Very common for the 10v caps to go short in these radios done quite a few of them over the years I tend to swap out the 10v ones in uniden boarded rigs as a preventative measure Strange how it’s always the 10v ones though

It went short in front of my eyes , i just missed it on camera , it just died.

Surely the rp diode didn't do its job if the inductors got roasted!!

Normally they do ,but when people remove the 2 amp fuse and either put tinfoil around it or just link it out , then things get hot.

How was the power output? I just had one in my workshop, it had been modded to 80 channels, high power was 0.5 watt, low power 0.25 watt, the tuning just could not spread over 80 channels. Ken.

I would say you have a issue there , i got at least 4 watts across , it certainly was not low like that.

I have a 341, getting some great copy’s on it. Cleared the garage out & found it in a bag with a mag mount & siro. Only downside is, it has a lazy needle. How could i sort this out. Many thanks.

Depends what you call lazy , i have noticed that some of these radios the needle's are actually sticking due to age and lubricant failing, which requires a strip down and lubrication , if that works just fine then it maybe as simple as the front end needing checking and adjusting.

Uniden radios the meters are known to be less active than there cybernet counterparts One cure on the SSB chassis is to replace the silicon diode that feeds the meter with a germanium one and recalibrate Perhaps this can be done with a FM set to get the desired result
