Fantastic interview! He left Systems in Blue, wow, I didn't know that. I wonder how they will continue. The interview shows that there are all kinds of music styles to draw from. Melodic rock and Disco Fox have quite a lot in common: good melodies and catchy choruses for instance. First I knew Olaf Senkbeil as singer in the rockband Dreamtide. Around the time of that band's debut (2002), after listening exclusively to rock music for a while, I went back to search for music from my youth; the 1980s. The death of someone close to whom he is referring is probably the guitarist of Dreamtide, Helge Engelke. He was also member in the rockband Fair Warning. When I looked up the history of those bands, I came across drummer CC Behrens, which also was a member in Silent Circle. This way I discovered Modern Talking again, and acts I didn't know yet like Bad Boys Blue, C.C.Catch Joy and Blue System. and finally Systems in Blue almost 20 years ago, when they released their woderful debut album. I think "Frag mich nicht wohin die Rese geht" by Captain Trash is a awesome track. Beautifully produced Disco Fox with cool peculiar vocals at times. A nice new take on a familiar style!
yes I also think he means Helge, I can't forget he died on my birthday so was a big shock... I'm fan of Dreamtide too, which I discovered through Olaf... I think the same about "Frag mich..", despite was not produced as it deserves, I hope a remake someday... Economic Creatures is another so underrated in my opinion. And Olaf has so many great songs, never fairly produced, never released... I guess it's because of his extensive knowledge in music doing covers in all styles, and together different musicians, singers, bands, duets, etc, etc for years and years... It's not true that he doesn't have a great musical career as he says, he has it and that's plenty. Being famous or not, does not determine anything. We have an unjustly forgotten genius here and he doesn't care much either, but I believe that the day will come when he will be better recognized... BTW what he mentions about pyramids, I think maybe was the chat we had at 5 am that day lol, but unfortunately, we didn't finish this conversation...
