@Lucas Lucas Go watch a Karen compilation and you'll understand they behave that way more often than it gets recorded. Also semi-expensive restaurants tend to bring out the snob in people cause they get to act rich for a night. Actual rich people are actually pleasant and nice to wait on.

@Lucas Lucas There are some that reasonable for lunch, but I'd say for dinner expect to pay about 2x a chain restaurant. Some can be insanely expensive though like with any restaurant.
I’m sure he’s used to dealing with hecklers, just like standup comics have to get used to them too. It’s practically part of the job and he handled it very well!
That Chef is amazing. Karen probably didn’t realize just how much she was being trolled at that moment. He’s a catch - he’s intelligent, can think quickly on his feet, can cook, can clean, is very observant, is artistic and creative and can roll with the punches when he needs to.
in an ironic way she kind of did because ppl who do this want to see you get mad and upset. so having the table turn against her and laugh at the situation was the ultimate troll. this is how most of these non-violent situations should be handled imo.

This guy is one of the best hibachi chef I’ve ever had. He had our group belly laughing the entire time. If you are ever in Wilmington, NC go check him out. He works at Hiro and his name is BJ. A great experience.

If it was like one of those real Japanese high end restaurants where the chefs take their time to make an art with the food, then yea, you can expect that kind of entertainment from them. Trust me, I’ve been there. I’ve worked for one of these types of restaurants as a waitress before. Not trying to brag or anything, but I loved my customers and they loved me. Even though I was happy most of the time, there are times that I can’t put a smiley face. Don’t expect these fast paced restaurant workers to be like robots. I feel like this whole entertaining thing is all so messed up where people expect their chefs to be super entertaining while the chef is working whole day, serving 10+ plus tables.

I liked the video, but from experience dealing with tough customers, he didn't exactly handle it professionally. If I did this when I worked in food service at my previous jobs my managers would've fired me had they found out.

This idea of ‘the customer’s always right’ has always been so frustrating to me. It forces people who work in the service and food industry to put up with a lot of crap. This Karen was clearly in the wrong and just wanted something to nag about. The man handled it incredibly well. He cleared up the misunderstanding while maintaining the fun energy to ease the awkward tension for the other customers. Karen clearly kept fighting back. There are some people that you cannot manage with logic. If your managers in the past would have fired you for acting like the man in the video, I think that’s just a reflection of bad management on a corporate level. I’m sure you bring significant value to your workplace like this man.

That’s the same thing as disrespecting anyone in their kitchen. Just because it’slocated in the middle of the restaurant, that station is that chef’s space. Hibachi chefs are there for your entertainment but at the end of the day they are essentially a captain of a ship.
The chef is a Master. Not just at cooking. The way he crafted that situation was Amazing. His control of his customers is just complete. He knows exactly how much heat he can apply before he lays on the sugar. He touched all the bases. Remember he makes a living off of tips. His main customer is the family. The way he used Karen's interjection to improve the tip from family, while he also did not let Karen catch on fire, like they tend to do, was impressive! Gold Star for de-escalation of conflict and escalation of Tips! I bet Karen even comes back. It was even fun to watch.
Dude even told a story through his cooking. He made the heart at the same time. The fact the man is so spacially and internally aware all elements of him moving in perfect conjunction. Man deserves a raise.

That's one Main reason alot of ppl don't work in restaurants even when they love cooking... some ppl just don't have the patience and energy to deal with shitty ass customers. I don't think that women was as bad as I've personally seen but she did try to make the chef look like a fool and racist when she was the ignorant one. You can tell this guy won't let just "anything" get to his head specially if he's in a position where his professionalism matters more than a nonsense argument.

The chef is a king. Maybe we shouldn't be surprised since he has to perform for the public regularly but I felt he was on a whole other level with his attitude, sarcasm and charm.

This guy works at the wilmington nc hiro habitachi, Ive met him before he made my whole family laugh and he deserves so much love for whats hes done. He told us about this story and I thought that lady was crazy stupid. I hope he gets a the love he deserves.

People who have never worked in service industry do not know how bad some of the customers you have to deal with get. I have huge respect for Waiters, Bartenders, Flight Attendants, Barbers, Taxi Drivers, Fast Food workers, and anyone who has to directly deal and interact with People. Some of the assholes and Karens you encounter during your work can really mess up your day, or even your entire week. Be nice to the people who work in these types of Service industries, their work is really demanding, and dealing with People on a day to day basis is a bitch.

Most people who see me never guess that I was born and raised in Japan either, even when they hear my Japanese accent. You can't assume anyone's background just by skin color.
