Great review, thx! You all should give Dead Reckoning (also a pirate sandbox game) another try with Joey making sure everyone can enjoy by explaining the correct rules. Maybe even with the first saga in it to get that story experience.

Nice review. About the luck Dependance of some factions (like the yellow one with all their dice throwing): After the first game I thought the same than you, but there is much more in there - hidden to explore with each game. At first I thought they are the weakest, but they could be so rich (with or without the dice) and though get a big boost later in the game.

Absolutely with Tom on this one with the retail edition being almost unplayable. Dampered my first play so much I haven't had any incentive to pick it up again since and the fun aspect was honestly not high enough to warrant the investment of getting the upgraded pieces. Soo.. yeah this one was a stinker, sadly

You should try Arborea! Worker placement like Tzolkin (but less brain burning) and incredible ressource pool management !!!

Given the issues Zee an Tom had with this game, I'm quite surprised they still gave a 7 and 7.5. When I have such complaints towards a game, I'd probably rate it no better than a 5, maybe 6.
