University of Michigan Marching Band 2011 Entrance M Fanfare The Victors Let's Go Blue Drumline: • Video Temptation & Hawaiian War Chant: • Temptation & Hawaiian ...
My dad... The oldest of eight.. Grew up in Dearborn. His dad was a tool and die maker at the Ford Motor Company and part of the development team for the Mustang. My mother was from Jackson where her dad worked 35 years as a tire builder at Goodyear. My dad would look for a ride to Ann Arbor after his Friday night football game. If no one was going to the game, he'd hitchhike there. He never had the money for a ticket so he'd jump the fence and sneak in. Dad said he got his pants caught one time... The ushers saw him and threw him out. But my dad loved Michigan football and snuck back in during halftime. He saw every Michigan home game from 1947-1950 just that way. And it was worth the effort. Michigan was back to back National Champions in 1947 and 1948. I remember taking our battery operated radio outside on Saturdays while dad and I did yard work... Bob Ufer could be heard over a John Deere riding mower causing dad and I to occasionally pause to hear Michigan football heroics... But sometimes to laugh hysterically at Ufer-isms. Boy were those good times! One of the greatest legacies my dad left to me was a passionate love of Michigan football and all things Mee-chee-gan. There is no greater fight song than "Hail To The Victor's" and this video is my favorite rendition on the internet. Tears well up in my eyes every time I watch it. I get extra emotional over it realizing that it was written by Ernie Elbel.. From my home town of South Bend, Indiana... on the bus ride back from Chicago after the Wolverines captured their first conference championship by beating the University of Chicago. True Michigan football historians already know this... But U of M has been the beneficiary of many great players who hailed from the Hoosier state, as well. The most famous of all... I'm sure you've heard of him... Was Tom Harmon.. From Rensselaer, Indiana... Michigan's first Heisman Trophy winner in 1940. The current Michigan team has at least two Indiana kids on the roster... Backup QB Brandon Peter's who was "Mr. Football" as a high school player from Avon, Indiana... And RB Chris Evans from Indianapolis Ben Davis High School. Chris is a great compliment to Karon Higdon in Michigan's running attack and has four touchdowns this season for the Maize and Blue. Peters hasn't seen many snaps this year but we all need to pull for him now that McCaffrey is down with a broken collar bone. GO BLUE!
The sound of the U of M Marching Band always gives me chills. If you like marching bands you will love it in the auditorium. I am also impressed by the precision. Whether they smile of not is unimportant. Not everyone likes to smile. It is how they play that counts.
For an old Bandsman from the 1960s NOTHING is more thrilling than that cadence and the memories it brings. Tears in the eyes. Now if we could just clean up the rushed figures in Victors.
It ain't X-cadence if it ain't played around MM 180-220, right? Of course, the entrance to the stage at Hill is a bit longer than the entrance to the field at a game, so this requires a bit more endurance than on game day....
I was also in the marching band when I was younger. Thank you very much for the wonderful performance that reminds me of those days full of youth. Thanks to you, I've recovered.
Love it. And hats off to the young woman in the bone section who had my old "11" spot as it was known back in the day (spot one on the first rank of bones, usually the section leader). Band sounds great! Go Blue!
Now for a cheer they are here, triumphant! Here they come with banners flying, In stalwart step they're nighing, With shouts of vict'ry crying, We hurrah, hurrah, we greet you now, Hail! Far we their praises sing For the glory and fame they've bro't us Loud let the bells them ring For here they come with banners flying Far we their praises tell For the glory and fame they've bro't us Loud let the bells them ring For here they come with banners flying Here they come, Hurrah! Hail! to the victors valiant Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes Hail! Hail! to Michigan the leaders and best Hail! to the victors valiant Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes Hail! Hail! to Michigan, the champions of the West! We cheer them again We cheer and cheer again For Michigan, we cheer for Michigan We cheer with might and main We cheer, cheer, cheer With might and main we cheer! Hail! to the victors valiant Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes Hail! Hail! to Michigan, the champions of the West!
7-0 this szn. Just like 2021. Lil sis is on the clock. Also, Michigan marching band is talented, disciplined, and good players. I have been to one other Mich game when they played NW last year. Band was amazing. I can’t wait to attend the Michigan state game. Lets beat our little sister!
Remarkable, eh? UCSD grad here (same school colors, btw)...no football team so we cheer (well, some of us) for the sister campus up north (and goodness, they're going to join you conference in '24). Your fight song is unmatched overall (lyrics, music, college spirit infused and conveyed) and your bands over the decades (especially under Revelli, the Toscanini of band directors) were always among the best, if not the best, in the country (sorry y'all - especially OSU, fine as your band looks as you "cross the field" with that pretty fair rouser of a tune). Spartans might as well start waving their white flags of capitulation.
You won’t see any of my fellow SEC bands come on the field like these kids do! I love Michigan’s fight song because they use my High Schools fight song! 😂 Murrah H.S.; Jackson, MS! Go Wolverines! #hailstate!
I'd like to see the fight song played for each section of the band. "ok, just flutes. now just trumpets. just snares now." i mean, how many times can they play the fight song in the span of 1 minute
Now compare this modified MMB performance, to a regular NEBRASKA BAND SHOW! It's like putting a push cart in a race against an INDY CAR! Please Nebraska, FIX YOUR BAND, or just don't ever bring them to away games because you ah, you ah, YOU JUST SUCK, YOU JUST SUCK! I'd put Ann Arbor Pioneer up against the Cornhusker band any day, and still win in a band competition!
