Most people watching these bands have no idea of the insane amount of practice that goes on to pull this off. They make it look easy. Awesome job ladies and gentlemen !
For sure. There was a moment when part of the back line's marching was off and 95% of them adjusted to being off beat to create uniformity before fixing it. That takes serious skill. In marching band, uniformity always trumps being "correct". All throughout high school marching band, that was something I struggled with but they do it effortlessly.
You are so right. I was band parent president for two years. All the long hours in all kinds of weather ! Trips no sleep, fund raisers ! I could go on and on!!
I am a 72 year old man, retired to Florida, weeping as I watch this reminder of all the wonderful afternoons I've spent in the Shoe. Every one of them started with this. RIP Mom , Dad and Grandpa. Wasn't this Ohio life beautiful?
Weep all you want!! It's a beautiful moment when you see these amazing, talented kids!! It brings me to tears when I think that could be me if not for mother not letting me learn how to play the trumpet.
Remember the lyrics from the Ohio State Song, "Beautiful Ohio, in dreams again I see, visions of what used to be." I think many of us with a connection to the state of Ohio feel exactly that way.
These band members are so well trained it's amazing! The discipline it takes to accomplish this is amazing. They should be honored for their tremendous effort and competence! Unbelievable! They are to be honored for their effort for sure.
So as of this date 4/23 I am 78, lived a few blocks from the WOSU tower, and growing up delivered the newspaper along Star. I could look and see the stadium everyday. I graduated from OSU 1967 went tnto the Air Force and ended up in CA got out remained in CA had a career and now am in rural OR. I love to look at this and other videos of the OSU Marching Band my emotions are joy and pride in being there growing up 22 yrs - I just smile through out these videos. It is so long ago now but I have always been a Buckeye though I have not lived in Ohio for 56 yres - I am always a Buckeye. Thanks Central Ohio for such a great place to grow up and to be so proud of you all! What a privilege it was to be born there and raised there thanks mom! I am just smiling now as the Band begins the Script Ohio! Okay so the script Ohio is complete and I am weeping for the nostalgia of it all, What a marvelous heritage it is for me!
I was in band until I graduated from college. Unless you've marched, you will NEVER believe how complicated and difficult this show is. And if it reused through the season, that makes it more awesome, as the band has to learn new halftime shows and keep this entry sharp!
Meh, it's almost all standard 8 to 5 and follow the leader, some of the simplest marching out there. They do it well, but go watch some DCI for truly difficult and precise marching.
Guys, HERE is The TRUE Savior HalleluYAH translates “Praise ye YaH” YaH is The Heavenly Father YaH is Who Created “Man (Adam)” YaH arrives via the TENT OF MEETING YaH was Who they Crucified for the sins OF “Man” ** NO female involved WHATSOEVER ** - Hebrew Book of Isaiah Isaiah 42:8 "I am YaH; that is my Name! Script Ohio never, ever gets old! Amazing watching the little elements of showmanship from each member, and how they march through each other’s lines without missing a beat. And the timing has to be impeccable! How do they stay together? They’re marching in different directions, not hearing the sound as they would if they were inside, and they’re sometimes marching with their backs to the three directors on the sidelines. Yet, they still sound like a cohesive unit. Simply amazing.
Love it when that special person is taken over to dot the I....Makes this Buckeye tear up. Two brothers graduated from there and my SIL was a professor. She recently retired cuz the school is just too woke.
I was impressed in the first 2 min; in awe halfway through, and now...well, I'm speechless. HUGE respect for the brilliant choreographer and performers. Well done!

This is absolutely fabulous cannot imagine the hours put in by the band members and the leaders who choreograph the whole march. American marching bands have visited Ireland for Saint Patrick's Day for years and I've always admired them especially as a child. As a slightly older lady I can really appreciate the skill and work put into their drills.
One of the greatest experiences of life is surely the loyalty and attachment to one's college. But the Ohio State marching band is a tradition--indeed a phenomenon--that transcends Ohio. It is truly a national treasure.
Having a son and daughter both marching in this band at the same time was a true honor! You’d think seven total years of watching them perform this might get a little boring but NEVER! Very proud TBDBITL parents we will ALWAYS be! J-I row-first on the grass!
Congratulations to the both of you for such an outstanding achievement and gift to us all. Your children will forever know what true hard work and discipline is and what these principles can achieve in life. In addition, they will have the cherished memory and earned pride of being a part of one of the finest marching bands/groups ever to take a field. May God bless you both and your children.
Still Bill Thank you! Our son is now an anesthesiologist and our daughter is a financial advisor. You must have also been a TBDBITL member to know the type of hard work it takes.
