say he is completely evil but broken, very very broken. Yeah he does some gruesome things, but he doesnt know better. Hes a product to the people and expected to spread hope for america, but for what?
In comics he was a clone of stormfront who was a nazi with power of lightning like thor, he was a member of the paybacks which is basically the avengers parody (including soldier boy aka captain) and stormfront(thor knock off) was as strong or stronger than homelander(supe knock off), they gender swapped him and made him love interest of homelander and replaced him with soldier boy
The Misunderstandings made him an monster, It manipulated him Into a monster, And him not being smart and know how to talk with people, Made It harder I see that Homelander could really end before the boys find a solution to killing Homelander
It's kind of sad to see that he does actually care for ryan and wants him to be ok. He's so evil but a little bit of good shows through when he talks to ryan like a real father.
@@cavenderxlavender5352 yeah a lot of anti-heroes are actually villains, but some aren’t. Like Spawn. People who legitimately do the right things for the wrong reasons
“homelander coerces becca into having sex with him” ik coercion counts as rape but i kinda wish bro woulda just called it how it is n said he raped her
I don’t get why they say he raped her. Like did he literally hold her down because homelander says she came onto him and we never get any explanation of the truth
Ryans allure will soon ware off and homelander will get bored of him. He’s either going to be messed up like his no good father or regretful. I can’t wait
If Homelander was a Good person, The Boys Universe would've been so much different, He would've stopped Vought and ended all the bad stuff Supes were doing. But Greed made Humanity to Create a Monster
"because ryan has a mother" ouch, as bad as he is hearing his horrible life & how the story builds its sadly no doubt, its like giving a Disney kid actor powers & then forcing them into something like dance moms & then being surprised when they go bye bye.
While what John went through was awful for sure there’s still a line he crossed a while ago where that stops…well it never excused what he did more so made you sympathize with him cause you understand how vought tormented and warped his view of the world. With all that said, he’s still at that stage of his life with enough understanding of the world to know what he’s doing is wrong yet he does it anyway.
Therapist: British Homelander doesn't exist, he can't hurt you... British Homelander: 6:40- You seem to be mistaken my mistress as I actually possess the rights to carry out whatever task I so as well please...
Maybe, maybe not. Soldier Boy became a Supe in his 20s, yet he doesn't look like he's in his 20s (more like 30s or 40s). Maybe Homelander will reach a certain age and stop aging
18:21 Homelander didnt think that he "sexually impotent." He thought that he was *infertile. There's a big difference. Impotence means: the inability to achieve an erection. Infertility means: the inability to have/make/bare children.
0:58 I would still like to know the identity of this man, we are talking about a man who treated a little Homelander like a cat who peed on the carpet, what kind of monster is he?

It’s called The Boys: Diabolical. It’s an anthology series with different animation styles with each episode. Skip Episode 5, as that episode is an abomination. But the rest of the series is decent.
