Ed's horror on behalf of the brothers is very sweet. They may be murderers and they may have tried to kill him, but he considers them people all the same. True to his values, he doesn't think they should be murdered like that. He's rough, but very kind.
+Wendy Marvell actually it was never confirmed what gender envy is. Watchmojo did a whole segment on him in the top ten gender less characters -'or something like that
If you watch the Japanese version it is easy to get confused when he sounds like a female, but when I watched the dub version there was no confusion at all. Of course both actors who voice Envy are female, just the English voice sounds more malelish in my opinion.
His response was funnier in the manga. Lust: Looks like technical difficulties. Envy: (goes chibi and throws his hands up with joy) YIPPEE! :D (goes back to normal and knees Ed in the stomach)
“LUCKY ME!” Literally the best part of the whole show 😆 but one other thing. “His life isn’t in danger but he has lost a lot of blood so you might wanna get him to a hospital as soon as you can” Envy... sometimes you make no sense 😂
Can we just take a moment to appriciete how expressive Envy is? Like, he can look cute and harmless in one second and in the other absolutely terrifying.... It is great
I just love how Envy says that he is lucky Ed's arm is broken so he doesn't have to fight him, but then immediately turns around and tells Ed that he is the lucky one. I know it is because Envy didn't want to deal with the hassle of having to fight but not seriously harm an important sacrife, but it comes off as this whole "Oh thank God I don't have to fight you, now I won't have to get hurt, but also you are so lucky you don't have to fight me, you don't know how bad I could mess you up."
As much as I can't stand Envy, I can't help but think of him as my favorite homunculus. My feelings for this shape shifting palm tree are very conflicted. I hate that he killed Hughes in the form of his wife out of cold blood, started so many wars just to make philosopher's stones, and I hate how sadistic he is. Most of his motives behind these actions stem from his jealousy of humans, and I do somewhat pity him. But, I can't deny that he's amusing and funny to watch and spices up every episode he's in. I don't like him, but FMA wouldn't be the same without him. Just my two cents.
I think killing Hughes was not out of cold blood. Hughes learnt something he shouldn't have and had to be "taken out". Since Lust failed Envy got to the task and did it in his own sadistic way. In other words they were ordered to take him out since he knows a bit too much.
@James Lough I never said/written that he never enjoyed it. Heck, he knew well in the 2003 anime that Dante was just using him too as her pawn but was okay with being used as long as he can be as sadistic as he wishes. In both versions he enjoyed killing people and his job as an instigator. It was just pure luck that his pleasure happened to be also his duty.
I agree in that, "I don't like him, but FMA wouldn't be the same without him." Beyond that, I honestly couldn't pity the filth when it came time for him to die. If anything, I was disgusted something so destructive could be boiled _(or burned lol)_ down to something so pathetic as what he ended up. True, I do appreciate him as a villain and he isn't like at the top of my most hated list, but Envy is and always will be disgustingly weak.
2:07 just goes to show how nice Envy can be. Makes me wonder if he is really like that on the inside. It's one of the reasons that I actually like envy. XD
+Len Kagamine well later on envy admits he acts like he hates humans but he really likes them and he was always so sad and mad he couldnt be a real human
Four year old comment, I know, but how in the holy hell can you prefer this Lust, who has no characterization whatsoever, to her 2003 counterpart, who actually has character development?
@Humaira Humaira 2003 Greed wasn't a bad character, but he had such a small amount of screentime, although his death was great. Brotherhood Greed was definitely better, though. I agree.
I don’t know about Envy either. In 03’ he was better at fighting, was more intelligent and deceitful, and could kick some serious ass, and his motives were more justifiable and better linked to the prospect of Envy since he was regarded as Hohenheim’s first dead son and was more driven on that fact. ‘09‘s Envy was more of a psychopath, mostly just a cruel person but also sometimes relegated to being the funny man of the Homunculi. There wasn’t much to him imo.
Has to do with the origin of the hommunculi in the respective versions, in brotherhood and the manga, Lust and the others are created by "Hommunculus," the dwarf in the flask, either directly or through implantation within a human host, and possess at least some innate knowledge of their intended purpose (shortly after the creation of second greed, he remarks upon how he possesses the body now, compared to the previous owner, ling, and the reader/viewer sees the two having a discussion just before.) In the 2003 anime, if I recall correctly, they appear without really knowing how they came to be, as a result of attempted human transmutation.
Lust feels like she'd be a long term villain. But on rewatch you realise she's just level 1 fodder. Dies long before the final battles. I think her death just exists to show the homunculi can be killed as well as the extent of their durability.
Something I can't help but notice: the anime very heavily tones down Envy's slight cowardice from the manga. In the manga, he's nervous about fighting Ed until it's revealed that Ed's arm is broken, at which point he immediately sucker punches him. Later on, when Gluttony goes out of control and he calls Ed short, he again expresses a fear of fighting. That seems to disappear, though, once he reveals his true form for the first time.
Ok the scene where he's up close to Edward's face it looks to me that he's just asking to be kissed by him XD Envy; The sestion is kissing pucker up lover boy~ Ed;-kicks-
I love the way Envy said "LUCKY MEE" and ran up to him, but I was hoping he/she was just gonna pat him on the head :( Would've been fun and quirky, but if Envy is supposed to be malicious this works too.
Is sad how no one loved envy and Envy even tho until the last moments he protected father, I always liked watching envy and lust together because I feel lust was the only one that care a bit about envy, and the other Homunculi didn’t. Is really sad, envy just wanted someone who loves him like family or friends like humans...
I mean most of homonculi are like that . Pride is basically considered a monster . Gluttony and lust were the closest one I guess . But Envy deserved better 😭
Ashley W, I agree, Roy is an adult it's messed up that he's paired with Edward. I don't agree on the Winry thing though, since their relationship is literally canon. But, Envy wouldn't do him any good either? The relationship would be abusive and unhealthy. Hell, the abuse wouldn't even be one sided, they would physically and emotionally hurt each other.
They were talking a whole lotta shit, but if his arm hadn't failed, I think they were underestimating him. In that 1v2, being weakened against two much more physically strong and durable combatants is a major disadvantage, but Edward elric is stupidly clever and far too smart for his own good. Between that and their arrogance, he had a chance to escape at the very least. Of course, knowing him, he probably wouldn't run. Too stubborn for that.