@@helenvanvoorhis2678 You are welcome. No, I did not have that honor; however, I was a bandsmen who started in 4th grade, was fortunate enough to go to an outstanding middle school (where the director was a former U.S. Army band director...discipline!) and a likewise highly touted public high school known for is very strict corp style marching band. This eventually lead to a partial music scholarship to college (Southeastern Louisiana University) for marching band and wind symphony (both by audition). While SLU had a very good marching band back then, it was not at a level comparable to OSU; however, I know and appreciate what it takes (physically, emotionally, intellectually) to be in such an outstanding group of young women and men while having to "make grades". I am very proud to say that I had 2 nephews in the LSU "Tiger" band (also a highly touted, outstanding group) as well as another nephew in the ULL (University Louisiana Lafayette) "Raging Cajun" marching band. Good Music is good food for the mind and the soul. May God bless all our fine Universities.
I am a Nebraska Cornhusker fan and I had the rare privilege to attend the 2018 OSU vs NU game on November 3rd. Your band was magnificent! Such military precision in marching, I was amazed. Got to see the "Script Ohio." The OSU fans around me where nice enough to explain everything for me. I can't thank the OSU fans enough. They were gracious and kind. Please come to Lincoln, NE when you can.
I loved being in band through college, so I know the commitment, hard work, discipline and fitness that made this possible. I stumbled on this while watching military bands and listening to Sousa marches. Now I am a fan of Ohio. Spectacular, to say the least. Thank you for the upload.
👩💻My son served a 2 year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Ohio Mission 20 years ago and has been a BIG FAN ever since. Never misses the Ohio/Michigan match-up. He also has a big Ohio State Game Flag 3' by 5' hanging here in Utah and BYU country. Wears the 3 or 4 ball caps, coat, socks, and tie. When I watch the Ohio Marching Band, I feel like I am floating on air. These guys are great and commend their professors and advisors for their hard work. I see why my son loves Ohio so much. 🙋♀️😘😳🤗🥰
Merci, messieurs le Américains, vous nous remmenez toujours de la fraîcheur et de originalité. Je n'ai jamais vu une adaptation de Sambre et Meuse comme ça.
Many of my family members either worked at Ohio State, or worked at Ohio State under Woodie Hayes, or attended Ohio State, including my Dad...God Bless all of them!
As a former member of the world famous Tenneessee State University Aristocrat of Bands I love marching bands and I am adding seeing the Ohio State Band to my bucket list. LIVE!!!
My daughter is a band director @ Dunmore high school in Pa. The hours she and the students put in everyday are crazy. That includes Summer. My hats off for all they do.
Extraordinary spectacle, a triumphant entry, no doubt Americans are the best performers in the world of fanfare performance, they are of a precision in all the people who participate who keep their mouths open. Congratulations always here from Brazil, 2019.
What a HUGE band in size, charisma, discipline, sound, talent, showmanship, unity, & pride! I stumbled on this video, & it made my day! Thank You! This was absolutely beautiful to watch! ❣️
An IU alum who absolutely LOVES the OSU marching band. The entry of the drum major onto the field, the scripting of Ohio and the honored tuba player who gets to strut their stuff to dot the "i".....for some reason my eyes always tear up. Such grand work and pride with these musicians!!! And I do love that the band plays the opponent's school song at start. Just stunning.
@@jackoff1826 Don't know if it's just Big 10 schools, but yes they welcome visiting opponents with their school songs! Gracious hosts....until the game starts!😉😄
Guys, YaH The Heavenly FATHER HIMSELF was Who they Crucified for our sins, NOT jesus, and “HERE IS THE PROOF” From the Ancient Semitic Scroll: "Yad He Vav He" is what Moses wrote, when Moses asked YaH His Name (Exodus 3) Ancient Semitic Direct Translation Yad - "Behold The Hand" He - "Behold the Breath" Vav - "Behold The NAIL"
It is awesome to see, and I have seen them a time or 2, and never old. Love hearing the thundering sound when they enter into the stadium 🏟️. Makes this Buckeye proud!
I was in marching band growing up and traveled the region doing field shows and parades. We practiced minimum 3 hours daily out on the grass and in parking lots. This brings up fond memories. Thank you!

When satellite TV first came into being, you saw the entire half-time show. No commercials! That's what you paid for, to see TV without all the garbage. To bad we have to listen to people tell us what we just saw, what each team did and didn't do right, and yada, yada, yada!
It's too bad we didn't get to see IU's marching band in this video. Our football team might have gotten their asses kicked (I'm assuming. Don't remember 2011 but I assume OSU handed it to us with little effort) but it would be a different story if it was a battle of the bands. The Marching Hundred is freaking amazing. I don't want to say OSU's band sucks or anything like that, because they're obviously really good, but the Hundred is on another level. Yes, I may be a little bias, but I'm also right.
Ramp entrance is at once stirring and heroic. Gliding onto the battlefield to inspire their team to victory. 🇺🇲. Script OHIO is iconic timeless. Viva la France. 🇨🇵
My grandson and granddaughter were in band, and we saw the hard work they put into it , even though they left high school for college,we still go watch the high school bands,it's so much fun!!!

The fans love the tubas because other than the Drum Major, they got an increased applause. Also, coming down the ramp they are so smooth they appear to be on an escalator. Awesome 👍
The sousaphone (not tuba) player gets increased applause because the crowd realizes that four or five years of hard work are about to be paid off by "dotting the i." Did you notice that the "dotter" was female?
