So sorry for your loss. My mother plays piano too. I could listen for hours. I havnt seen her in 10 years. She is now 75. I left Australia to live in the US 30 years ago and I'm having difficulty getting back on my feet in order to afford the process of leaving. My worst nightmare is losing her before I return. My father too who is 77 and has 2 remaining siblings from 5. Thanks for sharing ❤

I too suffer from depression. Last year I spent 1 month in hospital and 15 days in a coma after taking 200 painkillers to take my own life. I woke up in hospital suffering from severe delirium which was very scary indeed. I still have depression and I can't find my path to normality, to feel contented in this life. I feel nothing but distress and pain and I don't know why. I recently started reading Philosophy and for the most part Idealism which has been very very revealing and awakening in the most extraordinary sense. Maybe one day I will make a breakthrough. My mom is the only person who knows what I was in hospital for. As I read and learn more Enya's music is so well paced and helps me relax more that usual. I know how you feel with your depression and the painful nights that happen to us especially when sleep is far away. Maybe if you began reading about Idealism then Bernardo Kastrup has a great channel to begin to understand it called The Essentia Foundation and he has also written a few books on the subject. Hope you find meaning in all this and the road to recovery. It certainly has given me a sense of meaning Peter:)

This album was such a large part of my night time routine as a child. I now play this for my two children as they fall asleep. (It's a very surreal experience for me.) Before they were even a thought, my husband and I would often cuddle up together after dealing with a day's worth of work related stress and we'd fall asleep to this masterpiece. This album will forever be a staple in my household. 💚

No musician has ever been as passionate, or impactful as Enya. Anyone who has ever made a negative or derogatory comment regarding this beautiful, talented woman has a problem with themselves that have not faced, or dealt with in a positive manner... Enya's innate talent cannot be compared to any other s musician that ever performed with what they had to share. This woman is one and only one of a kind. The passion, the rawness, the genuine innate vocal expression has never been matched. There is no competition from her, and will never be anyone like her... she is a diamond, a genuine unique talent that did not need polishing. She is above and beyond what anyone would even think they could ever imagine as a woman of the heart and soul of her native land... Ireland. I feel connection with her like no other connection I've ever experienced. I am grateful and proud to have discovered this rare, innate musical and vocal expression. Thank-you Enya.❤

1989 for me, just out of high school. I was dating this girl, Watermark was on my CD player, and it was a wonderful night. I can't ever listen to this album without feeling wistful. We lost touch over the years, I'm in my 50's now. We were just kids, but I'll never forget what we had, however brief it was. We only fall in love once, and spend the rest of our lives trying to find someone who comes close to that first time. Charlene, I will always remember that summer, whenever I may find you.

When I first heard Enya it was in 91. "Orinoco Flow" on the Radio. The DJ said her name and I remembered it. Soon after that experience I went to the record shop to buy that record. The only CASSETTE that they had was the one with her on the cover, standing next to a German Shepherd who looked like it barking. The album was titled ENYA (now titled "The Celts"). It didn't have "Orinoco" on it, but it completely served its purpose. I later bought "water" and all that follows. 👍I would have say that "Shepherd Moon" is my fav album. But "Paint the Sky with Stars" is my fav compilation. Angelic music.

I sang On Your Shore for my uncle today, sitting at his kitchen table. He is near the end of a wonderful life, and I visit twice a week & help my aunt a little. I’ve never sung for anyone - and never been so sure of doing something right… And: his short term memory loss is increasing. So we are suspended together for the minutes of each song I bring him, and a few beyond them as he tells me how wonderful that was … This is the first time I’d ever sung Enya, ever! - and he really loved it. He loves them all, but some - like this one - just thrill him. I’d talked to him beforehand- that I thought it could be about what love brings us, shows us, prepares us for, on the shore between one life and another…. Anyway, as Enya does with each of us, the song found and held him, made sense to him and of his life - a compassionate mirror … ? Enya’s words& music touch on the unsayable. I am so glad I was able to bring him that gift.

Reading the comments about loss and the soothing quality of her sound tell me just how much Enya has had impact on lives. Ironically, some have not been able to hear her because her calming melodies are just too connected to the trauma that is loss. I can see that being a thing. The thing that helps one get through the grief becomes the grief (or too close to it.) That's too bad because I listen to this album just about every day. I bought a car with a cd player 2 years ago and got this familiar Watermark for a dollar at a thrift shop. I play it on my radio now in addition to listening at home like I have been doing for so many years. I might be up there near the top of a list of how many times one has played this. I remember when it came out in 1988 and she was on the cover of the Irish music magazine Hot Press. Time flies. But this is not just background music, it's kind of like the sound track to my life. Her voice is enchantment and that's exactly the name of my playlist. Enya Enchantment.

When I was 20 years old I decided I wanted to learn to play the piano. I didn't know ANYTHING about music - I just knew I wanted to play the piano. I went out and bought the sheet music for both 'Watermark' and 'Shepherd Moons'. "Miss Clare Remembers" and "No Holly for Miss Quinn" were the first two pieces I learned to play. Now, 30 years later, I find myself always coming back to those original two pieces. Enya's first two albums will always have a special place in my heart.

