Graphics mod for ArcheAge and ArcheAge Unchained.
Garden of the Gods EDIT: It looks like XL Games didn't update any of the modded files, so there should be no problem using the Environment Mod with the Garden update. I will check things out more in-depth later to see if adjustments need to be made for any other changes.
In addition, I have also written up how Nvidia users can force Nvidia Ambient Occlusion on ArcheAge, which adds some additional shadowing to the game.

** Intro **
It took a while, but it's finally here. The Environment Mod update for 6.0 and Unchained. Thank you guys for waiting (and thank you for 100 subscribers!).

As always, if you have questions or feedback, feel free to leave a comment below. I try to respond to most comments, but there are times where RU-vid eats comments or sends it to some spam limbo, so sorry if I don't reply right away.
** What is the Environment Mod? **
This is a graphics mod that tries to show ArcheAge's environments in their full glory. This is done by adjusting some of configuration values set for optimization. Some examples of changes are increased view distance for vegetation, increased view distance for environment particles like fog, increased shadow distance, vegetation physics, etc.
Changes are only for environment aspects and try to have minimal impact on gameplay. They do not affect things like view distance for housing, ships, other players, etc.
Installation uses the same method as other mods like FOV mod and KR Font mod. This mod can be used alongside those mods as well. I recommend you only use this mod if you can already play vanilla ArcheAge on max settings and DX11 comfortably.
** Will I get banned for using it? **
By using this mod, you take the risk of being banned like all other mods. Gamigo has more or less taken the same stance as Trion on modding. They do not officially approve any mod, but will turn a "blind eye" as long as it's not abused and has no conflicts with EAC.

Previous versions of this mod have been reported to receive bans for RU and ArcheRage servers.

If you do not want to risk using this mod, check the end of the description for a potential alternative.
From my own tests, both Legacy and Unchained do not show any problems with the Environment Mod. It also doesn't seem to conflict with EAC and I haven't experienced any bans. But again, be aware of the risks, especially since Unchained is a B2P title.
** My Setup **
The Environment Mod was tested with this setup, so your performance may vary depending on your rig:
ArcheAge Unchained / ArcheAge both in DX11 and 64-bit.
Windows 10 Professional 64-bit
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB SC
Intel i5-4570 CPU @ 3.2GHz
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM
Included with the Environment Mod is a .txt file with additional information on configuration settings. Use it as a reference if you intend to fiddle with the mod to adjust performance.
** Alternative **
For those that don't want to risk using the mod, I have found that some of the changes work for me through system.cfg. You can usually find your system.cfg file under Documents/ArcheAge. Let me know if this ends up working for you.
Just insert these values at the bottom:
r_ShadowJittering = 5 (if you want softened shadows)
e_phys_foliage = 2 (if you want vegetation physics)
e_particles_lod_onoff = 0 (if you want increased view distance for environment particles)
r_HDRBrightThreshold = 32 (if you want reduced bloom)

That's great. When they announced the graphics changes i knew that your mod will need an update and i'm glad you made it. Some differences are amazing, like the visible fog from far distance. These settings should be there by default..

Friggin view distance for ships and players I wish could be changed... the view distance for ships, is like a 90yr old with cataracts.

Mod works great! Thanks! The Nvidia Profile Inspector Ambient Occlusion doesn't work that well, I get these weird WHITE lines on characters & textures whenever I enable it, did you have the same issue?

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. Could you describe the white lines in a bit more detail (or a screenshot if you can)? If they look like white grid lines, usually that happens when the antialiasing mode is set to TXAA or MSAA. All the "true" antialiasing methods are bugged in ArcheAge, the post-processing AA like PostAA and FXAA work fine though.

Some do, like the cvars included in the mod. But many commands from Crysis do not work in the cfg files or can't seem to be modified, such as the player commands. If you want to try adding cvars yourself, I would put them in the cfg files the mod includes or system.cfg. Putting them in other cfg files seems to cause freezing when loading up now. Also, be good to backup game_pak if you don't want to redownload it again if something goes wrong.

So if you just edit the cfg file instead of using the mod, which aspects of this do you lose? You said _some_ of the changes work?

The only ones that work as far as I can tell are the ones that I listed in the description. The major difference is that you won't get the increased view distance for vegetation or shadows.

Hi r_HDRBloomMul = 0.16 in archeage.cfg do work as well but best to place it in shader.cfg

I haven't fiddled much with the version serviced by Kakao nor plan to, but the mod and Nvidia AO seems to still work from my initial tests.

I gave this a try but in the character screen the lighting seems to be having issues, flashing and undulating all over the character, what can i do to stop that?>

Hey there, you can try going into the folder named "mod" and adding this line to option_texture_bg.cfg with a text editor like Notepad. r_ShadowsOmniLightLimit = 0 Then just run patch.bat again. In case you want to know why this issue happens, a recent patch changed the number of lights that can cast shadows at one time (probably for optimization). Since this mod increases the shadow distance and the login screen has a lot of lights, it looks like that causes the flickering. Putting this setting to 0 disables the limit. Let me know if that ends up working for you. You can also wait and redownload the mod a bit later as I'll edit the description with an update to the files. I usually run a separate mod with more experimental modifications, so I hadn't noticed that this issue also happens with the Environment Mod. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

@@thebagel7897 ya tried that line it still blinking in but its mostly in character screen selection on the model, this problem doesnt show up in world all that much mostly on housing and tree's

@@Vayriah Thanks for giving that a try. The light issue cleared up for me with that change, so I wasn't able to replicate your results, but I experimented a bit to see what else was affected by the light limit. There is another possible culprit. In the "mod" folder, under option_shader_quality.cfg there are four settings: ;e_GINumCascades = 6 ;e_GICascadesRatio = 4 ;e_GIRSMSize = 384 ;e_GISecondaryOcclusion = 1 You can remove these settings or put a semicolon in front of each one as I've done above (the semicolon disables them). These are adjustments for the global illumination (indirect lighting) in ArcheAge. But it's very subtle, so you can take them out without worry. Try removing those lines and run the patch again with r_ShadowsOmniLightLimit added. Hopefully, that should get rid of the remaining blinking.

@@MuvvLuvv Yes. You'll notice it everytime you login to your character. The view distance will still be like normal until you press "Apply" in options to update it. Part of the trade-off unfortunately.

Likely because they have to meet certain recommended hardware requirements (which they stated they have to keep low for China and Japan in particular). They probably also have to consider performance for a variety of content. For example, while my FPS is fine in most general activities, it will tank harder with this mod in any big raid content. Not enough to make it unplayable for me, but FPS drops in general aren't good for competitive content.

@@thebagel7897 well I'm on rtx2080 and sometimes I sit on 30fps on raids, changing settings from highest to lowest gives me like 15fps. I still think it should be an option. Obviously it's not going to be for everybody.

@@Knattertun fps in this type of games is not only based on personal rigs, it is also based on how the game is optimised, also the engine it is running on. So you can stop trying to look cool in the comment section🙂