At our high school we look up to OSU's band. We have the same marching style, similar uniforms, same fight song, run on, across the field, into the U (for upper Sandusky. It used to be a u and an s but we changed it to a u) hang in sloppy, and every year were invited to play with them but every year it is on the same day as our homecoming ;( we are called ram nation and the best damn ram band in the land. OSU is our idol. One of our trumpet players from the class of 14' is now in the OSU marching band. Go Drew Barth! One of our trombone players from the same class is at Ohio University and we couldn't be more proud! Go Bucks!
Haetalie McDyer I think you mean Ohio State, because Ohio University is the Bobcats. Completely different style of marching, and they are more of a show band than OSU (proud son of a member of the OU Marching 110, the most exciting band in the land!! ‘HIO!!!)
My high school, Princeton High School, in Cincinnati was the same way, modeling ourselves after TBDBITL. Same fight song, Alma Mater, spats, marching 8 x 5, etc.
From someone who's always put hbcu bands above all, i.e, famu, Bethune, Jackson state, etc....this band by far holds its own, just with formations and uniformity alone. Outstanding.
HBCU bands are great, and I love their style and energy. However, people who try to compare them to TBDBITL do both a disservice - they each define excellence in their own genre, and that is how it should be. It is apples and oranges to rate one against the other.
I played football and you can be assured the players hear this in the locker room and if this doesn’t get you up for the game you must be dead. Much respect
My daughter spent 4 years in her high school marching band and 4 years in her college marching band. She went to the Rose Bowl with her college football team two times. Both times she marched over 7 miles in the Rose Bowl parade//non stop as she played her instrument…so yes…the practice is intense!
Wowza, that was the most entertaining sporting entertainment epic I gave witnessed in a long long time! This should be featured at the Superbowl...every year...not the nonsense that is passed off as entertainment. The skills, choreography and brilliance of step by step execution ....amazing!
I love these videos. I was a member of the University of Arkansas Razorback Marching Band and I know the amount of practice we put in for each performance. I think we practiced more than the football team!
W Parsons record companies pay the NFL for the privilege of the sponsored halftime show. However the first Super Bowl halftime show featured Grambling State University’s Band from Louisiana.
So much respect and enjoyment from a fellow musician! Oklahoma State and Baylor alum, I've always enjoyed the professionalism from the Ohio State band. Thanks for sharing and God bless. Hope to see you in a professional music environment in the future!
I also was in band in high school I enjoyed every minute of it it’s awesome now that technology has moved on since I was in high school anyway a drone shot would be awesome I think it looks really cool thanks
@@johnclemash2544 They are good, too, but I'm going on results of polls conducted by sports reports like ESPN, Fox Sports, etc. Texas A&M is also good.
As a former marching band student, I can honestly say, "I do believe this band is the best, these eyes have ever seen." Congratulations! Your hard work has paid off.
The music for the SCRIPT is the magnificent French military march "Sambre et Meuse." A brilliant choice! (Full name: "Le Régiment de Sambre et Meuse" typically known as "Sambre et Meuse" for short but, it seems at Ohio State Univ. its typically called "Le Regiment.")
I was in admiration in front of this university show and American marvelous energy from here in France when suddenly at 4'30" I was very surprised to recognize a famous Napoleonic song from the French revolution: Sambre et Meuse! WOOOW! Incredible!?
Great video that brings up a great memory for me...and a story. Marching band entrance & Script Ohio. I actually went to both Indiana University (masters) and The Ohio State University (doctoral music student, not completed). A girlfriend I had said, “We have to get football season tickets.” Me: “What, they have a football team?” Same question at IU, “What, they have a basketball team?” Actually, Bobby Knight was the basketball coach in my first IU year, and Woody Hayes was the football coach at OSU (his last year, I believe.) We got the tickets. What is my amazing flashback and memory? The very first time the OSU Marching Band made their entrance, followed by the Script Ohio, I was truly shocked. “They’re wearing our uniforms. The belts, the gloves, the spats. They’re marching like we do (with the hand cross.)” In my senior year in Passaic High School (NJ), our beloved band teacher of many years retired and we had a new band teacher. First thing in marching band season. He bought us new uniforms. He made us march, much more professionally, in a new manner. Of course, as high school seniors, we complained. We did it, but why? Why did we have to learn new things?” We didn’t understand but listened and did it. And YES, our new band teacher was from OSU. I only learned this about a decade later at my first OSU football game. If only we knew. We would have kissed his feet. If only we could see a video like this. Our new band teacher was great and we had a good relationship as we learned new things. A belated thank you to all my band teachers. Mr. Spurr (elem/middle school); Doctor Riggin (high school); Mr. Groom (OSU high school). Names might be slightly off (old memories).
Growing up in Alabama, I never liked Ohio’s football team. But I have always loved Ohio’s band, especially the dotting of the “i”! Thanks so much for sharing.
Old time Marching Band member here, Ohio’s band is fantastic! The many, many hours of work that went into this, not to mention all the music is memorized (no sheet music on the instruments) in addition to the complex marching routine - just Wow!