It was 1988, living in Florence, doing Portraits on Ponte Vecchio, business was slow. A friend and I went to Lago di Garda to work- Carlo was a Parisian leftover from the 50’s & 60’s, cutting out portraits on paper. We were camping. The weather was rainy and so little business. Alas, we knew we had to leave, after a week- depending on where the next $50 would come from. We set up on the promenade, on the sea wall, with a thunderstorm storm approaching in the distance, I set up my French easel and a Beautiful Senior Couple approached- coming from the Opera in nearby Verona, her dark eyes and hair were exquisite, dressed in an orange evening gown, our Angel Of The night! Working feverishly, as a crowd amassed, with the wind kicking up, and each thunder and lightning bolt coming nearer, the crowd would respond in dramatic unison. The Portrait Completed, an Applause ensued, as I quickly rolled it up in a piece of tissue paper and into a tube, a few heavy raindrops came down, meaning business- just in time to make the transaction! As soon as I closed my easel, and the pastels were safe, the sky let loose. We got soaked but it was a “Happy,” kind of soaking as we ran to the car, and headed off home to Florence- with the sum total of my earnings- This Tape - and the means to motor our way back. I didn’t realize what a magical time it was..... as all time should be~

@@jmgnish Yes, I am threatening to do that, as I am living off of my memories, now! Carlo was nearly twice my age and I’d known him for 2 years, I explained, “we are JUST FRIENDS, Capishe?” I packed a small bag back at my apartamento at Borgo Santa Croce #4, ( I prayed to Michelangelo to help me find an apartment, only to learn much later that he was buried a half block away in Santa Croce Church! I would visit his Crypt every morning after a Capuccino & jog around Piazza Santa Croce, The caretaker would open the door there on the right and usher me in, “Sinora,”and I always reminded him, I was a,” Sinorina!) And were off to “ see the Wizard,” in Carlo’s Ancient Land Rover. Deep in the Heart of Tuscany, We motored up a well routed muddy road, atop a hill, to his rented “house,” more like a 10 bedroom castle, something out of a movie, it was a ruin, really with intact fireplaces, each with a large caldron. You almost expected to see knights and “Miladys,” walk thru the entrances. I was in a living museum. Before We left in the night, I reiterated, “We are JUST FRIENDS,” especially when I saw the sleeping arrangements, for our great adventure, a nifty little tent, plopped down ATOP The Land Rover! We stayed at a rustic campground, I was vigilant of an invisible line of demarcation down the middle during our Sojourn and proudly earned myself the Title, of being, “ FRIGIDA!” Atleast that was The Word on The Street, when we Hot Back- I learned a new word!

@@keywestcatlady LOL Men! Italian men!! 20 yrs difference doesn't bother me now but at a young age, it's outrageous! I was supposed to accompany a friend of mine to a small ancient mansion in Tuscany many years ago, but I was in a relationship and didn't trust myself 😜 and so I cancelled. All expenses paid too. It sounds like a very relaxing place to be. It almost feels like time stands still and yet is present all at once in those vintage places with architecture that has seen so much. The vibration of the rich history where generations have come and gone is like a living thing. I had an amazing 2 weeks in Rome once, staying with locals who were friends of friends. I could barely keep up with their lifestyle and did so much more than I had planned. I have a friend, (who is actually an old friend of the guy I was meant to travel with, who sadly died many years ago), living in the South of France begging me to come and stay but I am Australian and have not been home in 15 years. So if and when I can sort out my life, expenses, legalities etc. first stop is mum and Dad. Hopefully soon as they are in their late 70s. Thanks for the rest of the story.. I love to hear them and to tell them. So many people don't have such great experiences. Traveling really makes life happen.

I come from a background of listening to punk rock, thrash metal, but my much mocked appreciation of Yanni, led me to explore similar avenues and led me to this absolute work of beauty, I am awestruck, not since hearing Kate Bush many years ago have I been this enthralled, I have always had a huge love appreciation for progressive rock too like Jethro Tull, Yes and Genesis as well, my contrasting tastes sometimes have led to mockery but I don't care, beautiful music can really cross boundaries and touch people unexpectedly of all musical tastes, this melts the seasoned heart of a punk rocker haha

Are you me? :D Maybe not punk but metal was my gateway to music yet I was always drawn to the concerts and soundscapes of Yanni, Enya, Loreena McKennitt, Vangelis... much to the astonishment of most of my rocker friends. But this kind of music is just so cinematic, I feel like hearing a story I get it's not "edgy" or "jazzy" but this kind of music has a very strong narrative with a sense of longing

@@cheapenstein he might have fallen a bit behind the times. Analog synthesizers are in but last I heard a Yanni album he was recording with digital keyboards. Nowadays composers rather use a lot of sound design and sample libraries together with authentic orchestras. Maybe if Yanni collaborated with some modern producer or wrote the soundtrack for his band the results could be great. On a related note, it's been quite a while since Vangelis wrote a soundtrack too?

Life can get messy - hard to understand. I remember when my father came home from the CD shop with this album; I was 11. It brought me peace in a way I truly didn't grasp it until 17 - and fully grasp until my late 30s. When people tell you life gets hard, believe them. But remember - try to remember the beauty, the moments that brought you peace. This album, this artist brings me peace. I wish I had channeled this earlier in my 30s and not later. But nevertheless - peace can be found at any age. We needn't judge. We needn't look at someone else's timeline and say they strayed. We all take a different path. The river twists and turns for us all at any given point. Who are we to judge its direction, its current? LOVE THIS album.

One of my favorites. I'd like to think of this collection as a positive note . Started listening to her in my mid twenties back in the early eighties. However its always been front and center through all of life's sorrows especially now in my mid sixties, time passes quick. The music is serious and heartfelt. It conjures up so many difficult times in my past and is present in my current ones. Mainly loss of a family or friend. When you get to my age it seems to be ever present. That being said it has gotten me through all of it. I told my wife I want her music played at my funeral. Thats how important it has been to me all these years.
