Ep.13: How to Sing Better? Don’t Fight Your Resonance!
How to sing better? Don’t fight your resonance in your body as you sing! As you sing higher have you ever felt like your voice was just jamming up tighter and tighter? Or ladies, as you sing lower, have you ever felt like your voice almost completely disappears? These are problems related to resonance moving in your body.
Inside this video I’ll show you how to sing better today by not fighting the resonance.

its nice, addressing the tone to head , chest, neck , diapraghm, but the hardest is to accept your own original voice as it is good or bad to hear

Exactly the same. For years I "wanted" to sound like Elvis (and I could get really close by intentionaly lowering the larynx). Once my.vocal coach told me "it is very nice, but now, let's do it in your own voice", and I was like - what?! In time I started to notice "metal" (as he would call it) in my voice ( esp. after lip/tongue trills), or singer formants (as some other call it). It took time for me to accept how.really my voice sounds (when properly awakened), and last months I am grown found of it. Totaly different from what I dreamt of, but in the process I am also starting to find that "bottom end" by breath/diaphragm management and nasal/mask resonances What a journey 😁

This is what I've been doing for years. I have finally felt some success with letting the shift happen when I've been doing the 1 1/2 scales. I think because I don't have time to think about it. Making it happen in a song is totally different because it's easy to fall into old habits.

Hi Chuck, do you have any advice on how to sing soft? Now that I've learned to sing high and loud I'm having trouble singing soft. The sound disappears when I have to get softer the last note of a song. Help!
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 8 лет назад
+Everard Huggan Hi Everard: I need to do a video someday on this topic, because it's a great question. Until I make the video, I recommend watching www.powertosing.com/pulled-chest-high-larynx-2/ On the 1 1/2 scale, do the "dopey gee" exercise quietly. Be careful not to break. Once you can do this quietly and in a relaxed fashion without breaking, do it the 1 1/2 scale using the 'No" or "Mum" softly. Then try a song but instead of the words, put in No or Mum softly. When that works well, try it with the words. Let me know if this helps.

I'm a guy but I have the problem you said some women have that the lower register disapears. What should I do?
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 7 лет назад
There may be several reasons. Two possible reasons is the larynx is high or the vocal cords are not coming together firmly. You may want to take the vocal test here: www.powertosing.com/

Hello i have a question ,when u r able to hit a high note w lip bubble does it mean that u r able to hit it on the actual singing process?
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 4 года назад
No....only if you stay as relaxed with the larynx down when you sing...then you should be able to...yes!

When I practiced Bubble Lips, I flipped into Falsetto more easily, otherwise I will squeeze my throat again. Is that normal? How to overcome?
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 7 лет назад
Hi Kaname: If you break into falsetto on bubble lips, you might try it with the "goo" and allow it to get hooty or hollow as you go higher.

@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 8 лет назад
First step is to take the powertest at www.PowerToSing.com and find out your vocal type. Then watch the videos in the knowledge center about your vocal type. There are exercises there for your voice that will help eliminate a nasal voice, which is usually caused by the larynx moving upward.

Honestly I don't understand the big deal about bubble lips... I keep trying it, singing quietly enough to get a smooth transition, then when I stop on a d4-f4 and try to sing it it's almost like a whisper, with no life to the sound. I try to make it louder but it just cracks and then I'm on a g3 or something making a horrible sound.

@@PowerToSingHi Chuck thanks for replying. I'm a young 18 but I know someone over a year younger than me that has a range of C2 - A4+ without falsetto who has had no vocal training and now I want to know how to do it since I've been singing for 10 years. Thanks again
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 5 лет назад
@@matt-dw Some people are born with the ability to do what you described in your acquaintance. For the rest of us mere mortals, we must work at it a while before we can do it. In the case of C2....it might not ever come....depending your your genetics. For example, my teacher, Seth Riggs, could vocalize up to C6...but not any lower than around G3. The reason I asked your age is often teen young men crack doing bubble lips as they go through the bridge. You can try bending at the waist about 90 degrees and look at the floor as you do bubble lips. If you can do tongue trill that's another way to try also. Both BL and TT are excellent in helping the voice find a balance between air and vocal cords and keeping the larynx down while allowing the vocal cords to adjust from chest to head voice. But your age can be extremely challenging because your voice is still changing. Good breathing will also help: this video may be helpful: www.powertosing.com/ep-15-how-to-sing-breath-with-diaphragm/

@@PowerToSing I understand, thanks for the lengthy and detailed response. It has been insightful and helpful. I actually have little trouble with C2 🤩! I have what most describe as a very heavy and resonant voice, I'm now just exploring what else my voice can do. Thanks again, it's nice to have a knowledgeable teacher respond so quickly! 👍

+soh1006 Hi Soh: This is a challenging thing. You need ear training. This means you must train your ear to hear the pitch and the vocal cords to match the pitch you are hearing. I suggest going online and finding a good ear training course. It will help you develop your ability to hear the intervals from note to note. If you have a piano, or a keyboard it is helpful to play a note and try and match the pitch with your voice. It also helps to take an instrument such as piano, violin or clarinet. This helps develop your ear for pitch. Also, if you are on pitch on the low notes but go off pitch as you sing higher, it may not be a pitch problem at all. It may be you are going flat as you get close to the bridge in your voice. This corrects itself as you learn to get through the bridge and into your head voice.

+Power To Sing Hi,Soh here.I realised that when I sing,I always get distracted by the vocal of the singer and the song.My voice will try to follow the song and the vocal,causing me to go off tune.Is there any specific solution to solve this problem.Thanks.
@PowerToSing
@PowerToSing 8 лет назад
+soh1006 You might try listening to a line, pause the recording, sing it back by yourself without the music. Record yourself and see if it's better. Do this for the whole song. Also, if you can find a song that has a karaoke track without backup singers and sing the song with just the music and no other singers.
