My eldest son was extremely hyper. His school coach told him he broke every running record in the school. He asked us shortly after if he could run at the University that was 13K. Usually there's at least one parent who will fight Jo on something but neither of these ones did. They listened to her. When I was nine, I had ZERO expectation of privacy as far as what I did online. The understanding was that my parents could see everything. I wasnt old enough to have safe, unsupervised access to the internet. The problem here is that the parents didn't set that expectation and then ended up going through her internet account ON NATIONAL TV. Poor kid. On so many levels.

Let Dylan spend 10 minutes with MY mom. I remember, too, when we got our computer hooked up to the Internet (Dial-up lol), I was in Junior High. My mom warned me from day one NEVER to give out my name, my age, my location, my phone number…all of that. It’s advice that has stayed with me. I was much more familiar with the Internet than my parents - even my mom, who was in Data Processing. She would stand behind me when I was online and read what I was saying and looked to see what I was doing. It drove me CRAZY when I was these kids’ ages, but I understood why she did it. I never mouthed off because she would have IMMEDIATELY unplugged the computer/Internet and taken the cords.

The kids have never known anything different. They only know what we teach them!! This is why teaching kids about people less fortunate and teaching them to appreciate what they have is incredibly important!! Think about it, they go to school with, socialize with, spend time with all people who have similar as them. How do they know who those people who have less are? That they're not all just addicts and "bad people"(ie could never be me). These are all learning lessons.
