smoke machine on full ...check, stroble light on full....check, acid dropped....check, eon the spice playing on full blast....check, right let's go then
Around Xmas 2001, my good friend Iain Coxhall, Bibby and myself organised a FLASHBACK event at Bradfords Planet Venus night club, featuring an old-school deejay set by Ian Loveday AKA U.K. rave pioneer EON (22 September 1954 - 17 June 2009) Although there was only a small gathering of people present, it was a magical night and everyone there was totally in awe of having one of their musical heroes entertain them with a top notch set. In my role as sound engineer on the night, after setting up the sound system, I asked EON if there was anything else he needed. He looked up from his record box and said “I wouldn’t mind a Jack Daniels”😅 I obviously didn’t mind, but uncle Bibby wasn’t going to let a drink get served without it being paid for so it came out of my own pocket… Sadly, I am the only one out of the four of us who is still alive, may they all rest in peace💚 As a member both the stereo jazz crew and beat frequency crew on bradfords PCR radio, I remember playing this record to death on air and at the Capricorn club in the early days
I was 21 when I first ever heard EON- Spice.... and I was hookded, It was 1991 in a little dark underground club called Y NOT in Wichita, Ks played by Sabina and Racine, baddest dj bitches ever... I'm 43 now and I listen to it allllll the time... still feel 21... fkn love this shit... had to go to Denver Colorado to by my first Album...good times...
My brother used to bump this song in his 1990's Mitsubishi Eclipse. To this day I could feel the bass rattling my teenage brain like crazy. Good Times.
Eon was in Eugene Oregon back in the 80s before he had his setup, we met a few times to discuss music theory and ESP based ideas. I was listed as Jade westone on the cassette cover that I designed. Man, wish I had gone back to his country and stayed the course. You snooze, you loose!
One of the biggest funk carioca songs from the 2000s, called "O Baile Todo" samples this song. And pretty much EVERY SINGLE BRAZILIAN from 2001 onwards knows it by heart and feels nostalgic hearing the beginning of this song
ain't that many animals besides the occasional human that can time travel... but i have a black cat on par with your doggy. thanks for your share hector. we'll see y'all in the next dimension ;-) xoxo
Channel 4 showed a David lynch film one night. Then on a pirate station not long after I heard the most amazing use of my favourite ever ever human league track. The guy who made this music was a genius. Love u Chico & Rosita xx 🧑🎤
Steve Jackson, in The Crypt Brixton (a small church basement in the middle of a London park), one strobe, lots of bass and a fuzzy head. The future was there then. So it was.
I've always loved the edits on this tune. Cutting up all over the gaff. I've always loved this tune. Real old school electro influence on this. 1990 was an epic year. This was out from late summer of that year, well the White label pressing was anyway. The raves erupted when this was played and so did the pirate radio stations' airwaves and pagers! Epic tune.
I just went To buy some drugs in kensal green cemetery, and.came across eons grave and looked him up, hence why now listening to this! Haha! Banging! I love techno but was born in 87 so only joined the scene in the early 2000's, so please forgive my ignorance, but given he created a track like this, I imagine he'd approve of how I came across it....
It's 1990 and I'm in a dark bar and I don't remember with people I can't recall but this song....I remember! But Dune '84 is on RETRO channel right now.
🚥🕺🎵💃🚥original 1984 Dune - is on film 4 UK once again the original in which the sample comes fourth from 🚦💃🎵🕺🚦" HE WHO CONTROLS THE SPICE CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE & THE SPICE MUST FLOW 🚥🕺🎵💃🚥
Such a great tune this. I owned it on vinyl back then alongside 'Basketcase'. 3:11 is still to this day the sweetspot for me. Alongside the Human Leagues Love Action synth riff, I'd love to know what other samples he used for that part..especially the background at 3:26 underneath the drum track. Sampling Doctor Who's Sutekh Time Tunnel from "Pyramids of Mars" ep is clever. The Tom Baker days! Can't wait for the new DUNE to be released in late 2021. The Spice...must...flow!
lyrics are from this clip - Dune (1984) “He who controls the spice controls the universe - at 2.46 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hEsIXIwrNbo.html
@@zyxbotcba I WISH I NEW BUT I DONT, still a bad ass tune to this day, so many top tunes around this time, always reminds me of the best dj around for me, dj stu allan, sadly he past away late last year, cancer. he will always be my hero no matter what.
Does anyone know what is up with EON's catalog on streaming services? Spotify has an entry for EON with a pic of Ian Loveday on it, but most or all of the tracks that come up are either some other artist with the same name or they are tracks that might be him, but were released after his death. "The Void Dweller" is entirely absent. That's his most famous album, right? It's the only one I had access to in the early nineties.
