@62jape an eotech is a holographic sight and it has not fixed eye relief. In fact it has infinite eye relief. It's not a prism. It's a red dot that uses lazers instead of an led. Which is why the other comments mention the tech not being there yet. Lazer emitters eat batteries for lunch.
@dgd947a15fl
@dgd947a15fl 2 года назад
The problem is that true holographics, like the OG EOTech XPS line, use a laser to project the reticle, while traditional red dots like Aimpoints and Holosuns use an LED. The laser on the holographic requires a far greater power draw than an LED, more than a coin-style battery or even AA's can provide, hence why the EOTech uses a CR123. The parts needed for the laser are bulkier than what you need for an LED. Making a true laser-based holographic that's slightly smaller than an XPS is actually exceptionally difficult, let alone one small enough to put on a pistol. They'll come out with a donut-and-dot reticle at some point. Probably also an enclosed emitter some time after that. But a true laser-based holographic sight that's anywhere near small enough for handguns is still at least decades away, I think.

I feel like the industry far more favors the Trijicon RMR footprint and it’s a letdown to see that this doesn’t use that footprint but I get it, it’s one of your main competitors. That simple fact will be the reason I won’t be buying one of these unless it out-features a Holosun or is more durable and has a comparable battery life to an RMR.

@@CB-ux5xc while I don’t like supporting the Chinese their products have proven themselves not only with incredible torture tests that have crushed many of their more pricey US competitors but they have a much wider array of features rather than just riding on the laurels of their fame from some bought-off military contract from 20 years ago. I’m not gonna lie, I love EOTECHS but oh their battery life sucks comparatively, their glass isn’t super crisp and they had that huge thermal zero shift drama a few years ago and most of their products have made extremely small changes to their designs over the years with very few new features added and the prices staying relatively the same or increasing.Trijicon is outdated, overweight and clunky with their scopes the RMR is decent but has a small window with a blue tint and a lot of distortion as compared to some other reflex sights and the MRO was a flop, Leupold is ok but not a durable, lacks features, is overpriced and has a proprietary footprint. Vortex, well US company with a good warranty but nothing special and the products are imports too. Aimpoint and Zeiss are golden children of the optics world and TBH I’m own several Aimpoints and while the quality and construction are there they too haven’t added many features they’ve just made optics smaller and they are both imports. Elcans have nice glass and are durable and I have one of them too but they are extremely heavy and expensive and oh wait, also imports. You do what you want but for me with some things it’s more important that you get a good product with the features that you want than to just buy American when they are overpriced and not being competitive. Im just curious, and please be honest. Where was your phone made? Where was your car made? (And if it’s a USA Mfg. have you have you ever looked in the door jamb to see where the components where really made?) Computer? Clothes you’re wearing right now? I try to buy American whenever possible especially if the company is actually producing goods here but I can’t in good conscience support them on that alone. They need to bring something else to the table like innovation or cost savings, or a damn good warranty (which means less to me on something that I may have to rely on to defend my life with).

First off, for all the people complaining about the battery life as compared to other reflex sights. This optic will probably have a coating that works well passively with NV if I had to guess. So to offset the usefulness of a more reflective coating you have add more power which causes the battery life to go down. I’ll take that over having less light transmission through the glass which causes colors to wash out (especially at distance) and also cause reduced NV performance when aiming passively.
@merlin704

For everyone complaining about how it's not some amazing breakthrough, or uses the DPP footprint, or it's not a holosight with a "Donut of Death"... they list it on their website as an MSRP of $389. This is meant to compete against the DeltaPoint Pro and Sig Romeo1 Pro. Eotech wants those sweet, sweet military contracts, and other militaries are moving to the M17/M18/P320 besides the US. Not to mention a considerable number of LE agencies. So if it's more durable than either the DPP or R1P, it's going to kill it in sales to the Sig crowd (like me). Additionally, the Glock MOS offers a factory plate for the DPP footprint... so if it can at least somewhat compete with the RMR in durability, it presents a viable duty optic for some in the Glock crowd. And with the Eotech throwing their weight behind the DPP footprint, if this optic proves not to suck, you'll see more aftermarket slide options for it. If it survives Aaron Cowan and folks like him... this thing is going to be a bigger hit than folks realize.

Finally someone gets it. For the people shouting it needs shake awake, that’s a civilian minded convenience feature and not for the people who will be carrying daily. If you’re walking around or driving in the car, the dot is already on. It’s easier to track the hours on a battery if it’s always on and then change it out yearly. A key point to the 20,000 hours is at what setting? If it’s 6 or 7, that’s actually good run time. What i’m looking to see in person is will the dot be clear, and will the glass have any fish bowling like the RMR and Holosun’s do?
